Chapter 1081: Sore cheeks
"And it was on my fourth year here that I decided this was my home," Captain Lochport half-shouted, slurring his words while seemingly incapable of keeping his head still. "Those ungrateful subordinates planned a secret birthday party. A birthday party! Do you know how hard it is to keep a secret inside a small space station?"
Khan chuckled, amused by the Captain's good heart and drunken state. His cheeks almost felt sore when he sipped from his drink. It had been a long time since he had smiled for so long, and his face was readjusting itself to the experience.
"They sound like good guys," Khan commented.
"They are a bunch of outcasts and annoying kids with no other place to go," Captain Lochport snorted, steading himself to refill his drink. "But they are good kids. Life just dealt them a bad hand."
Somehow, many bottles had gone by, leading to the current situation. Captain Lochport had sat again and drunk to his heart's content, almost telling Khan his entire life's story.
'How can he be such a lightweight?' Khan wondered, comparing his perfectly sober state to the Captain's drunken one. 'He is a third-level warrior.'
Then, Khan studied the graveyard of bottles on the table. He had drunk more on a few occasions, but their number wasn't small. He had ended up going all-out without realizing it, but his body perfectly handled it.
'I guess I am a drunkard,' Khan thought. 'Dad would be proud.'
"Wait, if you consider them family," Khan said, "Why did you send those women to entertain me? I know I wouldn't."
"Those two begged me for the chance to get their hands on you," Captain Lochport complained. "Mary usually is on the prude side, but she also changed her mind after seeing you."
Khan almost blinked in surprise. He knew he was popular, but that sounded a bit extreme. His glowing eyes fell on his free hand, wondering whether he had developed something similar to the Nele's pheromones but couldn't spot anything of the sort.
"Women!" Captain Lochport cursed. "Let me tell you, Prince. There's no hornier animal than a woman in the military after being stuck in a space station for years."
"Am I an exotic prey now?" Khan joked.
"I'd be scared for my dong if I were in your shoes," Captain Lochport stated. "Well, not that you wear any shoes."
Khan chuckled again, suppressing the urge to massage his cheeks. The Captain reminded him of his Father and George, creating an exhilarating combination.
"Ah, by the way," Captain Lochport recalled. "Are your arms hurt? We have a decent medical bay here. Nott Station might not be much, but I spared no expense for doctors and medical equipment."
Khan's smile turned sweeter and more honest now. He understood why the Captain had done that and what it implied. Nott Station was quite far away from proper outposts, so medical emergencies could easily turn into fatal events. Investing in doctors and equipment meant keeping the crews safer.
"Don't worry about this," Khan reassured, lifting his free arm to inspect its many slightly open scars. "It's just a price I have to pay to get what I want."
Captain Lochport's partially dazed eyes studied Khan's expression, seemingly spotting the helplessness and sadness inside it. His drunken state didn't diminish his insight into human psychology, and his non-existent inhibitions made him comment on it.
"You should take better care of yourself, Prince Khan," Captain Lochport said in a surprisingly steady tone. "Prince or not, you are still young. You risk making those a permanent mark."
"I'm already littered with scars," Khan commented. "And it sounds like the right punishment for what I can do."
Khan had been honest. Destruction came at a price, and his body was paying it now. Khan believed that to be a side effect of his incomplete attunement but still welcomed its more spiritual meaning.
"I wouldn't dream of thinking that I can teach you something," Captain Lochport muttered, diverting his gaze to search for more booze. "Everyone knows you fought more and harder than I ever will. Still, the mind has a limit."
Captain Lochport eventually found a bottle, but his body swayed when he brought it close, and holding onto it didn't stop him from leaning on the table.
The Captain's head risked hitting the glass in his hand, but Khan gently pulled his arm away, letting him lean on the interactive desk. The middle-aged man seemed to struggle for a few seconds, but his eyes soon closed, and a snore resounded in the meeting room.
Khan wore another gentle smile. Truthfully, his body had moved on its own, conditioned by the years spent taking care of Bret. Khan even studied the snoring Captain for a while, scoffing to himself at the many similarities he found. Still, when he emptied his glass, his face turned cold again.

Mary felt a bit tense while standing outside the meeting room. She had gone against the Captain's orders, replacing her companion to be Khan's escort again. She usually didn't rebel so openly, but her mind yearned for another look at the infamous Prince.
It was strange, really. Prince Khan should have been nothing more than an incredible fourth-level warrior, but Mary knew something was off. She couldn't explain what, but walking at his side was a breathtaking experience. Mary felt she was in the company of greatness incarnate and wanted more.
A gasp escaped Mary's mouth when the meeting room's door opened, releasing a thick stench of booze. Snores also resounded from inside while the person Mary had awaited stepped out. Khan studied her, and she reexperienced the intense sensations from the previous day.
The feeling was indescribable. Mary felt naked under Khan's glowing eyes, exposed but also completely safe. She didn't have heightened senses, but her body perceived a strange difference from the previous day. Mary believed Prince Khan's presence had grown kinder, enveloping her in a warm, soothing aura.
"Is he always like this?" Khan asked, and another snore resounded from inside the meeting room, explaining his question.
"Ah, apologies, Prince Khan," Mary gasped again, snapping back to reality and hurriedly performing a military salute. "Captain Lochport tends to overdo when he is anxious."
Mary suddenly widened her eyes, realizing that simply apologies might not do. Captain Lochport had fallen asleep during an official meeting with a Prince. That went beyond poor etiquette, but Mary didn't want anything bad happening to him.
"Prince Khan!" Mary exclaimed, raising her voice while performing a deep bow. "Please forgive the Captain. He was just overwhelmed by the arrival of such an important figure."
"So," Khan said, "Is it my fault?"
Mary gasped again, raising her head, only to spot Khan's teasing smile among his eyes' bright light. The scene dazzled her, almost putting her in a trance. Prince Khan shouldn't have any right to trigger such profound reactions, but something in his presence felt intoxicating.
Mary couldn't help but feel she was standing before something so superior her mind couldn't even attempt to comprehend. It could only be entranced by it.
"Give me a complete tour of Nott Station," Khan ordered, partially dispersing the spell Mary had fallen under. "Have someone attend to the Captain. I'll meet him again once he recovers."
