After completing the mission, the contents of the book in Zhao Yao’s brain changed:
Book: Lv1(20/100)
Pet(1/1): Matcha
Grade: Lv2 (9/100)
Loyalty: 100
Ability: Timefreeze, ability duration 6 seconds, cooldown time 6 seconds
Book gained an extra 20 experience points due to the completion of the mission. Matcha also had nine experience points because of the superior food over this period.
However, just as he completed the mission of moving, another new mission surfaced.
Mission: New supercat
Objective: A good environment and luxury food is only a small step towards getting stronger. This world has countless of supercats awaiting your capture. Capture a supercat by midnight next week. (0/1)
Mission Reward: 30 experience points
Mission Failure: Deduction of 20 experience points and unable to gain any experience points for the next six months
Seeing the mission in front of him, Zhao Yao understood that this was a mission he could not resist. What surprised him the most, however, was the message that came under the objective.
“Matcha is not the only supercat in this world?” Zhao Yao’s face was full of astonishment. He always thought that Matcha was the only special cat in the world, but it seemed like he was completely wrong.
Zhao Yao thought immediately, “Then other people; some might be like me. Some might possess this book, to complement the abilities of supercats?”
At this moment, he naturally did not know how many people enjoyed and made use of these abilities. However, the possession of the book ability belonged solely to him.
Zhao Yao sat on the sofa and organized his thoughts.
“There might be other supercats, but with my years of experience with games and comics, having the ability to freeze time, out of all other abilities, must be the best ability of all.”
“So it seems like I’ll have a huge advantage against most of the supercats out there.”
With that thought lingering at the back of his head, Zhao Yao finally calmed himself down.
“Just one week to catch a supercat, this time is too short. Jiangmen city is so huge, how do I find a supercat?”
After thinking for a moment, Zhao Yao had some ideas in his head.
“Once supercats becomes intelligible, they’ll be speaking innocently like kids initially. They might, because of this, cause some commotion in where they are.”
Thinking of this, Zhao Yao understood how he could find them.
“Look up on some online discussion forums, and see if there are any weird occurrences lately.”
“Also, catching a supercat. It might come to a battle; I’d better bring some weapons?”
After thinking through what potential weapons he had, it was impossible for him to get a gun in China. So all he thought of, after thinking hard, was a small knife, much like a dagger. Something that he could easily hide and used with ease.
Anyway, once he stopped time, any weapon he used could have a devastating effect. It was then all the more important to hide the weapon.
Hence Zhao Yao went onto TaoBao searching for a dagger. Not knowing much about weapons, he searched by price and bought two small knives which cost about 3000RMB.
Pondering further, Zhao Yao also searched for some heavy duty nylon rope.
After all, knives and similar weapons would cause too much harm. Without much experience, he could accidentally kill whoever he was up against. So Zhao Yao decided to buy a coil of rope, such that he could tie whoever he was up against after freezing time.
He asked the TaoBao seller if the rope could withstand pulls and struggles. Although he wasn’t sure of its durability, it should be enough to tie and hold someone in place.
Then, to defend himself against the attacks of supercats, such as bites or scratches, Zhao Yao purchased a set of cut-resistant latex suit. Although he did not know how effective it was against supercats, Zhao Yao thought that it would at least be better than wearing a normal set of clothes.
After completing all this, Zhao Yao couldn’t think of anything else he missed out, and he went on to search for weird occurrences in Jiangmen city online.
...
Five days later, in Jiangmen city, outside a mansion in the town area, a group of four youngsters had their phones up and were pointing their cameras at this residential area.
One of the girls looked exceptionally charming. Despite wearing just a white t-shirt and jeans, her beauty still managed to shine through it. Especially the swell in her chest, which was significantly attractive.
The young girl was called Jin Jia Jia, a year two student at Jiangmen City Drama Academy. Frequently seen on gaming streams doing announcements and commentary, she was gaining popularity for a quick buck.
After all, being in the Drama Academy, she was influenced by others into wearing branded wear, makeup, and skin care accessories.
Jin Jia Jia was unwilling to accept help from strangers, preferring to succeed through her ability and sheer hard work.
And today she was with her three friends, exploring this so-called haunted house.
Jin Jia Jia then excitedly spoke to her phone’s live transmission, “Everyone, today we are here at this building, and apparently it was specially designed by a French businessman with more than 80 years of historical significance.”
While speaking, Jin Jia Jia pulled out a photograph. On the photograph was a speck of white shadow floating along the grey walls of the mansion.
“A week ago, nearby residents caught this image at night. Our purpose today is to find out what exactly is in this image.”
After a lengthy introduction, the live stream continued to attract an increasing number of people.
Although Jin Jia Jia was extremely aesthetically appealing, because of her relatively new forage into live streams, she usually had about 10000 people following her streams.
Meanwhile, the title <<The Exploration of Jiangmen City’s Haunted House>> continued to attract hordes of people and it was 20000 and counting. Seeing so many hits, Jin Jia Jia revealed a charming smile on her face.
With Jin Jia Jia’s photo as well as her description, together with the background of her stream, a dark and sinister background, the numbers on her stream continued to increase uncontrollably.
Seeing that her views had exceeded 20000, she felt that the commotion and attention were sufficient. Jin Jia Jia introduced her three friends alongside her, two of which were her old friends, a guy, and a girl. Beside her, they looked boringly ordinary.
The last guy in her group, however, looked rather suave. He donned branded casual wear, and he was the owner of this house, Xiao Ming.
Seeing the lens directed at him, Xiao Ming smiled and waved, “Hi everyone, I’m the owner of the house, Xiao Ming.”
“Wow, does the tycoon need leg hair?”
“Worship the tycoon.”
“Have a lunch meeting with the mayor, can only let my son show everyone the house.”
“Wow the mansions here, they must cost at least 100 million.”
Seeing the forum explode with all sorts of comments, Xiao Ming’s lips curled into a slight smile. Coming from a wealthy family, he had absolutely no interest in being an online celebrity.
The sole reason for his willingness to show everyone his house today was to impress Jin Jia Jia.
As to this beautiful young woman with a body to kill for, he had an intense feeling in his heart ever since the first time he saw her.
However, after a conversation, he knew that Jin Jia Jia wasn’t like any of the other girls he used to spend time with. Those girls could be easily manipulated with money and would do anything for his money. This gradual relationship with Jin Jia Jia gave a weird sense of accomplishment to Xiao Ming, making him feel good about himself.
After the introduction, the group of them walked towards the mansion.
As the mansion’s renovation stopped halfway, there was dirt, soil, metal and bricks all over the place.
Also, there was no electricity, and the entire place was pitch-black, giving off an ominous and sinister vibe.
Jin Jia Jia switched her torchlight on and walked towards the interior of the mansion.
The group of four explored the garden, bumped into a few rats, but did not see anything out of the ordinary.
After some time, the group of four entered the main building.
Once they entered the first floor of the mansion, they saw a patch of white shadow flashing past them. Screaming, her female friend ran out of the mansion.
The remaining three people did not have time to react, and Jin Jia Jia’s torchlight pointed at a dark patch.
Jin Jia Jia was evidently taken aback, and asked cautiously, “Who are you?”
There was no reply, and the body, who was under the light of her torchlight, disappeared in front of everyone’s eyes at the very next instant.
Her male friend and Xiao Ming had a back full of cold sweat. It was at this moment when a scream came from the second floor. The forum erupted, with all sorts of disbelief and exclaims.
Her male friend couldn’t withstand it anymore, and like his girlfriend ran out of the mansion in fear.
Xiao Ming felt his heartbeat stabilize, thinking of comforting Jin Jia Jia, who he was alone with. However, he noticed that her gaze was fixated on the second floor.
“Gogogo, let’s go up quick, don’t let him escape.”
Seeing Jin Jia Jia’s determined disposition, Xiao Ming could only follow unwillingly behind Jin Jia Jia, as he had no other choice.
The two of them climbed up the stairs cautiously, but just as they went onto the stairs, they noticed a blurry black shadow nearby, and it looked like the silhouette of a person. However, above its shoulder, it seemed like there were two shadows of heads as if it was a two-headed person.
