What Tang Shaoyang was interested in was information, not any items. He wanted to know what kingdom he was in and what his current situation was. Lady Akhor or whoever she was, would eventually tell him the situation, but he would like to hear the information from a different source with a different perspective. He wanted to know if this war was related to Giant or Orc as well, and the best way to find information was a tavern.
The servant and he went to the tavern, not the most crowded one. A tavern with a good number of visitors that left two or three tables empty. However, it was a bad idea to bring a servant to the tavern, especially at midday. It did not take long before a group of four drunkards came over, trying to take the maid with them.
“Brother! How about you share her with us? As long as you share her with us, you will be safe in this town even if a war breaks out,” The man said with a laugh.
Tang Shaoyang was contemplating what he should do with these drunkards, but he quickly found out that the servant remained calm even though she was approached by the four drunkards. It did not take long for him to realize that the servant was not just an ordinary servant.
The servant never looked toward the drunkards, staying closely behind him just like a servant did. She did not even acknowledge them, or everyone else in the tavern.
One of the drunkards got closer and tried to grab the servant’s wrist, but he easily slapped the hand away. The drunkard lost his balance and fell to the side.
“YOU DARE!” His friends went into a frenzy, pulling their swords out and pointing at Tang Shaoyang, “DO YOU KNOW WHO WE ARE?”
Tang Shaoyang stood up, and shrugged, “I don’t know. Do you know who I am?”
It seemed like the drunkards were at a loss, not expecting such a response from Tang Shaoyang.
“I already got what I want, let’s leave,” Tang Shaoyang spoke to the servant who responded with a nod.
Of course, the drunkards would not let him leave, blocking his path. The one person who fell also got up, taking out his sword against Tang Shaoyang. They totally ignored the servant, thinking they would get the servant once they got rid of him.
“Do you think you will get away after hurting one of the Wicked Blades?” The least drunk among the four questioned Tang Shaoyang with a sneer, “If you want to keep your life, you should sever your right hand!”
The people in the tavern gasped in surprise. It seemed like the Wicked Blades was quite famous around here, but it still meant nothing to him.
“Do you know anything about these Wicked Blades?” Tang Shaoyang asked the servant.
“They are notorious mercenaries, but people still hire them despite their notoriety because they are quite capable of doing their job. They are hired because of the impending invasion by the Giant and Orcs,” Erna explained without stuttering, showing no fear or concern even though the notorious mercenary was about to snatch her away.
“It’s too late to back down now,” One of the drunkards appeared to be smug, thinking the person he confronted would cower in the name of Wicked Blades.
Tang Shaoyang came closer to Erna and whispered, “What should I do now? If I beat them up or even kill them, the rest will come for me, and I eventually have to kill all of them. But the city will lose one of the mercenary teams.”
Erna let out a sigh and muttered, “I am not paid for this…” She turned toward the drunkards, “You should leave us alone, he is Lady Akhor’s guest. If anything happens to him, you will anger Lady Akhor.”
“BWAHAHAHAHAHA…” The drunkard that just got up after falling, laughed so hard, “Do you think we would be scared when you bring a random name? We are Wicked Blades, we fear no one!”
Anything else the four drunkards did or what they intended to do, did not anger her, but that statement triggered the servant. Erna turned around, facing the drunkard. She was furious, her dull eyes turned sharp, and she approached the drunkard.
She punched the man’s lip, and no one expected it, even Tang Shaoyang, “You better never spout her name with your mouth ever again!”
“YOU…” The drunkard was stunt-locked, not expecting to be punched by the maid, “THIS BITCH DARE TO HIT ME!?” His eyes gleamed maliciously as he raised his sword, and hacked it down toward Erna.
Tang Shaoyang tried to interfere, but he realized that he was not needed. Erna did not dodge the sword, she caught the sword with her bare hand. People expected her palm would be sliced, but no, she stopped the sword and the sword could not even cut open her skin.
Erna pulled the drunkard closer toward her and kicked him in the groin. The drunkard’s eyes widened, sobered up from her drunken state. He clutched his ground as he fell down on the floor, wailing in pain as tears swelled up from his eyes.
Erna did not stop there, he kicked the man’s face. Three teeth flew off from his mouth, showing the kick was not a joke.
“Random name? She is the one who hired your team. She is the one who paid you to be here. She is also the reason you are not rotting in the dungeon. A random name? You have the nerve to say that about Lady Akhor?”
The servant kept kicking the drunkard, on the face, on the chest, and on the belly. People were in shock, not expecting such a reaction from the servant. The image of a powerless servant immediately disappeared from everyone’s mind. This servant was savage, but she did not end up killing the man.
Erna also realized that she might be going overboard and stopped. Her chest heaved up and down in anger, but she slowly calmed down as the anger inside her subsided. Within less than ten seconds, her expression returned to expressionlessness. She turned toward the remaining drunkards.
“What are you doing? Grab that bumbling fool away from here and don’t show your faces in front of me again, understand?”
The three drunkards sobered up when they saw their friends being beaten savagely in front of them. They knew who Lady Akhor was. No one in this town did not know her name. The three nodded and picked up their friend before leaving the tavern as fast as they could.
“The vibe is ruined, let’s leave,” Tang Shaoyang knew he could no longer gather information here after the spectacle.
These people would talk about them instead of talking about the current situation or the invasion. Nevertheless, he got a basic understanding of what happened in this town as he sent out his spirits to gather information as well.
Tang Shaoyang decided to compile the information in his head while strolling around the town.
He was in the Swindmore town, one of many towns in The Arkala Kingdom. Swindmore was known as a fort town where one of the Arkala Kingdom’s main forces was stationed. The town was directly bordered by the human’s arch-nemesis, The Orc and The Giant.
The situation was different because of something unprecedented, the coalition between the Orc and The Giant. The seven tribes of Orcs and the three tribes of Giant that directly bordered Swindmore town formed a coalition to take over the town.
The town never faced something like this, it never happened before. The Giant and The Orc would go at each other just like how they would kill them on sight. This was what sparked the crisis, and the city ended up conscripting the town people, anyone above eighteen and also hired any mercenary bands regardless of their reputation.
The town even used the criminals to fight off the invasion, and they also sent more criminals from the other towns to be sent here. While the city tried to be secretive by using the criminals as soldiers, people in the town already knew about it, and they accepted it despite the risk.
Of course, he also looked for information for the key figures in the town. There are five key figures in this town, the five figures that would command the army to fight off the invasion. He met one of them, Zelie Linden Akhor.
He guessed Lady Akhor was a high-ranking noble or even royalty, and he was spot on. Zelie Linden Akhor was the fourth princess. As to why a princess would be here, everyone seemed to know the reason. It was to avoid a political marriage, that the fourth princess decided to stay in this place to fight The Giant and The Orc instead of marrying the infamous womanizer, the third son of Archduke Devereux.
Since then, Lady Akhor had been defending the town from The Giant and The Orc’s invasion for a decade. She was loved by the town as she became a model figure for children in the city, and some families worshiped her. The reason was that The Orc and The Giant never succeeded in breaching into the town ever since she took over the command.
Tang Shaoyang halted his steps and paused his thoughts as a group, a big group blocking him. Then part of the group surrounded them from all directions. It did not take long for him to figure out who these people were. He found the mercenary beaten by Erna earlier along with the other three, but it was different this time. They were carried over, and these people put the four lifeless bodies in front of him and Erna.
Tang Shaoyang’s eyes locked on the figure with a fancy outfit. He met with the second key figure, the commander of all mercenary bands for this war, Edelmir.
