Chapter 117: Last Boss (1)

Chapter 117: Last Boss (1)

As the blinding light finally dissipated, it revealed the monstrous entity that had been imprisoned within the sphere of darkness. Emerging from the epicenter of the explosion was a creature of unparalleled horror—a Hydra.

The Hydra was a colossal beast, its sheer size dwarfing even the largest of the monsters that had besieged Bastion. Its serpentine body stretched out in all directions, a nightmarish tangle of sinewy, coiled serpents that writhed and twisted in an unholy dance of death.

Each of its heads was a grotesque abomination in its own right, resembling a viper of nightmare incarnate. Venomous fangs dripped with a sickly, greenish ichor that sizzled as it struck the ground, leaving acrid, smoking scars in its wake.

Its scales were an eerie shade of midnight black, seemingly absorbing all light and casting an aura of malevolence around it. These scales appeared to be nigh impervious to harm, shimmering with an otherworldly sheen that defied all attempts to pierce or break them.

The eyes of the Hydra burned with maleficent intelligence, a predatory awareness that belied the mere instincts of a wild beast. They glowed with an eerie, malevolent light, and their gaze seemed to pierce into the very souls of those who dared to look upon it.

With a hissing roar that shook the very earth, the Hydra rose to its full, towering height. It was a monstrous behemoth, an abhorrent fusion of primeval terror and unnatural power, a creature that had been bound for far too long and was now unleashed upon the world once more.

Colin and Jayce stood there, their hearts heavy with dread as they beheld the unleashed terror of the Hydra. Its emergence had shattered any illusions of victory or safety they had harbored.

Colin, usually grinning in the face of danger, found his trademark smile fading, replaced by a look of grim determination. He tightened his grip on his massive club, a weapon that had felled countless monsters, but now seemed puny in the face of this monstrosity.

Jayce’s face, too, was devoid of its usual composure. His icy eyes narrowed as he assessed the Hydra. A sense of responsibility weighed heavily upon him, knowing that it was his presence here that had likely triggered this calamity.

They exchanged a glance, wordlessly sharing their thoughts and fears. It was a moment of unspoken understanding, a silent agreement that they would stand and fight, no matter the odds. It was then that Jayce turned to face the members of his faction, seeing the mix of emotions in their eyes.

Most of them were wrought with fear, seeing the behemoth monstrosity that had appeared before them. Yet there were a few among them who seemed determined, ready to fight and struggle valiantly.

Zane, Amber, Jackie and Ben, they were the strongest in his faction apart from himself and Colin. Thankfully they were not caught up in their mourning and had chosen to stand strong together in the face of adversity.

Jayce called out their names, urging them to stand with him and Colin. He could already tell that they would need all the strength they could get if they wanted to have a chance at taking the big bastard down.

Before he could come up with a plan, the Hydra’s eight heads gazed in their direction, sending a feeling of dread and inferiority into the party. In one swift movement, it sent its gigantic tail whipping at them with titanic force, causing dust and rocks to be hurled upwards by the sheer force.

“Shit!” Almost everyone in the party cursed, quickly and inelegantly dodging the catastrophic attack that threatened to crush them to dust. Apart from Zane who had managed to look somewhat graceful thanks to his immense agility, the others threw themselves out of the way, uncaring of their image.

Before they had time to compose themselves, one of the Hydra heads had descended towards them, its eyes gleaming with malice. Opening its mouth, dreadful flames began to materialize, burning the oxygen in the surroundings and causing the air to crackle.

“To me!” Colin shouted, raising his shield with both hands and slamming it into the ground heavily. Jayce and the others quickly picked themselves up and ran towards the giant guardian, hiding behind him.

A wave of searing heat poured out onto the shield, showering the party with flames. The Hydra’s flames were bright red, a sign of high-tier magic, usually only available to players and monsters who had reached the third tier.

Jayce frowned, the revelation that the monster in front of them was at least at the 3rd tier was a real kick in the guts. Besides himself who had skipped 3 tiers and was now in the 4th, the others were only at the 2nd tier. This made things difficult.

The Hydra’s relentless assault continued unabated. As its fiery breath washed over Colin’s shield, intense heat seared through the cracks, and the air rippled with waves of scorching energy. Jayce, Zane, Jackie, and the others huddled behind Colin, feeling the intense heat pushing against the makeshift barrier.

Jayce’s analytical mind was racing, searching for a strategy to counter the monstrous beast before them. It was clear that their current tactics were insufficient. They needed a way to nullify its many heads and overwhelming power.

In the midst of the chaos, Ben’s voice cut through the turmoil. “We need a plan, and we need it fast,” he yelled over the roaring flames.

Jayce nodded, his eyes never leaving the Hydra. “Agreed. We can’t take it head-on. We need to exploit its weaknesses.”

The party members exchanged glances, their expressions a mixture of determination and fear. They knew that the fate of everyone here and in the city hung in the balance, and failure was not an option.

Colin, his shield still absorbing the fiery onslaught, spoke through gritted teeth. “I’ll draw its attention. You guys find an opening. When I signal, unleash everything you’ve got.”

With that, Colin pushed forward, his immense strength propelling him against the flames. The Hydra, its attention fixated on the giant, shifted its heads to focus on this new threat.

As Colin engaged the beast, its heads lunging and snapping at him, Jayce quickly formulated a plan. He turned to Jackie and Zane. “Jackie, Zane, I need you to target the Hydra’s eyes. If we blind its heads, we might have a chance.”

Jackie nodded, her magic already at the ready, while Zane drew his bow and notched an arrow, preparing to take aim.

Colin continued to wrestle with the Hydra, his movements like a force of nature. He knew that this was his role—to buy time for his companions to strike at the beast’s vulnerabilities.

With a powerful roar, Colin finally gave the signal, and the party sprang into action. Jackie channeled her ice magic, creating multiple ice lances, while Zane let his arrow fly, aiming for the Hydra’s unblinking eyes.
