The competition continued into the afternoon. Aside from a two-hour lunch break, the matches had been non-stop.
4:33 PM.
He Dadao withdrew his Blaze Gorilla and walked off the stage.
“Our matches for today should be done, right? How about we go out for dinner tonight?” He Dadao smiled. His undefeated streak today had put him in a great mood.
Normally, when the school team competed, meals were provided uniformly, and going out required the coach's approval. However, since these were just group-stage matches, Sun Boyi, the team’s coach, was confident about the seniors’ abilities.
Knowing that with half of the participants advancing from the group, the three of them would have no trouble, he took a more hands-off approach. Unlike other schools' coaches, who would motivate their students or give tactical advice before every match, he preferred to stay relaxed as long as they won and the competition wasn’t affected.
Going out for a meal was a minor issue. He Dadao knew the coach wouldn’t object.
“No thanks, I still need to prepare for tomorrow’s matches.” Xu Yixuan declined.
Although advancing from the group stage wasn’t a problem, losing two matches to Qiao Sang today had left her in no mood for dining out.
“Then how about just the two of us?” He Dadao turned to Qiao Sang.“I…” Qiao Sang was about to respond when Lubao swatted her with her paw.
“Lu.”
Go out? No, you need to train.
Qiao Sang’s lips twitched as she shifted her tone.
“I also need to prepare for tomorrow’s matches.”
He Dadao froze for a moment before reflecting on himself.
If the two stronger players were working so hard, how could he justify relaxing after a momentary victory?
“Alright, I won’t go either.” He Dadao said.
Later at the Public Training Grounds
The training area in the Beast Taming Center was bustling with people and their pets, mostly participants from other schools staying at the center during the competition. However, with only one available training space, Qiao Sang's team could only practice non-destructive skills.
Though the area was crowded, not many were actually training.
“Are you kidding? The only Flame Hound and the endangered Ice Qiya are here! Who can focus on training with that distraction?”
“Look at the Flame Hound! It’s blindingly cool!”
“And Ice Qiya’s tail and ears, so fluffy! I want to pet them so badly!”
Nearby, a boy handed his phone to his Power Duck, excitedly asking, “Quick! Take a picture of me with them in the background!”
The duck nodded seriously, adjusting angles and snapping away like a professional photographer.
Watching the scene, Qiao Sang poked the small Little Treasure perched on her head.
“You’re not joining them?”
“Xunnnnn~” The little pet shook his head earnestly, offering an excuse he had clearly prepared: There are too many people. My skills are too powerful. It’s dangerous to train here.
Sure, keep making excuses. You’re shameless enough to say that with a straight face… Qiao Sang mentally rolled her eyes and began considering what skills it could work on.
“Why don’t you find some ants to practice with?” She suggested.
“Xunnnn~”
The little one floated down, smirking smugly as he pulled a plastic bottle from his spatial ring. Inside the bottle were live ants crawling about.
Qiao Sang blinked, stunned.
“When did you put those ants in the ring?”
Xunnnnn! The pet mimicked deep thought before calling out confidently, he had been the night Yabao used the whistle.
Qiao Sang froze. That was at least a week ago. In an airtight space, ants shouldn’t survive for more than a few minutes. Unless… his ring could now store living creatures?
Excitement welled up in her. The ability to store living things completely transformed the potential uses of such a space! She immediately wanted to check the Beast Taming Codex for updates on his attributes.
BOOM!
A sudden clap of thunder startled everyone.
“What the! That scared me! Why is it thundering all of a sudden?”
“Wasn’t today supposed to be clear?”
“Is this some divine beast transcending tribulation?”
Qiao Sang looked up at the sky, now blanketed in dark clouds. The ominous atmosphere felt like a storm was imminent.
“Yap Yap!”
“Lu.”
Her other pets rushed to her side. Glancing at Lubao, she noticed her tail and ears hadn’t enlarged,a sign that her rain-sensing ability hadn’t activated.
Something was off.
She waved her hand to recall the pets into the Beast Taming Codex, leaving only Little Treasure on her head as she dashed toward the dorms.
“Qiao Sang!”
A male voice called out from behind, filled with surprise and joy.
Turning around, she saw a boy with bangs covering his eyes. It was Wu Chang, the supposed Child of Fortune.
“I’ve been looking all over for you!” he said with a wide, friendly grin.
Qiao Sang’s gaze shifted to the sky behind him. The dark clouds were dissipating rapidly, and the threat of a storm vanished as if it had never been there.
