Baoway's buildings were littered with cozy living rooms. Due to Khan's proclivity to indulge in rivers of booze quite often, they were also stuffed with refreshments and drinks, so Princess Rebecca only had to open a random door to enter one of those private areas.
Princess Rebecca let go of Khan at that point, only to occupy one of the many sofas. She made herself comfortable, warmly smiling while following Khan with her gaze. She seemed to wait for something, but Khan's inaction eventually forced her to speak.
"It's impolite to leave a Lady alone and dry, Nephew," Princess Rebecca scolded.
Khan snapped back to reality and proceeded to pour two drinks. The hall's many tables had no shortage of bottles and glasses, so he quickly delivered the booze to his Aunt before occupying a nearby couch.
"You can't just rely on your looks," Princess Rebecca criticized. "You need to be a gentleman, too."
Khan peeked at his Aunt from behind his drink. He already had a Fiancée. He was actually one step away from getting married. Khan didn't need good manners to catch women anymore. George would even complain if he got any better at that.
"Though, that crown does look good," Princess Rebecca continued. "It's definitely better than the previous."
Khan didn't reply and focused on his drink. His Aunt liked to tease him and play around, and he had never become good at dealing with her. Her motherly affection was his greatest weakness.
"Will you be fine?" Khan eventually asked.
"Always so serious," Princess Rebecca sighed. "What a waste of such a cute Nephew.""Everything should be better once I leave," Khan announced, ignoring the comment. "But I'll return as soon as possible if anything happens."
Khan meant every word. The fear of the Empire's retaliation was bound to keep the Global Army in check, but greed could fuel the dumbest choices, and Khan had to be ready to intervene.
However, Princess Rebecca ignored his question, focusing on revelations hidden behind Khan's simple statement.
"So," Princess Rebecca called. "You are leaving."
Khan couldn't help but raise his gaze to meet his Aunt's eyes. He had announced he would leave the political scene but had never mentioned anything about an imminent departure. Nevertheless, that discovery didn't shock Princess Rebecca.
"It was long overdue," Princess Rebecca stated. "I initially thought you would have left as soon as you came out of my lab."
"I had things to handle," Khan revealed. "Still, aren't you angry? You supported me from the beginning, and now I'm just leaving."
"I supported you because you were my cute Nephew," Princess Rebecca scoffed, "Other than the right person for the job. Our faction lacked power and unity, and you brought both."
Princess Rebecca leaned deeper into the couch, staring at a random spot on the ceiling while playing with her glass. "The tournament will continue to improve our fame. It doesn't matter what you or we do. The opportunity is too good for the Global Army to pass out on it." Of course, the second tournament should have begun months ago, but Khan had been incredibly busy and away. Still, everything had long since been ready. He only needed to say the word, and the invitations would reach every corner of the Global Army.
'Actually,' Khan thought. 'Thomas should be the one doing it now.'
"We have a monopoly over key resources," Princess Rebecca continued. "The supplement is revolutionary, and we are bound to invent more marvels with your alien friends. Our faction also has a decent foundation now, so money won't be a problem."
Prince Thomas didn't stay still during Khan's rule. He had initially secured business endeavors under his name to fight for the position of faction leader and had continued to manage them even after serving under Khan.
"And the Empire is the greatest shield we could have asked for," Princess Rebecca concluded.
"Won't its alien nature create problems?" Khan questioned.
"Power is power," Princess Rebecca explained. "It doesn't matter where it comes from. The other factions or families might complain, but no one will underestimate or overstep the Empire's boundaries."
"That's good," Khan nodded, emptying his drink and reaching for the bottle he had left nearby.
Princess Rebecca followed Khan's every gesture with her attentive gaze. She didn't have his heightened senses but could almost perceive his internal conflict. Princess Rebecca knew her Nephew wanted nothing more than to keep his loved ones safe.
"Will you look for the Nak?" Princess Rebecca asked.
"Yes," Khan said, not hiding anything.
"Good," Princess Rebecca commented. "None of us enjoys seeing you suffer every night."
"Many don't know," Khan pointed out, showing a smirk that Princess Rebecca couldn't help but find sad.
"Damned Nephew," Princess Rebecca sighed. "Honestly, you are too good for your own good. It took you so long to decide to prioritize yourself."
"I've never been called good in my life," Khan chuckled. "And I was busy."
"Busy fixing a family that shunned you in every conceivable way before being forced to accept you," Princess Rebecca stated. "Busy creating a safe place for your friends. Busy building a home for Monica."
"I endured the nightmares for more than a decade," Khan declared. "What's another year or two?"
"It's everything in the eyes of those who love you," Princess Rebecca scolded before placing her half-full glass on the couch's armrest. "However, I guess you wouldn't be you otherwise. That's why I said you are too good."
"I'm not good," Khan corrected. "I just value my suffering less than others'."
Princess Rebecca studied Khan, who in turn inspected his second drink. He looked empty but strangely at peace, as if he had accepted a fundamental truth about his life.
Needless to say, that sight made Princess Rebecca livid.
Khan lifted his gaze in time to see a slap fly on his cheek. He could have dodged it. He could have pulverized Princess Rebecca's hand before it even came close to his face. Yet, Khan didn't due to the affection reeking out of his Aunt.
The slap didn't hurt, not physically, at least. If anything, Khan was worried whether Princess Rebecca had suffered any injury, but she didn't give him time to check.
In the next second, Princess Rebecca had already stolen Khan's head, hugging it tightly to her
chest.
