Compared to Qiao Sang’s calm demeanor, Naiden was on the verge of a mental breakdown.
He was at least a somewhat well-known beast tamer, yet he had been defeated twice in a row. What would others think of him?
If his opponent were a fellow beast tamer ranked higher than him in the Beast Battle Arena, he might feel a bit better about it.
But the person before him was clearly a newcomer, and worse yet, an underaged one. Where was he supposed to save his face after this?
Naiden could almost hear the mocking laughter of the audience.
In reality, there wasn’t much laughter; instead, there were plenty of angry complaints.
Previously, the audience who bet on a 2:1 result were collectively losing their cool.
“What’s going on? Not even a minute passed, and he lost the second match. Is he throwing the game?”“He already knew that the opponent’s pet was Fire and Psychic-type, yet he made no preparations at all?”
“I’ve had enough! Losing once is bad enough, but to lose the second round like this? And this guy is ranked 68th in the Beast Battle Tournament?!”
The venue was filled with angry shouts.
The commentator, though equally shocked, restrained from using impolite language, thanks to over a decade of professional discipline.
“Qiao Sang wins again!”
The commentator excitedly announced, “I believe this match surprised everyone! Qiao Sang’s pet first used clones to confuse the Suction Beast and then ended the battle swiftly with the ultimate skill, Fire Fang!”
“It was clean and decisive! Naiden didn’t react at all throughout the match!”
“But this round got me thinking, has Naiden become too reliant on his equipment? If the Suction Beast didn’t have the Beast Sensor Ring, would Naiden have been more cautious?”
Having said enough, the commentator turned to Wang Xuezhi beside him, not expecting much as he asked, “Miss Xuezhi, what are your thoughts on this match?”
Wang Xuezhi leaned towards the microphone and spoke, “I’m curious about the name of that pet. I couldn’t identify it using the Beast Identifier.”
Even though her response was entirely unrelated to his question, the commentator was so moved that he almost shed tears.
She spoke!
Finally, he wasn’t monologuing anymore!
Her comment brought a brief silence to the audience, followed by a louder uproar.
For a moment, everyone forgot their anger, focusing all their attention on the dazzling pet on the stage.
“How can the Beast Identifier fail to recognize it?”
“That’s impossible! Even legendary pets should be identifiable with the Beast Identifier!”
“Is Wang Xuezhi’s Beast Identifier an older model?”
“No, she’s using the latest model from the Quanshi brand!” A well-informed fan replied.
At that moment, one audience member looked stunned.
“Oh my god! It really can’t identify it!”
Those around turned to look and saw the person aiming their Beast Identifier at the red-and-white pet on the stage.
Seeing this, the audience members quickly took out their own devices to check.
Soon, they were all dumbfounded.
“Did yours recognize it?”
“No... What about yours?”
“Mine didn’t either...”
“What could make a Beast Identifier fail to recognize a pet?”
“This pet must be an unknown species, not yet cataloged by the Alliance!”
“How could there be a pet that the Alliance doesn’t know about?!”
“There’s one more possibility.”
“What’s that?”
“This pet isn’t from our planet, Chaosu Star.”
“!!!”
Although interplanetary interactions were normal in this age, it was still rare to encounter beasts from other planets.
Each planet’s Beast Identifier only recorded data about its native creatures.
There were devices cataloging all known interplanetary pets, but they were incredibly expensive, far beyond what ordinary people would buy.
None of the audience members present owned such an advanced device.
Realizing that the nameless pet on the stage was likely from another planet, the crowd quickly forgot about the match’s outcome. They all took out their phones, eagerly snapping pictures to share on social media.
Meanwhile, the countdown for the third round had just ended.
This time, Naiden’s pet launched the first attack.
It plunged its claws into the ground, and countless solid rocks burst out, closing in on Yabao.
The rocks were so numerous that they covered almost the entire arena.
Yabao opened his mouth, spewing spinning, dazzling flames that shattered the oncoming rocks into dust.
Rockdora, an advanced Rock-type pet known for its strong defense, could easily crush rocks with the sharp horn on its head...
Its special ability was Sturdy, which prevented it from being knocked out in one hit, even by an instant-kill move.
In other words, it had a one-time shield... But since Rockdora had already fought several battles, it wasn’t in peak condition, so that ability could be ignored...
Qiao Sang observed the massive, gray, rock-covered creature with a sharp horn on its head and spiked lower jaw. Her mind recalled the commentator’s earlier analysis.
“Fire Fang.” Qiao Sang calmly commanded.
Everyone’s attention was on the pet, so they didn’t notice Qiao Sang’s upward finger gesture.
But Yabao noticed.
In the next moment, he vanished from sight.
That move again... Naiden instinctively grew wary.
Although confident in Rockdora’s defense, the two previous defeats still haunted him.
If he lost to the same move again, his reputation would be ruined.
Not daring to be careless, Naiden quickly gave his order:
“Spike!”
Spike Stone Attack, rather than defending, he decided to counterattack. Fire Fang required close proximity to strike, so he wanted to see if Fire Fang would hit Rockdora first or if Spike Stone Attack would reach the opponent first.
At worst, he’d trade blows, confident that Rockdora’s defense wouldn’t lose...
This thought bolstered Naiden’s confidence.
But soon, his face turned pale, and he shouted in an unprecedented panic:
“Dodge it!”
On the arena, Rockdora stood firm, fists colliding as countless spikes of varying sizes erupted from its body, making it impossible to approach.
But Yabao didn’t use Fire Fang.
He used Hyper Beam.
By the time Naiden yelled “Dodge it,” the Hyper Beam had already been fired.
A thick white beam shot down from the sky at incredible speed, obliterating the spikes and hitting Rockdora dead-on.
Rockdora’s entire body was engulfed in the blinding light.
“Rooooock!”
With a miserable cry, the beam faded, and Rockdora collapsed to the ground, eyes closed.
Naiden’s face turned ashen, unable to cope with the blow.
Where was the promised Fire Fang?!
Rockdora might’ve been the most defensive of his three pets, but it had already fought a few rounds and wasn’t in peak condition...
Qiao Sang had initially expected Naiden to use a defensive move, but he chose Spike Stone Attack instead...
Not that it mattered. She had already noticed that Rockdora rarely moved when attacking or defending...
She deliberately mentioned Fire Fang to mislead Naiden. Otherwise, if she had announced Hyper Beam, he would’ve made Rockdora move to dodge it.
Everything went exactly as she planned.
Despite Yabao's usual silliness, his battle instincts were spot-on. Just a glance and a gesture were enough to convey her true intent.
