Vol 2 Chapter 119: Emerging from Seclusion
Though Lin Jing had vanished from the world for ten years, his legend never faded.
A decade ago, he had exhausted all his Hidden Dragon Fortune to aid the Dragonblood Carp’s evolution. But over the years, that fortune had accumulated once more, now brimming with power.
This time, however, it had nothing to do with the Fire Qilin Dragon. Having already awakened its Rare Beast Divine Ability and achieved Emperor-tier bloodline, the Hidden Dragon Fortune could no longer provide significant benefits to it. Instead, Lin Jing planned to use it for his own cultivation.
His first priority—Beast Weaponization Technique.
This secret art allowed contract beasts to transform into various weapons and equipment.
The more compatible the pet and the weapon form, the greater the power they could unleash.
It was a technique that Foundation Establishment disciples of the Beast Taming Sect rarely bought artifacts for—not because they couldn’t afford them (though many were indeed broke from raising their beasts), but because this secret art turned their pet beasts into their strongest weapons.
Lin Jing had wanted to learn this for a long time.
Right now, he didn’t particularly lack offensive weapons. What he lacked was a strong defensive artifact. As a Longevity Body cultivator, his own defenses had to be near-invincible—but he also needed a top-tier defensive artifact to further enhance his survivability.
Thus, he planned to master this technique and turn one of his contract beasts into armor to absorb damage in battle.
And for that…
Who better than a dragon?
Even without fully mastering the technique, Lin Jing was certain that the Fire Qilin Dragon, with its Dragon Emperor bloodline, would have defensive power surpassing most mid-grade artifacts if transformed into armor.
Moreover, this wouldn’t be just armor—it would be battle armor. Clad in the Flame Qilin Armor, and combined with his Flame Control Art, Lin Jing could wield the beast’s fused flames both offensively and defensively.
And if he fused it with the Ice Soul Gu’s power, he wouldn’t even have to worry about the backlash from frost energy anymore.
The mere thought of donning the Flame Qilin Armor filled Lin Jing with anticipation.
Wasting no time, he opened the Beast Weaponization manual and began cultivating.
Within a few days, using his fortune-converted comprehension, Lin Jing fully grasped the technique.
Compared to Heavenly Demon Physique, this technique was far easier to cultivate—after all, the three core secret arts of the Beast Taming Sect were interwoven with the Beast Taming Art, making them much more accessible. ŕ₳𐌽ОʙƐꞩ
Seeing that his three pet beasts were still consolidating their breakthroughs, Lin Jing continued his seclusion, diving into the Heavenly Demon Physique.
However, after half a month, despite burning ten years’ worth of accumulated fortune, he hadn’t made a single breakthrough.
“No wonder only two people in the Demon-Slaying Bureau have ever mastered this in thousands of years.”
“This is probably the hardest technique I’ve ever tried cultivating…”
Lin Jing sighed.
“If only I could borrow the Golden Bodhi Tree again. Compared to that, the fortune’s comprehension boost is still too weak.”
Opening his eyes, Lin Jing sensed little progress—but during this time, his three pet beasts had finally stabilized their cultivation.
With their overwhelming foundations, the power surge from their continuous breakthroughs had been enormous. It had taken them a long time just to fully control it.
“If they weren’t protecting me for the past decade, they probably would’ve reached Core Formation by now…”
Lin Jing mused.
By now, the geniuses from the last Genius Rankings Battle had likely all reached Core Formation. He wondered if, in his current state, he could still compete with them.
The Ice Soul Gu was the first to awaken—its innate talent made it exceptionally quick at mastering its newfound strength.
The Pine Leaf Mouse opened its eyes next. With its Everlasting Emperor’s Longevity Art, its control over its power was exceptional.
The Fire Qilin Dragon, despite its years of refining pills and honing its control, was the last to stabilize. Having evolved the latest, it needed more time to adapt to its drastically enhanced strength.
“How’s everyone feeling?”
The Ice Soul Gu asked.
Immediately, all eight of its sub-Gu stirred restlessly within.
“Fight! Fight! Fight!”
The Fire Qilin Dragon soared into the air, its fiery gaze locking onto the Ice Soul Gu and Pine Leaf Mouse. Clearly, it was very satisfied with its newfound power.
The Pine Leaf Mouse, however, wasn’t interested.
After a quick glance at the spiritual plants it had cultivated… its expression turned despondent.
“So many of them have withered… Ten years without care…”
Heartbroken, it hurriedly burrowed back into its gourd, hoping to revive some of them.
The Ice Soul Gu didn’t acknowledge the overexcited “stupid fish” either. Instead, it focused on sensing its sub-Gu.
“I can feel it—two of my sub-Gu have reached mid-Foundation Establishment. If only they were late-stage as well… If I could reclaim them now, I’d reach the perfect Foundation Establishment!”
The Ice Soul Gu muttered to itself, eager to advance first among them.
The progression from late-stage Foundation Establishment to perfection wasn’t a dramatic leap—it was a gradual refinement of True Essence.
Once a cultivator reached their limit, they could begin compressing their True Essence and attempt Core Formation.
Success meant forming a Golden Core, gaining Core Formation divine abilities, and stepping into the ranks of the true powerhouses.
Failure, however…
At best, it resulted in severe injuries.
At worst—death.
For this reason, many weaker or less confident cultivators chose to condense a False Core instead. Though inferior to true Core Formation, False Core cultivators were still far stronger than those at Foundation Establishment, creating a clear gap in status.
However, for the Ice Soul Gu, reaching perfect Foundation Establishment meant it could attempt Core Formation anytime—and its chances of success were absolute.
Since it was unlikely to defeat a Rare Beast with an immortal’s inheritance at its current level, it prioritized advancing its realm as quickly as possible.
“Is that so?”
Hearing this, Lin Jing murmured,
“The Jiang Twins have already raised the Ice Soul Lesser Gu to mid-Foundation Establishment… That’s the same realm as me now.”
“Let’s go check on them.”
With that, Lin Jing retracted the Ice Soul Gu into his body.
The Fire Qilin Dragon froze.
Wait, what? You’re not going to fight me?
“ROOOAR!!!”
It blinked, momentarily stunned, before realization dawned—Lin Jing simply didn’t dare fight it anymore.
“Fine. You’re the strongest now. If you want to fight, I’ll find you a proper opponent outside.”
Lin Jing pulled out his Meditation Staff, withdrew the Fire Qilin Dragon, then shrank the staff into a pendant, stringing it on a thread of spider silk around his neck.
“Senior Xu, are you leaving?”
At the Dragon Palace Assembly Hall, the Jiang Twins—now the leaders of Dragon Palace—bid farewell to Xu Zhizhi.
“My city’s still a mess. I need to return.” Xu Zhizhi sighed.
“But as always—the moment Lin Jing emerges from seclusion, let me know.”
The Jiang Twins nodded, but just as they were about to respond, their expressions changed abruptly.
They had felt a reaction from their sub-Gu.
“Xu Zhizhi, long time no see. Looks like you finally reached Core Formation—Golden Core early-stage. Impressive.”
A familiar voice echoed from outside the Assembly Hall.
Xu Zhizhi took a deep breath before exclaiming—
“Damn it, you’re finally out!”
“Do you have ANY idea how much of a mess I’ve had to clean up because you didn’t leave behind enough Rising Dragon Pills before you vanished?!”
“…Wait. Ten years of seclusion… And you’re STILL only at mid-Foundation Establishment?!”
