Chaos Heir

Chapter 1362: Evolve

Chapter 1362: Evolve

Liiza’s ice was far from superficial. It didn’t merely affect matter. It stretched into ethereal, profound fields, making her able to touch intangible states of existence.

The Nak embodied the mana and were born and made of it. However, each member of that species wielded an individuality, a singular existence that Liiza could freeze.

Therefore, despite the more solid Nak losing its organs, tissues, and the very mana that made it, its existence continued to live, frozen in that ethereal, white status that only seemed to replicate what it once was, leaving it as a mere afterimage of its past self.

However, that enforced stillness wasn’t absolute. The Nak couldn’t move at all, but some of its functions remained active. Liiza had left its awareness intact to force it to experience that imprisonment for the entirety of its duration.

Death wasn’t the worst thing that could happen to a living being. Many fates were worse than that, and Khan believed that imprisonment worked as perfect proof, making him divert his gaze from the spinning sphere to inspect the scene.

Nevertheless, Khan didn’t study the frozen Nak even once. He felt no interest or pity toward the alien after what he had been forced to endure and after witnessing far worse iterations of his curse.

Instead, Khan’s entire attention went to his wife. He had been the target of her chilling moods multiple times, and her recent action proved how dangerous they were. A sane man would be scared witless at that confirmation, but Khan only experienced emotions at the very opposite end of that spectrum.

"[Did I ever tell you how sexy you are]?" Khan wondered, stopping relying on the Nak’s way of speaking, limiting himself to his wife’s native language.

Liiza snorted, ignoring the white afterimage frozen in that terrible state to approach Khan, her cold and aloof face showing the full extent of her annoyance.

Still, the gesture that followed was anything but cold and detached. Liiza stopped before Khan, completely ignoring the spinning sphere nearby, to place her palm at the center of his chest while her other hand went for his face.

Liiza didn’t say anything, but Khan understood her anyway. He had now reached the end of his journey, the final step in the curse that had driven most of his life. Except for the imprisoned alien, the Nak were also about to be virtually gone, making Liiza concerned about Khan’s mental state.

Khan would be lying if he said he was fine. He could joke around and play the fool, but no one in his shoes could possibly be okay.

The issue even went beyond the simple completion of the journey. Truth be told, the realization had yet to hit Khan and probably wouldn’t until he experienced a nightmare-less sleep, but there was far more to that conclusion, and much had nothing to do with him.

Khan believed he was correct in his evaluation. The mana and the Nak had already failed at evolving, creating the Scarlet Eyes in the process, making them unreliable. Their second attempt could fail just like the first did.

However, the mana’s wisdom and comprehension of that enemy were leagues beyond Khan’s. He was a singular existence that had yet to reach thirty years of life. Khan was incredible for his age, but remained incomparable to the actual mana.

No matter the previous failure, the mana remained more reliable than Khan, especially if he looked at the issue from a different perspective.

The mana saw the Scarlet Eyes as a failure, but they were also a success in what that energy had tried to do. The True Chaos was indeed an evolution, which simply happened not to match its creator’s standards.

Accepting the Nak’s offer would have most likely made Khan a match for the True Chaos’ God. Meanwhile, flying solo brought dangerous uncertainties. Khan might surpass the Scarlet Eyes just like he might remain weaker than them, dooming the universe as he knew it.

That brought a lot of pressure, an undeniable duty. Khan was now entirely responsible for the universe’s fate and would be the only one to blame for its possible demise.

Still, just like Khan couldn’t lie about a non-existent well-being, he also couldn’t betray his heart, especially when those cold hands rested on him and that white light shone on his face.

Even if it meant putting the universe at risk, giving it worse odds of survival, Khan wouldn’t give up on the happiness and love he had found after so many years of suffering. He also didn’t regret his decision ever once. There was only peace about that topic in his mind.

Khan remained silent but took the cold hands on him, moving them away to lean forward, reaching for Liiza’s lips. Her mouth broadened into a smile during the kiss, partially dispersing her worry. Still, she eventually pulled her face away, doing her best not to look too tempted during that solemn moment that could decide the universe’s fate.

"[Absorb this mana already]," Liiza whispered. "[I’ll jump on you as soon as you are done]."

Liiza didn’t give Khan a chance to reply. She clung to his hands as she stepped away, lightly pulling them before releasing them. The lip between her teeth vouched for her enjoyment of Khan’s intense and charmed stare, but she didn’t let that stop her.

Khan couldn’t help but smirk, but his figure began to rise, planning to start his usual mid-air training session. Yet, a frown appeared on his face when he saw Liiza sitting cross-legged on the azure ground, steadying her mind to make room for stern concentration.

"[What are you doing]?" Khan couldn’t help but ask once ice started spreading under Liiza’s sitting figure, covering the ground around her.

"[I told you]," Liiza reminded. "[We must evolve]."

The ice stopped spreading over the azure ground, only to rise into the air, pushing it away instead of freezing it. Soon, Liiza found herself frozen but active inside a pure, white, and half-transparent pillar, the mental connection conveying her complete and imperturbable focus.
