Chapter 207: Building the Array
Jayce took a step back from the array that he had just drawn, wiping his brow out of habit. This was the part of the process that he was most concerned about, considering he had usually left it up to the mage pair of Jackie and Amber.
Not only that, he would have to draw the mana circle with his inner Qi. This method was untested, therefore he harbored some doubts. Fortunately, not only did he complete the process with ease, it was also done in half the time it usually took.
With the arduous part done, Jayce could now leisurely place the mana stones that he had collected from inside the tree.
His gaze moved around the surroundings, and he almost subconsciously shook his head in exasperation. Once Leah had announced to the townsfolk that Jayce was building a teleportation array, the whole town had come to witness the feat.
He couldn’t blame them, he had a similar reaction in his past life when finding out about teleportation arrays. Amongst the crowd was Leah, Lianna and Tony who were chatting away with each other.
Tony looked as if he could hardly contain his enthusiasm, bouncing around like a child who had consumed far too much sugar. His eyes met Jayce’s in passing, filling up with anticipation as he waited patiently for his new life in Bastion.
His eyes moved to Lianna, and his gaze subconsciously softened. There was no longer an awkward atmosphere between the two, nor were there any falsehoods. Their relationship had bloomed ever since their first kiss.
It was as if all their barriers had been lowered at that exact point in time, leading to an explicit and tender moment between the two. They were like two lost lambs who had found their solace in each other.
Jayce could feel his bodies response just by looking at her from afar. Accelerated heart rate, dry mouth and tiny butterflies fluttering in his stomach.
Leah suddenly turned around only to see Jayce’s glazed over puppy love eyes staring at her sister. She stifled a laugh before pulling Lianna in his direction.
“Okay okay, let’s get this show on the road. The quicker you get the array up and running, the sooner I can have a break from this lovey dovey atmosphere.”
Although she sounded genuine, Jayce could tell that she was a little reluctant to let Lianna leave so soon after reuniting. However, he knew that she was saying such things in order to make it easier for the both of them to leave.
Lianna’s face fell and she sent a few pokes to her sisters stomach in protest. “Don’t lie to me, you’re sad that we’ll be going.”
But in the next moment her face lit up, “But it’s okay. Once we get the array up and running, we’ll be able to visit each other every day almost!”
Leah blinked a few times, but eventually smiled after wiping the tears from the corner of her eyes. “Yeah, that would be nice.”
Jayce grabbed a bag and threw it towards Leah, causing her to let out a grunt and almost drop the thing. “Make yourself useful and place these stones on the array.” A cheeky grin formed on his face, almost making her let out a huff in response.
In reality she was thankful. The whole town had gathered, therefore she wouldn’t feel comfortable crying or showing deep emotion in front of them all. Giving her a menial task like this would be enough to allow her to compartmentalize and compose herself.
Jayce gave a playful nudge to Lianna with his shoulder, before wrapping an arm around her waist. “How about you, how are you feeling?”
She let out a warm smile and rested her head on his shoulder. “Even though we had a few hiccups… I think this was the best holiday I’ve ever had.” Her words were soft, yet they brought a smile to his face.
He resisted the urge to call her out on the use of the word hiccup. The two girls were possessed by Dryads and their souls were almost burnt to a crisp afterwards. To call that a mere hiccup would be an understatement.
At the same time, he could understand what she meant. Not only had they located her sister, they had also discovered the Laws and potentially a way to fight back against the machinations of the Apocalypse.
Well it was probably not correct to call it an Apocalypse anymore, considering they now knew that the Earth was in the midst of evolving to a higher plain of existence. Either way, he was quite pleased with the haul of this trip.
However, the thing he was probably most pleased about, was the woman who was now firmly in his embrace. Jayce lent down and planted a kiss on the top of her head, his gaze filled with satisfaction.
In the next moment, he felt something hit the back of his head, startling him.
He turned around in one fluid motion, only to see Leah with a playful smirk on her face. “So you’re just gonna kiss and cuddle while you let a lady do all the work?”
Jayce let out a laugh, “Alright alright. Tony, give her a hand.”
With that, he pulled Lianna into an embrace once more and poked his tongue out in Leah’s direction shamelessly. All Leah could do was blink a few times, mystified at the man’s attitude.
“Yes Chef!” Tony who was like a ball of energy, quickly ran over and began placing the stones into the correct positions. It was as if he could not wait another moment to leave this place and start his new life.
Lianna struggled to hold her laughter in, seeing such a funny expression on her sisters face. She too was a little surprised at Jayce’s shamelessness, yet she did not mind it.
Her impression of Jayce over the past year had grown to such a point where she easily trusted him with her life. However, she felt that he took on everyone’s burden upon his shoulders.
She constantly saw him with a serious expression, or deep in thought. Therefore, seeing this playful and childish side of Jayce filled her with Glee. It was as if he had finally let go of some tremendous pressure.
“I’m done Chef!” Tony stood at attention, his brow laden with sweat.
“Let’s head back home.” Jayce said with a grin.
