Chapter 1234: Selection
“Good. Sign the contract. Now.”
The paragons hesitated. But each moment they did, Atticus’ pressure over them only intensified. Any more, and they would be turning to blood and gore like the last fool. They swallowed hard and signed.
“You will obey every order I give without fail. You will cause no trouble to any council you’re on and will only give good input that benefits the planet, never bad. You will never even so much as think of betraying the planet or alliance. You will keep your people in line and make sure none of them ever bullies or spreads rumors.
“For now, that is all. You may leave.”
Atticus waved his arm, and every one of them vanished from the hall, leaving only him and Oberon behind.
Oberon approached Atticus with a smile on his face. “You handled that well, Supreme Ruler.”
“Let me guess, you thought I was going to kill them.”
Oberon released a cough and looked away, quickly changing the topic. “Now that they’re basically enslaved, they shouldn’t cause any more trouble.”
Atticus nodded. Oberon turned back to him. “Can I ask you a question, Supreme Ruler?”
“What’s up?”
“The Vampyros and Dimensari have been acting up for a year now. Why are you interfering just now?”
Atticus went silent for a moment.
“The coming Virelenna will challenge the god, me, and could also challenge the people. It’s very important that we all be united for the coming fight. We’ll need it.”
Oberon nodded, his gaze turning serious. “Have you made your choice?”
Atticus turned toward him. “You’ll find out the same time as the others.”
Time passed quickly. Atticus’ interference caused a massive shift in the new Eldoralth. As the enslaved paragons returned from their meeting with Atticus, they immediately got to work, having no choice but to comply with his words.
Meetings were held across all provinces where the Dimensari and Vampyros resided. Their people were forced into line. The bullying stopped. The rumors vanished. The bar fights ended.
In the councils where the Vampyros and Dimensari sat, they now followed the laid down rules to a tee, neither even daring to think of disobedience.
In just a short span, Atticus solved a problem that had plagued them for an entire year.
Jenera noticed the change instantly and approached Oberon without hesitation.
“Obi, do you know what happened?”
Oberon was used to the nickname. He smiled.
“Our fearless leader spoke to them.”
“Spoke?” Jenera raised a brow before her eyes widened. She nodded slowly. “So it’s like that…”
“Yeah. We don’t have to worry about them anymore.”
The people continued their lives, unaware of the looming threat. The Eldorians trained without pause. Atticus had yet to choose his champions, and none of them wanted to be caught off guard when the time came.
The world of Eldoralth kept moving, lit under the glow of the blue star. And when the day finally arrived, the leaders of the new world hovered high in the sky, gazes fixed on the star of Torrevenos.
The Eldorians floated in a straight line, and directly in front of them stood their god, Atticus Ravenstein.
For this event, Atticus chose something simple. He wore a loose, sleeveless black robe like top with matching trousers. The outfit resembled martial arts attire.
The air around him was shockingly calm. It didn’t look like they were about to enter a competition that could cost their lives.
He turned and faced his warriors. Eyes shifted from the star to their god.
“I will select the four champions now.”
There was tension in the air as Atticus spoke. They all waited, holding their breath.
“Ozeroth.”
Atticus’ chest ignited in a burst of golden light. Ozeroth’s figure shot out from it, fully materializing beside him.
His chin was raised to the heavens, as though it was beneath him. Naturally, he was picked first.
“Grandpa Magnus.”
Despite being an Eldorian with varying powers, the moment his name was called, thunder rumbled through the sky.
Magnus stepped forward, his expression unchanged, lightning crackling around his form. He nodded at Atticus and hovered beside Ozeroth.
“Aric.”
There was a bit of surprise at the third name. So far, Ozeroth and Magnus were both close to Atticus. It was starting to feel like he was choosing only those he trusted completely.
Aric’s swords hummed as he stepped forward, taking his place beside Atticus. The battle hadn’t even started, yet his battle intent enveloped the space.
The Eldorians waited for the last name. Most of their gazes drifted toward Whisker, who hovered a bit off to the side. He too watched Atticus with a small smile.
It had to be him, they all thought. Whisker stood on the same level as Atticus, Ozeroth, and Noctis. He was strong, and Eldoralth needed strong.
“Zenon.”
The Eldorians’ eyes narrowed. Zenon? He was the last person they expected.
Even Zenon looked shocked as he hesitantly moved to stand beside Aric.
They turned questioning gazes toward Atticus. Why Zenon? He was undoubtedly powerful, but with Noctis, Whisker, and others still available, it felt like an odd choice.
But Atticus didn’t look like he planned on explaining. He turned toward Avalon, whose expression had grown troubled.
“Someone has to stay and protect the family, Dad.”
Avalon looked at his son. He clenched his fist… then nodded seriously.
Atticus shifted his gaze toward the rest of the Eldorians. “I want you all to prepare for the worst. There’s every likelihood that you’ll all have to fight too.”
The remaining Eldorians nodded seriously, their auras rising. They would be ready.
Atticus turned toward Whisker. “I’ll leave them in your hands.”
Whisker winked, waving his arms lazily. “Alright, alright, I got it. Now stop being cringe.” He smirked. “They’re in safe hands. Don’t worry.”
Atticus tried to keep a straight face. Whisker’s relaxed demeanor truly wasn’t reassuring. Still, he nodded and turned his gaze back to the blue star, just in time for Quiet Flame’s voice to echo across the world.
“It’s time for the Virelenna. Champions, you’ve been invited to the star of Torrevenos.”
A pathway of blue formed before them, stretching toward the distant blue star. Without hesitation, they stepped onto it, and walked.
