Chapter 94: Event Quest

Jayce once again met with Dion and Kane the next day. Whilst they still showed some signs of fatigue, it was a lot less than the previous day. “I trust everyone had a good rest?” Dion spoke, his tone a little weird.

Instantly feeling wary, Jayce looked at Kane as if asking for any explanation. However Kane merely shrugged, unsure of what Dion’s issue was.

“Ahem. Before getting into my bath last night, I noticed that my head was… how should I say this. More reflective than usual.” His eyes narrowed, gauging the reactions of the two in front of him.

“Mmmph” Kane’s hands flung up to his mouth in a desperate attempt to cover the laugh that threatened to escape.

Jayce on the other hand, held a stoic face, as if his features were carved from stone. Yet it could be seen that he was trying to hold it together with monumental effort and determination. He could not even open his mouth to respond, focusing all of his attention on keeping a straight face.

Dion’s eyes narrowed further, seeing the odd reactions of the two. He let out a sigh, “You see, I was just trying to ask what type of oil the culprit used. It seemed a lot more effective than the moisturizer that I regularly use.

Jayce’s eyes widened in disbelief. ’This guy actually liked his shiny head?’ he contemplated for a few moments before opening his mouth slightly. “E-Extra virgin olive oil.”

Dion’s eyes opened slightly at the answer, nodding slowly. “Ah, so it was Olive oil. Good. Very Good.” His eye began to twitch as he slowly accessed his inventory, pulling out his Warhammer and brandishing it.

“W-Wait, what are you doing?” Jayce stammered, seeing the dark expression on the man’s face. “I thought you said you liked your shiny head?”

Dion’s countenance turned ferocious at the term “shiny head”. He stared at Jayce with murder in his eyes, “I wonder how shiny your head will be after I hit it with my hammer a few times.” he spat out venomously.

Jayce suddenly felt a shiver run up his spine, “Hey, no need to get upset. I was just teaching you a lesson for sleeping on the job.” he explained, backing away slightly.

“Y-Yeah it’s no big deal right Dion?” Kane also felt a bout of danger from the ferocious man in front of him, so he tried to become the mediator.

Seemingly not hearing the words of the frightened duo in front of him, Dion inched closer, his hands gripping the large Warhammer tightly. His bald head gleamed with cold malice, causing the two to back up with dread.

It was then that Colin burst through the door, “Leader, we have a situation.” The atmosphere was broken by the disturbance, causing all three men to look over.

As if Colin’s words were an announcement, Jayce suddenly received a notification pop up.

[Event Quest: Stop the Beast Tide]

In the wake of the Cataclysm, the land has become a breeding ground for unfathomable horrors. Thanks to the early completion of the World Quest, the Beast Tide has yet to reach its full potential. However, it is still a formidable, nightmarish force that threatens to engulf all in its path.

Stand as Bastion’s last line of defense against the merciless horde of monsters. The fate of the city and its residents rests upon your shoulders. Should you fail, the Beast Tide will be free to continue to ravage the continent.

Quest Objectives:

Monster Slaughter: Defeat a minimum of 10,000 monsters. The tide is numerous, and your relentless assault must thin their ranks.

Boss Takedowns: Confront and eliminate at least 5 boss monsters, each more formidable than the last. Their defeat will demoralize the enemy forces.

Survivor’s Guilt: Ensure that over half of your forces, at the very least, survive the onslaught. Protect your comrades and shield them from the relentless fury of the tide.

Bastion’s Last Stand: Do not let the Beast Tide breach the city walls. Bastion must remain unscathed, a beacon of hope in this desolate world.

Rewards:

Your rewards are contingent upon the successful completion of the objectives.

Jayce quickly read the quest that had popped up, his expression easing a little, it was as he expected. After completing the World Quest in under a month, he had forced the Beast Tide to be released sooner than in his past life. Thankfully, it looked like it had decreased the overall size of the Tide.

That wasn’t to say that 10,000 monsters was a small number, quite the opposite. However, if he compared it to what he had heard in his previous life, they were worlds apart.

He looked over at Dion who currently had his brows furrowed and flashed him a questioning look. Had he also gotten a quest? Considering they were both supporters, it would make a lot of sense.

Dion finally met his gaze, before nodding. Without another word, Jayce turned to Colin and asked, “What’s the situation? Has the Beast Tide arrived?”

Colin nodded, “Yes, although it looks to be just the advanced party. But they’re acting a bit weird. We thought they would charge at the gates the moment they saw us, but they’re just gathering at the back of the plains.”

Jayce frowned in response. “It looks like it is as I feared. Someone, or something is controlling the Beast Tide…” He looked between the other three in the room before giving an order. “Keep an eye on them, we need to prepare the residents to defend.”

“Kane, Dion. If you haven’t already, it’s time to tell the residents about what is coming. We need to set up the army and ensure that the City Walls are completely reinforced.”

“We haven’t had an official announcement, but I’m pretty sure most of the residents should know what’s happening by now.” Kane said in response.

“Well we should still have another day or two until the rest of the Beast Tide assembles. Make it count.” Jayce said grimly. With that, he made his way out of the office, he wanted to gather his own party and ensure they were all aware of their own duties.
