Fun times never lasted.
Ten years went by in the blink of an eye. In those ten years, Tang Jie went nowhere, only keeping his wife and children company, watching them grow up and immersing himself in this family bonding time.
Little Zixi and little Xuanyu had shown astonishing talent from birth, and even though this talent had been sealed, they had still inherited Tang Jie’s intelligence, which drew much praise. They were very energetic and quick to learn, and they used their wits and energy to bring the people around them both joy and vexation.
“No, no, Young Master, you can’t climb up there!” a maid cried out in panic while a boy climbed up a building like he was a monkey. The walls were so smooth that they seemed devoid of any places to put one’s foot, yet the boy seemed to always be able to find some small bump. Worth noting was that he never looked down, seeming to know purely based on intuition where the bumps and ledges were. This sensitivity to space was a manifestation of his talent in Space.
With this talent for Space, the boy climbed walls like one would normally walk on flat ground, but this didn’t stop the maid from yelling in fear that the boy would get hurt.
“Xi Que, don’t cause such a fuss. It’s not like this is a big deal,” a soft and gentle voice said from a nearby pavilion. Its owner was a girl who looked identical to the boy, currently holding a brush and painting.
This brush was made of an extremely heavy metal, and the girl was clearly straining herself. Despite the sweat running down her forehead, she continued to paint away, the image of a blooming lotus slowly emerging on the canvas.
“Oh my Young Lady, this can’t be allowed. What if the young master were to fall and hit his head?” Xi Que frantically replied.
The girl continued to paint her lotus as she replied, “So what if he hits his head? Father often says that you can’t grow up if you don’t go through some tribulation, that protecting someone in a hundred ways is only hurting them a hundred ways. So long as Xuanyu doesn’t die, just let him be.”
“Goodness, Young Lady, this won’t do. The young master’s precious body…” The maid refused to let the matter drop. The girl waved her hand. “Noisy!”
The maid felt some power seize her, the words she had been about to say seemingly being stuffed back into her mouth.
It was a brief sensation, so brief that one might think they were mistaken.
But the maid knew that this was no misperception. This was the young lady’s power, her innate talent—the master’s seal was not complete. He had left a small crack so that they could experience and familiarize themselves with their powers.
“I’m at the top!” The boy’s proud cry came from the roof of the building.
At the top of that towering building, Tang Xuanyu sprinted around like he was on the ground while shouting and yelling.
Suddenly, his foot slipped, and he slid down the mirror-smooth surface of the roof and began to plummet downward.
Cries of alarm came from below, but none of the maids attending to the young master were cultivators, so there was no one who could save him. Just when it seemed like Tang Xuanyu’s life was in peril, Tang Zixi suddenly let out a shout and thrust out her brush.
Everything stopped, whether it was the gusting wind, the panicked servants, the buzzing dragonflies, or even the light falling from the sky. Time seemed to have been frozen.
To be more precise, rather than being frozen, time had been greatly slowed down. The slowing of time slowed Tang Xuanyu’s descent, making it more like the drifting of a feather. Only when he was extremely close to the ground did this state end, and Tang Xuanyu let out a cry of alarm only to land on his butt.
Everyone else was unaware of what had happened and could only be amazed that Tang Xuanyu was fine. Only the girl was pale, her forehead caked in sweat and her eyes brimming with disbelief.
Tang Xuanyu shouted, “Father, you’re messing with me!”
“Haha!”
Tang Jie appeared, seemingly having been there the whole time.
All of the servants immediately prostrated. “Master!”
Tang Jie smiled at his son. “When walking atop walls, you must be careful with every step. If pulling away a small tile is enough to make you slip, then you’re being far too careless.”
“Tsk, I just wasn’t paying attention,” the stubborn Xuanyu replied.
Tang Zixi came over and bowed. “Greetings, Father.”
“Mm.” Tang Jie warmly gazed at his daughter.
Although they were twins, they had very different personalities. The mischievous and active little brother took after his mother while the quiet and intelligent older sister took after Tang Jie.
Tang Zixi looked at Tang Jie and asked, “Just now…”
Tang Jie put a finger over his lips.
Tang Zixi immediately understood what he meant.
She had been able to slow the flow of time just now because her father had undone her seal. But she could sense that the seal had been reapplied, albeit with a larger crack this time.
“This is your reward. I trust you will use it properly, yes?” Tang Jie’s voice rang out in Tang Zixi’s mind.
Tang Zixi excitedly nodded her head.
Compared to the naughty Tang Xuanyu, she was much more mature, so she was allowed to control more power.
As a father, Tang Jie cared the most about the education of his children. Whether in terms of personality or ability, Tang Jie patiently and perseveringly guided them. Incidents like this had happened countless times over the last ten years, and the two were getting more and more used to it.
Just when he was about to play with his children, a streak of fire flew out of the sky.
Tang Jie drew the flame into his hand, and it took the form of a human, a peak Soul Transformation cultivator. “He Changqing pays respects to the Celestial Sovereign. Ancestor Yun requests your presence at the Hall of Divine Conference.”
He Changqing was a new Celestial Chief of the Basking Moon Sect, one of the rising talents from the last one hundred years.
Tang Jie froze, and then he asked, “For what reason?”
He Changqing answered, “We’re about to reach Planet Divine Spring.”
So it really was that.
This answer made Tang Jie realize that his days of family bonding had finally come to an end.
————————————————
Ten years ago, not long after his return to the Rosecloud Domain, Tang Jie had gone to see Yun Tianlan.
The two of them had discussed the Rosecloud Domain’s current situation.
Yu Cheng had still been traversing the void then, but both Tang Jie and Yun Tianlan understood that Yu Cheng was bound to return, and the Great Stellar Chiliocosm was bound to experience great turmoil in the future.
In this situation, nobody dared to hope for peaceful development. Anyone who wanted to win a seat for themselves in that period of upheaval needed to be strong enough for it.
It was not just a matter of the individual being strong, but the entire domain.
This didn’t conflict with Yun Tianlan’s current plan, so after the merger with the Blood River Domain was complete, Yun Tianlan and Tang Jie decided to keep going, moving the Rosecloud Domain to find new opportunities to grow stronger.
Fortunately, Tang Jie had the star atlas, and with the star atlas, Yun Tianlan quickly plotted a route for the Rosecloud Domain. If they followed this route, the Rosecloud Domain was bound to develop quickly.
But there was an obstacle to this plan: the planet Divine Spring.
This was the world closest to the Rosecloud Domain in the path that Yun Tianlan had charted, one that was completely ruled by fiends. It was said that there was a divine spring here that could hasten the evolution of intelligent life, hence the name.
Long ago, Yun Tianlan’s travels had brought him to this place, and he had gained quite a lot from it.
The problem was that the Divine Spring Domain was actually a stronger world than the Rosecloud Domain. The upper limit here was True Immortal!
The Divine Spring Domain’s Great Fiend Ancestor was a True Immortal, a formidable existence from the same generation as the Azure Dragon.
After merging with the Blood River Domain, the Rosecloud Domain had also become a True Immortal world, but it had spent too little time at this level, and there were still no other True Immortals than Yun Tianlan. Meanwhile, they didn’t know what True Immortals resided in the Divine Spring Domain other than the Great Fiend Ancestor. And as an old True Immortal world, it was completely possible that there were multiple True Immortals living on it at the same time.
Even so, after some discussion, Yun Tianlan and Tang Jie decided to still proceed along that route.
The threat of Yu Cheng was just too great.
Compared to Yu Cheng and the Court of Myriad Domains, the Divine Spring Domain was nothing at all. If they couldn’t grow strong enough before Yu Cheng united the Vast Wilderness, their future would be even more excruciating.
And the Divine Spring Domain was rich in resources, with the divine spring itself being a legendary treasure, along with all the fiends that had benefited from it. The immense danger and the abundant resources combined to make Yun Tianlan and Tang Jie anxious to get their hands on this world.
But there was one last piece of news that made Yun Tianlan and Tang Jie make up their minds.
This news was obtained from a Blood River Domain cultivator who had returned from his travels. According to him, the Divine Spring Domain had launched a cultivator war some one hundred years ago, but the domain they had chosen was the Ocean King Domain, which was somewhat farther away.
There had been no domain-merging formation involved, and so the Divine Spring Domain had used the most traditional method of sending troops over to try and occupy that domain. Surprisingly, the Divine Spring Domain lost the war.
Cultivator wars were cruel affairs, and it was basically impossible for no Titans to lose their lives.
This made Yun Tianlan and Tang Jie hopeful.
Thus, not long after they made up their minds, the Rosecloud Domain began to move toward the Divine Spring Domain. Of course, moving to the domain didn’t mean that they had to attack. If they confirmed that this was an opponent they couldn’t defeat, the Rosecloud Domain could choose to go around and continue on the route in search of more opportunities.
But whether they fought or not, the Rosecloud Domain could not stop advancing and expanding. With an era of chaos imminent, to not advance was to retreat, and only death awaited the losers!
After ten years of floating through the void, they were finally approaching this world!
