Chapter 239: Meeting by the Fire
By the time Jayce had finished explaining what he could to Lianna, he was dead tired. Thankfully she had calmed down enough to listen to what he had to say.
Jayce laid back on the bed and let out an exhausted sigh. He turned his head to the side and spotted Lianna fast asleep next to him. She too had been quite busy over the past week with the summit, not to mention all of the healing she administered in the aftermath of the attack.
His features softened as he saw her beautiful sleeping figure. He leaned down and gave her a kiss on the shoulder before bringing the blankets up further and covering her properly.
It should be around 3am right now, which meant he only had a few hours to get some sleep. Originally he had planned to sneak a peak at the contents of the spatial ring before resting, but it was far too late now.
Covering himself with the blanket, Jayce’s thoughts drifted to thoughts of the future. Soon enough he found himself embroiled in fantastical dreams of flying around the Earth with his friends.

Within a frozen landscape filled with pure white snow and bare trees with their twigs exposed, there were 3 people who trudged along silently. They battled their way through the knee-high soft snow.
One of the men was carrying an unconscious figure underneath his arm with little care. Her feet dragged along the snow, leaving a long trail for all to see. However these three did not seem to care, focused on reaching their destination.
Soon enough, they arrived at a town that was doused in white. The buildings were rough but looked like they had been built to withstand the climate with relative ease.
Reaching a house on the outskirts the men didn’t bother knocking, opening the door and heading inside hastily to escape the cold.
“Leave your shoes and coat at the door.”
A deep voice entered their ears, causing them to pause before quickly doing as they were told. The tone gave no opening for disobedience, almost compelling them to comply.
Once the crew had disrobed and left their icy coats at the door, they headed into the hearth were there was a fireplace. Their initial instinct was to go straight to the fireplace to try and warm up, yet they knew better.
It wouldn’t be good if they pissed off the man who had been waiting for them all this time.
Within the hearth there were a few couches with blankets adorning them, placed around the cozy room. It would have been an inviting sight were it not for the man sitting with his legs crossed on one of the larger couches.
The man was draped in warm wolf fur and wore a beanie over his head. While the wolf fur gave him a domineering look similar to a viking, the red beanie ruined it completely.
It was almost as if he was a cosplayer who was on his way to a convention, not yet fully in his costume. Despite this, the three men still stood respectfully in front of this figure, awaiting his orders.
“How did it go?”
The man raised his gaze toward the three, his eyes stopping on the unconscious body of the woman in front of him.
Now that he had his head raised, the first thing that came into view was the black bushy beard which fully covered the lower half of his face. His had a pronounced brow and thick flat nose.
If a boxing coach were to be nearby, they would praise his face as perfect. It was as if his face was made to be punched.
“Reporting to Leader, everything went as planned. We killed more than half of the participants of the feast with the formation flags. We also managed to capture Let Me Cook’s woman.”
The man with the scar seemed to have the most seniority out of the three as he gave his report to the man upon the couch. He gestured to the other man holding the woman, urging him to bring her forward.
He did as he was told, bringing the unconscious figure and setting her down in front of the Leader gently. The woman was pale and had blue lips, probably from trudging through the snow without any warm gear on.
“Mmm you did well. Put her in front of the fire for now, she’s useless to us dead.” The leader responded, rising to his feet.
His shoulders were wide and he had a stocky build, yet his stature left some things to be desired. Seeing that he had stood up, the three men quickly knelt down on one knee out of sheer panic.
The leader seemed not to notice his men’s sudden movement, acting as if everything was how it should be. He walked over to the scarred man and addressed him.
“If I remember correctly, I sent 5 of you to complete the task. Where are the other 2?” His deep voice caused the scarred man to tremble before raising his head.
Despite being on his knees, his leaders height was only about a head taller than his crouched position. The reason he had knelt down in the first place was because the man in front of him hated being looked down upon.
Unfortunately for him, standing at a generous 5 feet tall it was almost impossible to avoid. Therefore he simply maimed and scarred those who dared not to kneel in his presence.
The scar upon his own face was a result of his prior infringements.
“L-Leader, it was Let Me Cook… He got out of the prison that you gave me.” The scarred man stammered, feeling a cold sweat form on his back.
The Leader frowned for a moment, causing his beard to raise slightly in response.
“That should be impossible. I was assured that he would not be able to escape before it wore off in 2 hours.” He mused, staring at the scarred man’s face for a while.
