Chaos Heir

Chapter 1273: Strong

Chapter 1273: Strong

The problems with the Nak’s home world weren’t about reaching it. Khan had already done that. The issue was with arriving there and having enough fuel and supplies left to cross the asteroids and the blue storm that afflicted them.

Therefore, Khan had put Garret on the job, relying on the Nognes family’s resources to establish checkpoints and resting spots that could provide necessary breaks during that long journey.

However, it seemed the job was virtually done now.

In a different situation, Khan would have wanted nothing more than to hear those words. Actually, Khan had waited for something similar most of his life.

After all, reaching the Nak promised to get rid of the nightmares that had afflicted Khan for over twenty-two years. Having Liiza at his side brought some coziness to his nights, but that curse had never stopped raging.

Nevertheless, the timing couldn’t have been more terrible. The political situation was a mess, which Khan had just started to fix. Also, most of those problems required his direct and immediate presence, and they couldn’t wait another year or longer so that he could complete his main quest.

Moreover, the situation had another issue, which Khan couldn’t help but put at the top of his priorities. Liiza was in a delicate state that demanded all the help Khan could find, and the fateful trip to the Nak’s home world would get in her way.

The Niqols shared many traits with humans, and their pregnancies were no exception. They lasted an average of forty weeks, a little more than nine months, and Liiza had just entered her fourth one.

The strange genes and interspecies nature could affect that timeline, but nothing had pointed in that direction yet. If things continued like that, Liiza only had a little over five months to go before giving birth.

The Nak’s home world was seven months away from Coravis, and that number relied on a fast ship flying in a straight line toward it. The necessity to stop at checkpoints promised to prolong the journey, meaning that Liiza would have to give birth mid-travel.

To make matters worse, the appointed checkpoints lacked specific equipment, and Liiza needed even better versions due to the union’s unique nature. That wasn’t the right environment for her pregnancy, so Khan didn’t hesitate for a second in making a firm decision.

The Nak had already taken too much from Khan, so he wouldn’t let them affect his family. Liiza and their child were the absolute priority, and Khan was ready to endure the nightmares for another century to keep them safe.

Unfortunately, Khan had made that decision in his mind. He didn’t even account for his wife, who promptly voiced very opposite intentions.

“We’ll depart as soon as we are done with this meeting,” Liiza announced. “Mister Bizelli, please prepare the ship and load it with basic supplies. I’ll do the inventory later.”

Liiza was still a stranger to Garret. She could technically order him around since her status surpassed his. Still, making decisions for Khan was a different matter altogether, especially when he looked completely against them.

Khan looked at Liiza, his eyes wide in slight anger and bottomless rejection. Liiza met that bright gaze, mustering a cold, immovable expression. The sea station finally experienced the violent side of those two mighty beings, and an earthquake spread.

“[We won’t],” Khan declared, switching to the Niqols language. “[I’m not putting you or our child at risk].”

“[We will],” Liiza scoffed. “[How do you expect me to sleep at your side when I know you are prolonging your suffering because of me]?”

“[I don’t care],” Khan stated, a faint thundering noise escaping his throat. “[There’s no reason to rush this now].”

“[You don’t see the reason],” Liiza pointed out, the metal under her feet freezing as her anger burst. “[You never see it when you choose to sacrifice yourself].”

“[That’s what I do],” Khan responded. “[That’s what a father does. That’s what my father did. Our child is the priority].”

“[That’s what my mother did, too],” Liiza rebuked. “[I know you haven’t forgotten].”

“[That just proves my point],” Khan snorted.

“[It doesn’t],” Liiza refused. “[We both protect our family, and you are mine].”

Khan couldn’t find a suitable reply. Liiza was partially correct. He was trying to take everything upon himself again, but that wasn’t up to him now. It was simply situational. Besides, Khan was prioritizing their child, but Liiza wasn’t having it.

“[Our child is strong],” Liiza proudly announced, stepping forward and shattering the ice around her feet. “[I can feel her warmth through my blood already. She is of chaos, ice, and horrors. A trip through space won’t harm her].”

Khan wasn’t in the mood to correct Liiza’s unfounded certainty of their child’s gender. Truth be told, he knew what she was talking about. The sensation was still faint, almost unnoticeable, but Liiza had indeed become warmer, and the source of that change was in her waist.

“[But if you do try to put me in a cage of safety],” Liiza continued, forcefully grabbing Khan’s right wrist, “[Remember that no one could ever keep me from running away].”

Liiza pulled Khan’s arm to make him lean forward so that she could whisper in his ear. “[And I’ll run directly to the Nak to make them pay for the pain they have inflicted on my husband and family].”

The chilling tone that entered Khan’s ear and the emotions seeping through the mental connection vouched for a simple, unmistakable truth. It was unclear whether Liiza could reach the Nak on her own, let alone do anything to them, but she would surely try to.

Liiza half-stepped back, showing a still-cold but also coyer face, which almost hinted at a plea. She had yet to release Khan’s wrist and pulled it again, placing his hand on her waist.

“[Our child is strong],” Liiza repeated. “[We’ll take Zalpa with us and do all the check-ups you deem necessary, but we have to go].”

The earthquake had kept raging through the sea station, but no panic had spread. The soldiers stationed there had long since gotten used to Khan’s shenanigans, so they knelt or curled on the floor, waiting for the tremors to subside, which they eventually did.

Khan heaved a helpless sigh. He looked at Liiza’s waist, lingering in its inspection for a few seconds before lifting his glowing gaze until he met the source of the white light he loved. Liiza nodded at him, reassuring him one more time and forcing him to give up on that argument.

“[He is strong],” Khan admitted, looking at Garret, who had remained on his feet throughout the tremors.

“Prepare the ship,” Khan ordered. “Prepare the labs, too. Also, tell everyone to clear their schedules. I want to make an announcement once I finish dealing with the Kros.”

“As you wish, My Prince,” Garret responded before pointing out a seemingly trivial detail. “Prince Thomas, Princess Rebecca, and Prince Alexander have already emptied their schedules to welcome you.”

“Not that everyone,” Khan corrected. “I mean, everyone, everyone, doesn’t matter if friend or foe.”
