The third spirit mountain formed much more slowly.

More and more cultivators were falling out of the formation and engaging with the attacking ghosts. But the combination attack from the ghosts stubbornly continued against the spirit mountain.

This made it difficult for the spirit mountain to form, and this weakened it somewhat. Still, it persisted, continuing to grow in size.

As that spirit mountain slowly but unstoppably grew, Nether Emperor Zoros began to panic.

He frantically called out, “Stop that mountain!”

He didn’t panic because of death.

The Nether Domain was death, and ghosts had never feared it!

He panicked because he could already see what the enemy was after. They were trying to destroy the formation.

The Nine Bends Yellow Springs Formation was laid down beneath Heaven City, with the city above serving as a solid barrier.

The first spirit mountain’s target had been the ghosts, the strike on the palace exterminating numerous high-tier Ghost Kings. The second had seemingly been aimed at the ghosts, but its actual target was the city. The first and second strikes had a shared region in the range of their attacks, and this region had sustained severe damage that almost totally destroyed its surface defenses.

If the third spirit mountain were allowed to fall, it would undoubtedly strike that area and go straight through. The terrifying blast of energy was bound to damage the formation and ruin all of his plans.

Zoros would never let this happen!

Thus, he had to stop the spirit mountain from falling at all costs.

The black eyes on the wheel flashed frantically as energy was gathered up within them, and then countless rays of light shot out, each of them carrying an order and the absolute will of a Nether Emperor.

This will caused all of the ghosts to shriek and fly up.

The circling ghost eagles, floating ghosts, tenacious zombies, and countless skeletons all charged at the formation, at the spirit mountain, and at the empty space between the mountain and the formation.

If they couldn’t stop the mountain from forming, then they would use themselves as obstacles, serving as the final barrier for the formation.

The spirit mountain descended, crashing into the ghosts. Like a chestnut smashed by a hammer, the ghosts exploded in large swaths, obliterated by the frenzied energies contained within the spirit mountain.

But the ghosts still fearlessly charged to their deaths.

One wave after another.

When the spirit mountain smashed through one layer, there was another layer to take its place, and another, and another.

The ghosts were like thin pieces of paper before the spirit mountain, but sheet after sheet of paper stacked together were enough to create the sturdiest defenses. As the ghosts poured in, the spirit mountain’s descent became slower and slower, until finally, it completely stopped. Spiritual energy erupted out of the mountain, forming a massive shockwave that instantly obliterated all the surrounding ghosts.

The remnants became a hurricane that blew away the ghosts farther off, and even the cultivators in the sky were sent tumbling.

As they flew through the air, more cultivators lost connection to the formation, and it became impossible to once again form that unstoppable spirit mountain.

Yuan Tianzhong knew that they had missed out on their chance to destroy the formation in a single strike. Sighing, he said, “A hundred men to a formation! Charge!”

“Charge!” all the cultivators roared.

Everyone split into hundred-man units and assembled into another combat formation before charging downward. Compared to the ten-thousand-man formation, the hundred-man formations were clearly much easier to form.

The clash of apex powers had passed, and whether for cultivators or ghosts, it would be very hard to organize that sort of combination attack again. Now was the time for everyone to use their various Divine Connections.

With a wave of his hand, Yuan Tianzhong sent out a cloud of flames.

This flame transformed into a dragon that burned away all the ghost fog in its path, setting off a heavenly inferno.

This was the Great Sun Sect’s Triple Truth Flame. Under Yuan Tianzhong’s control, its power was comparable to the Vermillion Bird’s Southern Divine Fire. Although it did not have any ethereal and transformative properties, it had the ability to purge the Yellow Springs and exorcise all ghosts.

A great wailing arose as all the ghosts the Triple Truth Flame dragon came into contact with were burned to ash.

Following him was the Unbounded Sect’s Meng Qihong.

The Unbounded Sect did not walk the path of flames, but followed the traditional path of cultivating energy. Their arts were upright and moderate, but also vast and majestic. If not for the natural environment of the Flame Yang Domain, the Unbounded Mantra would actually be above the Great Sun Mantra. The Great Sun Sect reigned supreme solely because they had the home court advantage as practitioners of the Fire Element. Even so, the Unbounded Sect was still only second to the Great Sun Sect.

As Meng Qihong attacked, a majestic wave of energy rolled out. Though it wasn’t as domineering as the fire dragon, it contained a righteous power that drowned all the ghosts in its path.

Fairy Hong Luan and Chang Xiran also joined in. The Crimson Lotus Gate also cultivated Fire mantras, and Fairy Hong Luan’s move caused numerous crimson lotuses to bloom out of the earth. But these were actually aggregations of Fire Element energy, and as they bloomed across Heaven City, they subsequently exploded like tens of millions of novas.

This was the specialty of the Crimson Lotus Gate. They were masters at utilizing their environment to the maximum, surpassing even the Great Sun Sect in their ability to gather the Fire Element energy from their surroundings. But their actual cultivation fell far behind, which was why they ranked third, behind the Great Sun Sect and Unbounded Sect. This was because their sect consisted primarily of women, while the Fire Element represented yang, the positive male force, which was difficult for women to cultivate. This was also why they had chosen this particular path of development.

Chang Xiran didn’t go through all the trouble. As the leader of the Celestial Sword Gate, he was a master of the sword.

He threw that large broadsword of his into the air, upon which it transformed into numerous small swords.

These were not sword projections, but real art relic swords.

These art relic swords were all of the same design, and there 1,218 in all, personally crafted by Chang Xiran from the metals of the Nine Celestial Mountains and forged in Earthfire, each one of them an upper-grade art relic. Their primary purpose was to stab through an opponent’s heart in one strike, so they were called Heartbreak Swords. Because they were all the same, they were easy to control despite numbering more than a thousand, and they could be assembled into a sword formation to sweep aside his foes. And when these small swords were merged together, they became that giant divine treasure broadsword. The broadsword traded its ability to create a sword formation and deal with multiple enemies for the ability to fight against a single powerful enemy. This extremely flexible weapon was known as the Heartslayer of Union and Departure.

Chang Xiran was currently using the Heartbreak Sword Formation.

1,218 Heartbreak Swords danced to and fro, each sword issuing three beams of sword energy. There were both sword energies meant purely to fool the enemy, and sword energies meant purely to hurt the enemy, mixed so thoroughly that the ghosts couldn’t tell them apart. Chang Xiran was not the only one who could do this, however. The other cultivators of the Celestial Sword Gate joined in, and the ghosts ended up being barraged in a deluge of swords.

When it came to sheer grandeur, the Celestial Sword Gate was number one!

The other smaller sets of the Flame Yang Domain had also sent their experts, many of them at Violet Palace, and as they attacked, the skies filled with flashes of lightning.

Besides them were the cultivators of Rosecloud. They had come from afar to fight, not to spectate.

Wei Tianchong waved his hand, sending a scarlet cloud at the ghosts. At least twenty high-tier Ghost Kings summoned a dark wind in response. With all these Ghost Kings working together, even a Violet Palace True Lord like Wei Tianchong couldn’t suppress them all on his own. He bellowed in fury, “Take my Heavenly Virtue Dragon Art!”

He thrust out his hands, unleashing a brilliant red glow.

So intimidating was he that the ghosts didn’t dare to underestimate this, focusing all their powers on defending themselves. But when the expected “Heavenly Virtue Dragon Art” failed to appear, they started to wonder what was going on. Just then, a sword flashed, and six Ghost Kings were chopped in half.

The ghosts turned in alarm and saw that Cai Junyang had appeared behind them.

His sword unleashing a chilling light, Cai Junyang pursed his lips and said, “What Heavenly Virtue Dragon Art? This name is awful.”

Wei Tianchong laughed. “I made it up on the spot, so there’s no way it would sound good.”

“With your dogshit understanding of culture, even if you had time, it wouldn’t be much better.” Meng Shixue floated over, ice and snow spilling from her fingers.

Wherever the ice went, fires went out and all things withered away to be sealed in ice. As it fell on the six Ghost Kings Cai Junyang had cut in half, it froze them solid.

“That’s right. You only passed the civil exam thanks to Tang Jie.” Qi Shaoming shot over like a lightning bolt, his figure dividing into six and mincing up the frozen Ghost Kings. It was still his famous Phantom Clone Slash, but used with far greater strength and proficiency than before.

The six Qi Shaomings unleashed such wild and berserk energy in that moment that all vitality in the six Ghost Kings was extinguished, and they dissipated into nothing.

The remaining Ghost Kings all tensed up. Within the ghost fog, they had the ability to revive to a certain extent, so completely killing them was rather difficult. But the combination of these four had managed to serve them an instant obliteration.

These former schoolmates had overcome all sorts of challenges to get this far, and they were still able to fight alongside each other. When attacking, they seemed to go back to their school days, their moves perfectly playing off each other. Against a group of Violet Palace True Lords that were individually stronger than them and had such synchronization to boot, those poor high-tier Ghost Kings weren’t able to do a thing.

Wei Tianchong’s face reddened. “How long ago was that, and you’re still bringing that up? Martial Nephew Posha is still the best, wasting less time on talking and more time on doing.”

He turned to see Wang Posha fighting sixteen opponents alone, holding down the remaining high-tier Ghost Kings.

Seeing that they had finished off the previous six Ghost Kings, Wang Posha let out another six Ghost Kings, ensuring that these Ghost Kings were divided into appropriate portion sizes.

If they were allowed to keep this up, it wouldn’t be long before all the high-tier Ghost Kings were slain.

Nether Emperor Zoros was infuriated, but just when he was about to take action, he sensed danger, and his whirlwind of a body abruptly lunged forward. As he did, a sword stabbed into his wheel-like upper body in an explosion of blinding light.
