Chapter 505: Black Moon Child

Over a thousand members of the White Robe Sword Sect would perish?

That was indeed a terrifying Demon Summoning ritual, meaning that those disciples from the Demon Sect’s Inn intended to lure over the individuals from the White Robe Sword Sect and then annihilate these upright sword masters completely.

The Summoning Demon Sect’s malice was also quite intense. It seemed that after obtaining such power, they indeed wanted to conquer a piece of heaven and earth for themselves, even if it meant making enemies of the Four Major Sect Clans!

“Who is it that I’m supposed to save, and why is he the only one who can summon Immortal Ghosts?” Zhu Minglang asked.

“In some more isolated rural areas, the people fear the gods and often offer boy and girl sacrifices to the River God and Mountain God, in exchange for what they believe to be favorable weather conditions,” Ye Youying explained.

“Hmm, such things are not uncommon,” Zhu Minglang nodded in agreement.

Not only in isolated areas, but even in places where cultures mingled, such ignorant acts occurred. Of course, there were indeed some powerful acts of Sorcery in this world that could be gained through such cruel means.

For reputable sects, such Evil Arts were absolutely forbidden, and once discovered, they would spare no effort to eradicate them.

“Immortal Ghosts originate from this. Faith, reverence, fear—once a child is sacrificed, their pure soul turns into a vast grievance under that specific ritual, eventually transforming into a ghost. Since their power originates from faith and worship, they are half gods, half ghosts,” Ye Youying provided Zhu Minglang with a detailed explanation.

“So in the end, it’s the hatred of those sacrificed children that transforms?” Zhu Minglang said, somewhat surprised.

“Yes,” Ye Youying nodded.

“So the person I’m supposed to save is a child, who is currently in the Demon Sect’s Inn, intended to be sacrificed to that Ground Immortal Ghost?” Zhu Minglang inquired.

“Children born during the Black Moon are actually quite special; they can see the souls of those sacrificed children, the Immortal Ghosts, and even communicate with them. Similarly, if these children are taken as sacrifices, it results in the addition of another Immortal Ghost to this world,” Ye Youying continued.

Zhu Minglang inwardly marveled upon hearing this.

So it turned out that the Immortal Ghosts were the result of the ignorant actions of the common folk.

The people from the Summoning Demon Sect had discovered this, and thus employed some methods to summon these Immortal Ghosts, using them to fight against major powers.

“Black Moon Child, alright, I’ll rescue the person,” Zhu Minglang declared.

Whether it was to further understand the secrets of these Immortal Ghosts or to prevent the massacre of the White Robe Sword Sect, Zhu Minglang had to first find the so-called Black Moon Child.

The people from the White Robe Sword Sect were indeed moving in force, completely unaware of the Ground Immortal Ghost lurking beneath the land.

Since Immortal Ghosts were born from the resentment of sacrificed children, they were undoubtedly cruel and bloodthirsty, harboring intense hatred towards humans. After becoming false deities, their behavior became even more brutal and terrifying.

Zhu Minglang chose for the time being to believe everything Ye Youying had told him. He made his way to the Demon Sect’s Inn and discovered that the inn was next to a much larger mountain lake. The mountain’s reflection in the lake, the solitary inn standing taller than the surrounding trees, and a row of blood-red lanterns hanging along the mountain path—even in daylight—gave off a sinister and odd sensation.

At first glance, the inn beside the mountain lake seemed unremarkable. After all, there were no towns nearby, and travelers journeying along the long terrains would inevitably need a place to rest; the inn was clearly in business for those making long journeys.

However, today there were hardly any travelers on the mountain, and the entire inn was desolate with few visitors. Yet oddly enough, the inn’s staff were bustling about as if arranging some festive occasion.

They slaughtered chickens and sheep, hung lanterns high, and the kitchen’s fires were blazing. The chimney never stopped emitting cooking smoke, and from time to time, one could hear shouts and singing imbued with a strong local flavor — completely unintelligible as to what they were singing about!

“Is your Summoning Demon Sect celebrating the New Year?” Zhu Minglang asked.

“They’re imitating folk rituals,” Ye Youying replied.

“Oh, so they’re setting the mood for inviting the gods, right?” Zhu Minglang said.

“Like I said, they worship Immortal Ghosts. Whatever the Immortal Ghosts like, they do. River Immortal Ghosts, for instance, have a particular fondness for children. They wouldn’t hesitate to steal children from farmers to feed to the River Immortal Ghosts,” Ye Youying said.

It was clear that Ye Youying also despised the possessed members of the Summoning Demon Sect to an extreme extent.

As he was observing, suddenly from the other side of the inn came several screams, followed by shouts and the sound of fighting.

Had the people of the White Robe Sword Sect come to blows with those from the Summoning Demon Sect? How come they’re all so hot-tempered!

Before Zhu Minglang could observe for too long, the two powers had already begun clashing. One could see figures in white moving through the forests surrounding the inn, and there was a group of white-clad Sword Masters by the lake. Their cultivation base was indeed formidable as they walked on the water’s surface, swords in hand, approaching the inn!!

In the lake, the water suddenly churned as one after another Red-Scaled Lake Monster broke the surface. They weren’t of a tremendous size but stood upright like humans, each with three heads and six arms, wielding ferocious weapons made of rusty fish bones!!

Clearly, these were the Demon Guards summoned by the Summoning Demon Sect. They were numerous, like a school of carp in a lake, forming walls of Demon Guards to protect the Demon Sect’s Inn.

Their roars were like those of raging boars, and their bodies were covered with sharp scales and spiny bones. The red scales were like military helmets and iron armor; even the heavy swords of the white-clad swordsmen might not harm them.

There were many disciples from the White Robe Sword Sect, but at most, one disciple could only fight one of these water Demon Guards alone. One more, and a disciple would be overwhelmed, even facing the risk of losing their life!

Members of the White Robe Sword Sect attacked the Demon Sect’s Inn from three directions.

This small inn seemed like an endless tower, from which various Demonic Beasts emerged. Some in groups seemed to live in the mountain caverns, while others were fierce and powerful, their strength and Sorcery no less than that of True Dragons!

The battle erupted directly, creating a scene of utter chaos. Zhu Minglang couldn’t even find the two Deacons he knew, Zhong Lin and Ming Xiu…

However, it was easy to distinguish the two sides. Everyone from the White Robe Sword Sect was dressed in white.

Members of the Summoning Demon Sect were clothed in red and yellow to mimic folk rituals. Although their numbers were not as great as those of the White Robe Sword Sect, they leveraged the Demon Summoning Technique to assemble a vast army of demonic creatures, fighting bitterly against the Sword Masters of the White Robe Sword Sect outside the mountain lake inn.

“Zheng Mei is here, all members of the Summoning Demon Sect come out and meet your death!” At that moment, the Master flew on her sword into the sky, shouting loudly at the peculiar inn!

Zhu Minglang had some admiration for this Master, who dared to venture alone into the heart of the Demon Sect’s Inn.

Perfect, with her drawing the attention of the Demon Sect’s experts, it should be easier for him to infiltrate.
