Chapter 4467: First Heartbreak?
"What do you want?"
"Chyka, I have so many things to ask-like why you have accepted the marriage with that trash, but I won’t bother. However, you said we could share a future together. Was that a lie?"
Azariel’s gaze shook. Today, if his father hadn’t urged him, would he have come here today?
He might’ve known this from hearsay the next day, but he would still have some faith in her- that her family had forced her. However, no such thing happened. He felt this to be atrocious.
"Arron..." Chyka softly said, "I didn’t lie. I really did think we could share a future when we adventured together, hunted down bandits, and found treasures. I loved our time together. But ultimately, I’m the third daughter of the Vulkan Family. I also have to make a decision based on what’s good for my family. I simply can’t afford to wait for you to make it big."
"Nonsense." Azariel clenched his fists, "I told you I’m from a rich family secretly."
Chyka’s sharp brows narrowed, "Now that’s a bold-faced lie, Arron. If you were rich, why is there a need to hide it? Just say you’re an orphan and a rogue cultivator who is doing his best to survive and become strong, and I’ll still respect you. But you claim you’re rich when you couldn’t even afford me a meal at that famous restaurant two months ago? How shameless."
"You-"
Azariel barely raised his hand, wanting to explain that he was also testing her sincerity just like she was, but Chyka instantly took out a protective talisman.
"Don’t move. If you threaten me, I’ll have no choice but to call the guards, but I’d rather not since I have a reputation to maintain, unlike you, who can come and go anywhere as you please."
Chyka trembled, her eyes tearing up, "Arron, I’m sorry it has come to this, but this is my decision. I’m Duga Gavain’s fiance from this moment forth. You don’t need to accept it, but stop bothering me from now on, please..."
She broke down, slumping lightly before she regained balance in a wobbly manner.
"Good... Good..."
Azariel lowered his hand as he nodded, coldly chuckling.
"I didn’t expect you to be so decisive while you took your time with me for half a year. Wealth could really change everything, huh?"
"..." Chyka shook her head, tears running down her face.
But in Azariel’s gaze, her actions meant otherwise.
"From now on, I, Azariel Davis, will never bother you. You can live your life happily as you wish."
He waved his hand before he turned around and left. He couldn’t just jump outside since there were detection formations, but he could just walk out the entrance.
Azariel just left, not waiting for his father as though he had almost forgotten he was there or didn’t care at the moment.
In the air, Davis looked at the two of them.
Chyka broke down crying in her room, while Azariel obviously didn’t feel good about this matter. He felt like he had caused a disaster, so he couldn’t help but check their karmic thread and saw that it wasn’t the fated red thread, which made him sigh in relief.
’Which means this is merely... the so-called canon event that nearly every young man goes through?’ Davis wondered.
He glanced at Chyka, unable to forgive her for hurting his son, but he didn’t think of punishing her since they had their choices to make. He respected that. Besides, it seemed like she really did like Azariel because he could feel the hurt she felt after Azariel decisively left her.
Did she think he would fight for her? He shook his head.
His first son might be highly interested in women but he was no tail wagger.
Davis followed after his son silently, who then later sat down on a mountain peak as he looked at the sunset. Davis was worried that his son would take some drastic measures on the girl, but as expected, he knew how to control himself despite the vengeful inclination of his bloodline. They did teach their sons how to treat women and what to expect from them the same way they taught their daughters how to treat men and what to expect from them.
There was no inequality in that.
Azariel seemed to be regulating his emotions, his breathing rhythmic.
Davis gave him some to think before he appeared beside him.
Azariel reacted with a forced smile, "Sorry about that, father. You’ve seen an embarrassing Chapter of my life."
"I could argue that I’d seen plenty of times where you embarrassed yourself, including pissing yourself."
"Jeez, you’re gonna bring stuff from back when I was a baby?" Azariel scoffed.
However, he smiled as he felt the tension in his body release.
Davis patted his shoulder, "Well, relationships are like that, hard to predict where it will go with so many obstacles ahead. That girl prioritized her birth family, which is not wrong, but as a man, you need to find someone who will prioritize you no matter what."
Azariel smiled wryly, "Our relationship barely lasted for six months. We just held hands and nothing more, so I don’t feel that it’s too much of a loss. However, I did think she was different from the other women who speak with me for my status and influence, but it turns out that she was no different or perhaps forced by circumstances."
"Reality is like that. One can have morals and values, but everyone is going to have to bend those eventually when reality hits. It is harder to protect them than your own life. It’s fine. I know how you feel... It’s fine to cry when you lose something that you thought was important..."
Davis comforted him as he pressed on his shoulder.
"The rumored Heart Intent... you’re really so annoying, father..."
Azariel hid his face with his hands. His shoulders trembled, but ultimately, he didn’t cry. But when he opened his eyes, his eyes were red a bit.
"I imagined a life with her, thought of introducing her to mother and you, but it seems like that could no longer be achieved. Well, I should’ve known when I let her know I cultivated poison energy last month. I should’ve known it was over by that time."
Azariel shrugged his father’s hold and stretched, exhaling a long breath and smiling at the sunset.
Davis’s brows raised. That girl didn’t shame Azariel for using poison energy, or was she afraid that he would poison her before leaving? Judging by the way she pulled out the protective talisman, he guessed it was the latter.
But he mused that was also understandable.
No one sane would want to marry a poison cultivator. If it weren’t for that, Evelynn wouldn’t be so afraid that she might be abandoned by him back then when he encouraged her to practice Poison Laws. She might’ve even thought it was a way to get rid of her later on, feeding into her insecurities back then.
Nonetheless, the same could be said about marrying into a Divergent family.
He couldn’t help but sigh secretly. His children were fighting a losing battle, but he didn’t recommend hiding things from their potential spouses.
If they wanted to leave after knowing the truth, then he could do nothing to stop them since the fault would lie on the Davis family’s side.
"Heh! Don’t worry, you will reach heights unobtainable by her. If wealth and security were what she was looking for on top of a worthy husband, then she lost all of them badly."
Davis patted Azariel again to cheer him up.
"Ridiculous." Azariel chuckled, "Our family is like the most risky family to ever marry into. Haha!"
"Brat, you even dropped your full name like you’re flexing. You really don’t care about the consequences of your next adventures, huh? Hahaha"
Davis also burst laughing.
The two of them appeared like they were having a good time together. Using this chance, Davis wanted to advise him.
