Chapter 227: Summit Feast
Later that night, Jayce and few of the Hell’s Kitchen members were embroiled in preparations for the feast that they had promised at the closing of the Summit.
Due to the scale of the feast, Jayce had decided to use a similar setup to the one he hosted when first arriving into Bastion. Thankfully though, he did not have to prepare this one alone for a class upgrade quest.
So the whole Hell’s Kitchen main party including Tony handled the cooking and serving throughout the night. The atmosphere was relaxed with hints of excitement mixed amongst it.
Once the food had been served, the crew left their post and decided to mix in with the crowd. These people were now all part of the Human Alliance, so it was in their best interest to get to know them.
Jayce finally got the chance to leave the kitchen, wiping the sweat off his brow with a tea towel which had become a habit of his.
“Jayce, you’re a hard man to get a hold of alone.”
A confident voice rang out behind him, causing his ears to perk up and his gaze to shift. Standing a few feet away with his hands in his pocket and a hood covering most of his features, the man looked like someone you wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley.
Yet Jayce could easily tell his identity.
“Victor, to what do I owe the pleasure?” he said with a small smile.
“Heh. I thought we could have a chat. Alone.” Victor said flatly, not beating around the bush.
A frown formed on Jayce’s face involuntarily. For some reason or another, he felt wary of the person in front of him. Perhaps it was because he knew what the man was capable of, even though he was confident in beating him if it came to a fight.
He quickly hid the frown, and smiled, “Sure. Follow me.”
The two managed to slip away from the feast, finding a back alley. Jayce could sense that there was no one in the vicinity, so he turned around and faced the man who gave him such an uneasy feeling.
“What is it you wanted to talk about?”
Victor stopped in place and removed his hands from his pockets, reaching up towards his hood and pulled it back slowly, revealing his face.
Usually it would be hard to see his face in such lighting, however with Jayce’s heightened senses he was able to see every pore on the man’s face.
He was rather handsome, with thick eyebrows and hazel eyes. Victor sported a short beard with hints of red around his chin. There was a long scar which went from his left temple straight to his jaw, giving him a fierce look.
Jayce gazed upon the face for a moment, as if he was combing his memories thoroughly. He stared at the scar that seemed to pop out of his skin, focusing his attention deeply.
Voidwalker saw this action yet he did not mind, he watched on with an indifferent expression on his face.
“That scar… You’re not really Voidwalker are you.” Jayce asked, his face turning up in a frown. He was confused, why would someone impersonate Victor, even luring him out to this place with no one around.
It would make sense if the man in front of him was stronger than him, or if he was surrounded by enemies. However, this man alone stood indifferently in front of him as if he was enough.
“Oho? You’re very perceptive.” The man’s indifferent face turned into a grin, causing the scar on the side of his face to contort.
“What is it that you want?” Jayce replied, feeling a sense of anxiety grip his bones.
“Hahaha. I just need to keep you occupied for a while.”
“Just you?” Jayce rolled his neck from side to side, letting out a few cracking noises. His face had now turned serious, staring at the man with ill intent.
“Ooo scary!” The shivered involuntarily at his sharp gaze, before letting out a laugh.
“I guess there was a reason why they only told me to distract you for a while instead of kill you.”
It was then that Jayce heard a scream, followed by the sounds of destruction from not far away, causing his gaze to shoot towards the sound.
“Shit.” He cursed under his breath, ignoring the man in front of him and blitzing towards the sound of the disturbance.
However, after he moved a few feet he was met with a force field, causing him to stagger backwards after making contact. It was similar to the one he had experienced in the tunnels under the world tree, yet it felt many times stronger.
After regaining his footing, Jayce’s gaze snapped back to the man who had been standing in place, a scary expression on his face.
“Hey hey, no need to be too upset. I just need you to stay here for a couple of hours while we do some cleaning up.” The man raised his hands in surrender, yet there was a malicious grin on his face as he said these words.
Without thinking too much, Jayce threw out a punch towards the barrier, using around half of his strength to test it out. As he expected, despite his humongous increase in power, it did not budge.
“Ah, I wouldn’t waste your energy if I were you. This prison was a gift from them after all.”
“Them?”
“Oops. Me and my big mouth.” The man covered his mouth with both hands, admonishing himself for his slip.
Jayce’s mind raced, however it was hard to think with the constant sounds of battle within his earshot.
“Well, it’s been nice keeping you company. But I should probably go and join in otherwise I’ll get scolded.”
With that, the man who had been impersonating Victor turned around and walked back to where they had come from, leaving Jayce alone within his prison.
