Cornered by the CEO

Chapter 125: A Matter of Principle

Chapter 125: A Matter of Principle

Li Jun sighed and made a show of frustration. "Someone sued my client, Yun Qian Meng, for attempted murder," he admitted.

There was silence on the other side.

"I have heard about the raucous in the media. It had rolled that far? I saw the video, the owner wasn't near the car at the time… neither was anyone else. And you're telling me that someone from my firm took this case and sued the CEO of Venus?"

This was the reaction Li Jun wanted. This Senior was an executive partner and had equity in the company. If Li Jun got the message across that someone was playing the wrong cards under the company's nose, he would get an easy withdrawal of FIR in no time.

Company pressure was a huge thing.

"It's someone called Jiang Hanyu. He seems to be an assistant lawyer in your firm."

"Are you sure?" the other asked after a pause.

"Yes, I am holding the paper with his signature on it. He sent it with your company's stationery, too. That's why I was wondering if you knew anything about this guy."

This little boy had been gutsy, taking on a case against an influential billionaire. Talk about thinking highly of himself.

"He is a new recruit. Fresh out of his probation. We hired him right out of law school because he was the gold medallist." The other heaved a sigh. "I know nothing about filing a lawsuit, Li Jun, I am sorry. Such a huge case would be spoken about among the partners if we had known. Jiang Hanyu isn't allowed to take these decisions. An executive partner needs to sign off on these cases and I know he hasn't asked anyone because I have no idea someone from my company was suing your client."

"Oh, it seems I have called in poor taste," Li Jun acted like he was regretful.

"No, no! You have helped us. If word gets out, the company's reputation will be in ruin. God knows what else he will do. Using the stationary and not following protocol is a gross misdemeanor. He'll be faced with the consequences." The gruff tone of the other told Li Jun that he had hit the jackpot. His job was done.

"Please don't do it for me!" he countered.

"It's a matter of principle. We're lawyers. If we can't take care of being lawful, who will come to us?" the senior sounded beyond angry. "Li Jun, do me a favor. Please send over a copy of the documentation he sent you to me. You can go ahead with fighting and settling the case. We'll take disciplinary action against him in our own time."

Li Jun pretended to hesitate. "Okay, Senior. I'm sorry again."

They made some small talk before Li Jun said goodbye and hung up.

He looked down at the paper in his hand and smirked. No, this wasn't just about winning a big case. It was about teaching a newbie a lesson. Rules are made for a reason and when you disrespect and take advantage of your position for personal benefit, you receive punishment.

It was a matter of principle.

Next, he picked up the cell phone and called Jiang Hanyu.

"Hello, who is this?" Jiang Hanyu sounded like he had been bothered by the call.

"This is Li Jun, Miss Yun's legal representative speaking," he said calmly. "The detective responsible for the case you filed against my client gave me your contact information so that we could talk about settlement."

Li Jun heard the younger man suck in a breath. He knew this to be surprise at getting an offer for settlement so quickly. He hadn't thought it was possible.

"Yes, this is Jiang Hanyu speaking. Please tell me your conditions and timings for the meeting so that I can inform my client as well," he agreed keenly.

Li Jun chuckled. "I've already spoken to my client and she wishes to send out a press release regarding her side of the story with the claims and the charges she will be making against Bai Ye Qing, your client. The release will go out three in the afternoon tomorrow. Ask your client when he wants to meet to discuss the settlement. We'll not wait for a long time for your answer."

"Mr. Li, what does that mean? Are you threatening my client to take action?" he squeaked.

Li Jun huffed. "You're still wet behind the ears, child. If I was threatening you, I would tell you that if you don't drop the charges, I will tell the whole world what a disgusting piece of shit your client is. I'll dig out every dick pic he sent and every uncomfortable conversation he had with women and paint a beautiful picture of him to the world. That is a threat. I am simply telling you the plans of my client and I am waiting for your response."

"I—I—" Jiang Hanyu stammered.

"I'll take that as you understanding the situation. It's getting late. Call your client and respond to my offer."

With that, Li Jun hung up the call.

He forwarded the email through which Yun Qian Meng was served the papers and attached the files for evidence. He pressed send and smiled.

His cell phone pinged with a message and he saw that his Senior had texted him, saying that he would handle the matter personally and requesting Li Jun not to speak about the matter to anyone.

He assured of the same and went back to work.

"Miss Yun, I am going to send you tentative timings for the settlement meeting when the other lawyer responds. Please keep your schedule free tomorrow morning," he said quickly.

"At least greet me properly. I've been having a very bad week," Yun Qian Meng swore as she chucked her car keys on the table.

"Not my problems, Miss Yun. I'm just doing the job you pay me to do."

Yun Qian Meng groaned. "I'll add to your work in a few days," she admitted.
