“There’s no need for any investigations though? What’s there to investigate?”, Wu Long shrugged his shoulders, causing both Chen Hui and the captain of the City Watch to turn rather doubtful eyes to Lu Mang’s face and clothes covered in dust.

“Hm? What? Do you expect me to contradict the esteemed Master Wu? Who am I to do that? Hahaha, Master Wu is always right! Of course nothing worth investigating happened…”, Lu Mang made round – as far as it was possible in his current state – eyes, and spoke in a bewildered way with raised shoulders, as if shocked that they would even suspect something happened here.

Chen Hui then turned to the nobleman and his bodyguard, both of whom just silently cupped their fists in a shallow bow, as if to say they had nothing to add.

“Heh, so be it then”, Chen Hui snorted, and turned back to Wu Long, his eyes slightly shifting between him and subservient-looking Lu Mang, “It seems you’ve made a new friend here, you never cease to surprise, Master Wu”

“You know me, Captain Chen, I am a friendly, peaceful man so it is easy to make friends for me”, Wu Long smiled, earning a look of bewilderment from Lu Mang, which instantly changed to enthusiastic nodding, and a look of severe doubt from Chen Hui.

Wu Long then turned to the guilty trio, “Finish up here and report when I get back”, and then to Butler Bang, “Escort everyone back safely and ensure no one disturbs their stay”

The four bowed with cupped fists toward Wu Long, retreating to the warehouse to act on his orders.

“Hahaha, I will gladly assist the Sup-… khm, your men Master Wu in wrapping things up here, I know these Docks like the back of my hand”, Lu Mang made a subservient smile, lowering his posture.

“I’ll count on you for that then, we’ll talk about everything else after”, Wu Long chuckled, and then turning to Chen Hui, added, pointing to the nobleman with open palm “Although there’s nothing to investigate, it seems this gentleman here and his associate have lost their way around these places. I’m sure the gentlemen of the City Watch have places to be and peace to enforce, so would you mind lending a couple of your men to help escort the man? I’m sure he would be very grateful”

An instant understanding flashed in Chen Hui’s eyes, and he smiled, “Of course, Master Wu. City Watch is always busy so we’ll not burden them with this any longer”, and then turning back to his men, “You two, escort the gentleman”

“Yes, captain”, two of the mounted Imperial Guards spoke, turning their mounts to move toward the nobleman and the bodyguard.

“…Much obliged”, the nobleman had no other choice but to bow with cupped fist.

The City Watch captain was also seemingly quick on the uptake, noticing that the nobleman and Lu Mang were no longer on the same side, as well as the shifting situation with the Imperial Guards being involved, cupping his fist with a bow as well, “We are grateful for your generosity and thoughtfulness, Captain Chen. We shall take our leave to perform our duties then”

Receiving a nod from Chen Hui, the City Watch captain made a salute with a fist to the breastplate of his armor and the phrase “For the glory of the Wei Dynasty!”, actions repeated by his men, and receiving the more subdued version from Chen Hui, turned his people around, leaving first, followed by the nobleman and his bodyguard escorted by two Imperial Guards.

Chen Hui followed both groups leaving the place with his eyes for a few moments, and turned to Wu Long, “Now, I suppose you will take His Highness’s invitation?”

“Of course, lead the way”, Wu Long nodded with a smile and placing both hands behind his back in a relaxed pose, floated into the air just about a meter up, his robes very subtly fluttering, and then as the Imperial Guards started moving, moved along with them, matching their pace.

“…I won’t be able to close my eyes too many times, Master Wu”, Chen Hui very carefully noted.

“I don’t expect you to”, Wu Long shrugged, his leisurely attitude showing he was not really worried about becoming at odds with Chen Hui, not even because of being confident, but believing there would not be too many situations for the Imperial Guard to fret over, “I am thankful for this one though”

“Heh, it’s a minor thing, no one will miss that man, nor his bodyguard… in fact you’ll be doing the city a favor”, Chen Hui shrugged his shoulders with a rather cold expression, as his subordinates suddenly realized they were not talking about how the situation got resolved before, but about something that had yet to happen. However, true to their training and long years of experience in the Imperial Guard Corps, this moment was quietly suppressed into the deepest recesses of their memories, never to be sought out again.
