Actually, Sung-Jin was the first one to change his approach. He noticed that the stagnation in the fight was starting to annoy the audience, so he decided to show them a different attack.
He raised his hand, and four orbs of swirling fire appeared around him, then they started shooting afire arrows,w which went after John, smashing into the ground and exploding one by one. The violent sound shook the arena, but this attack was pointless, as my daughter's boyfriend was too fast to get hit by something like that.
I knew that John had a good response to the situation, even with the barrier around Sung-Jin, the problem was, that he needed a little bit more time, to use that move, and he didn't have it. He came up with a good plan to earn it, though, he closed the distance, rushing around the 'prince', which brought the explosions closer to him.
That wasn't big of a deal, though, since the flames couldn't go through the barrier, so all they did was lick it briefly before disappearing in the air. It was a slightly different case with the sand, as each explosion sprayed it a bit around, and the little bit was enough for Sung-Jin to decide to stop his attack, as he was risking blinding himself if even a little bit of the sand got into his eye.
This was a window John was looking for, a change in tactic. He attacked, by swinging widely. For his opponent, it looked like a legitimate try, but I was able to see through that feint. The prince responded by throwing one of the orbs directly at the enemy, which exploded, covering everything in flames. Just as John predicted. He turned the fake attack into a tumble, to escape further to the side, and then jammed his halberd into the ground.
The dragon surrounding his body escaped through the weapon and vanished into the soil, then the warrior escaped, by jumping away. Just at the correct moment, sign the flames disappeared, and Sung-Jin regained a vision of his opponent.
His face showed that he was a little bit annoyed. The action came right after the disposal of the emotion. The fire arrows, although slightly fewer of them, again went after John. He escaped by running away, circling around the mage.
The fact that Sung-Jin didn't realize the red spirit surrounding my daughter's boyfriend's body was missing, brought a smile to my face. Just when the mysterious creature exploded from the ground, causing an eruption of sand. It was a massive dragon's head. The mouth wrapped itself around the protective bubble, and the teeth sunk deeply into the barrier, piercing through it, and causing cracks to slowly spread. Soon they covered the whole thing like a spiderweb.
I have to compliment the mister fire mage at that moment, as he didn't lose his cool. He reacted properly shooting himself into the air with an eruption of flames straight from under his feet, escaping just as the barrier shattered, and the toothy maw closed.
It looked like the dragon puked the fire, before swallowing it, then he disappeared, just to show himself again around John, who was already running to catch Sung-Jin before he was able to land. Unfortunately, the fir damage spotted him, then sent the remaining orbs which exploded, shaking the arena and cutting the warrior off. He had to stop, allowing the projectiles hit the ground, then erupt with flames.
Going around them is pointless. It was better to actually gain some distance and prepare for another attack, which he did, heading for the opposite end of the arena.
- What an exchange, Bruce! Did you see what I saw?!
- Yes, Matthew! It was hard not to look. Such a display of skills! Both of those guys know to fight, and how to entertain! Ohh my god! And to think this is just the first match of the entire tournament!
- Yes! We have truly been blessed with amazing entertainment!
I briefly again focused on the commentators, since the fight was paused by the gladiators. They were clearly sweetening things up. Back in Egypt, the fights were better, but to give the two fighters some slack, they both definitely weren't showing everything they got. Sung-Jin, despite the troublesome situation still looked confident, and John. Well, his face was showing worry, but I knew his skills. He still had few moves to show.
The prince started spinning his cane, and it took on fire, which became a portal for a western type of dragon which erupted from the circle swimming through the air and roaring with the crackling sound of fire, heading straight towards Joseph's son.
I briefly looked at Tihana. She was biting a pillow while sitting on the couch, with her eyes glued to the TV screen. It looked quite adorable.
Meanwhile, John focused on presenting the weapon ahead of himself, then he raised it, and the spirit got sucked straight up to the blade. He brought the halberd down in a single powerful swing, sending his dragon ahead of the fire one. They clashed, and the cloud of flame briefly consumed everything. The orange light was all the cameras were able to see. It disappeared soon going up, before vanishing.
What was left were two fighters on the opposite sides of the arena, both panting heavily, with a pool of glass quickly hardening in between them. On the edges were those slowly collapsing spikes, which eventually stopped, leaving a weird structure around the epicenter.
Meanwhile, the red spirit returned to John, enveloping him once again, but it was visibly smaller.
Sung-Jin also didn't look so happy with the outcome. He clearly hoped to at least hit his opponent with the powerful attack, and yet he missed, but I didn't notice any indication of him running out of mana, so his situation wasn't that terrible.
- Just as we passed them for the previous exchange they are showing us this! Oh my god!
- Yes, Matthew! They both are top-grade hunters, and they are proving it every couple of seconds in this arena! What is how!
I glanced at Tihana nonce again, as those guys were saying that. She seemed worried.
- Relax. He still has plenty to show - I calmed her down.
She didn't even react. Her whole attention was focused on the TV screen.
