283 A favor?
Hearing Alex’s words, emperor Qikath laughed bitterly before gulping down his wine.
“Religion is for the weak. It has always been unfortunate that there are too many weak people out there and only a few are truly strong. For the sake of the weak, we must play the roles of Gods” Emperor Qikath said with a bitter smile.
He understood what Alex was trying to say as he too was forced into the same situation as Alex. There were just too many people who needed something they could pray to and have their prayers responded to in a way. He had to step up and become the sea god his people needed.
“Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done about it. Mortals unable to face the realities of life are forced to retreat and create an imaginary beings with crazy backgrounds and wild stories... A being who can move mountains and perform miracles... They become so immersed in their lies that they believe them to be true. This is all because they can not face the realities of life. They find it hard to admit that they are fucked and no one can save them. They find it hard to accept that they must walk through the difficulties of life alone so they choose to cling to something that isn’t there for comfort... False hope is better than none” Alex said with a bitter smile as he drank another mouthful of wine.
“I guess the role of God we have chosen to play was forced upon us.... To think someone who deeply understands my thoughts would exist but on another planet” Emperor Qikath laughed in hopes of brightening up the mood.
Guessing his intentions, Alex revealed a bright smile as he leaned back.
“I guess finding true friends anywhere in the world is possible” Alex laughed calmly and the emperor laughed as well.
“So tell me... what are our chances of winning this war if it happens?” Emperor Qikath asked with a smile.
“I’m not sure... so far I’m yet to see the enemy’s trump cards but I’m quite confident in my abilities, so I guess the fact I’m involved in this war gives me a thirty percent chance of winning” Alex said with a calm look.
.....
“Oooh?” Emperor Qikath was genuinely stunned by Alex’s evaluation. Many people would lie to improve the chances of getting them on their side but Alex seemed more down to earth but cocky at the same time.
It was a unique combination.
“I also have an old friend joining. Back in my days on my planet, we faced all kinds of enemies together... Even though our relationship is not as good as it used to be, he is still the most capable person I have come across. So he brings another twenty percent... So it’s safe to say with both of us leading this battle, we already have a fifty percent chance of victory.” Alex said calmly as the image of Silver surfaced in his mind.
“This friend of yours, how strong is he?” Emperor Qikath was genuinely interested in this person Alex held in high regard.
“I don’t really know... that’s the problem. I can’t tell...” Alex answered honestly with a bitter smile.
If someone were to tell him to gauge Silver’s strength he wouldn’t be able to do that effectively. There were just too many secrets revolving around his old partner and that’s what led to their fall out.
“If he were the one that invaded my planet, who would have won?” Emperor Qikath asked with an interested look on his face.
“You would be dead by now, alongside more than half of this world’s population...” Alex said without hesitation.
The speed of the reply and the confidence in Alex’s eyes frightened Emperor Qikath. Alex had no reason to lie, and if he said this mysterious friend of his is capable of killing him, he had no choice but to believe.
“Back then we were called the invincible duo. But I am the good one. He is far more vicious, cunning and cruel than I am. I’m just stronger” Alex shrugged his shoulders as he spoke.
The thought of Silver even gave him chills, talk less of people weaker than him.
“You claimed you can’t gauge his strength yet you seem very sure you are the stronger one?” Emperor Qikath asked.
“Of course, I am the absolute. I have never lost to him and I will never lose to someone like him” Alex said with a frown.
Hearing his words the entire room fell silent. They could feel the rage and anger hidden within his words, making them emperor wonder how bad their relationship must be now.
“Don’t worry... we both have something to protect, you can say we both want to protect the same thing... our fate is a bit complicated. So until we defeat this threat, we will not point our blades at each other.” Alex said with a smile.
“Can I ask what that thing is?” Emperor Qikath couldn’t help but ask.
Alex seemed to hesitate a bit but after a few seconds of silence he finally spoke up.
“My son... His nephew”
Buzzz!
Everyone looked towards Alex with shocked looks on their faces. Their eyes instinctively shifted to Sharyn who was sitting beside him but Alex quickly snapped his fingers, drawing back their attention.
“It’s not her...” Alex said calmly.
“I see...” Emperor Qikath finally said with a sigh as he leaned back and pondered on Alex’s words in silence and after a while, he looked towards Alex again with a hint of hesitation in his eyes.
“Don’t worry, from the moment we came here and you turned nice overnight I knew it was because you needed my help with something.... Since you will be risking your life and that of your people in this war, it wouldn’t hurt if I lend you a hand with whatever issue you have” Alex said.
His words seemed to have hit the spot where it hurt the most, making emperor Qikath frown. He tried very well to hide his intentions from Alex from the beginning yet he failed.
