When Wu Long came back to the Soft Meadow Continent, he was greeted by his beauties as always.
It would still take a week or two for the preparations to be complete, so he did not necessarily had to hurry, but he would rather spend more time with his beauties than use it up on traveling at a normal speed away from them.
After greeting everyone, Wu Long approached Gong Liwei again.
“I have completed the technique, Liwei”, he smiled.
Her eyes lit up with surprise, excitement and gratitude at the same time as she smiled and rushed to hug him.
It took him some time because of the complexity of using an ancient technique as a base, but he was able to finally complete Gong Liwei’s personal technique that he was constantly working on the whole time since he made a decision to create it, while he was traveling back. After all, there wasn’t much that he needed to think about while traveling at high speeds.
“We still have to test a few things and make adjustments-…”, he didn’t finish as she leaned to kiss him, expressing her joy and excitement.
He smiled, answering her kiss.
The technique which did not yet have a name, was incredibly complex, hard to not only learn, but also requiring great proficiency in use to be able to obtain any meaningful results, so she would not be able to use it anytime soon, and even after she was able to, it would require considerable amount of practice to implement in practical situations.
Not to mention, as Wu Long said, it would likely require adjustments which would only become apparent when it was actually being learned and used.
However, Gong Liwei was ready, as she knew she would need to work hard anyway. Instead, it was far more pleasant putting in that hard work to learn a technique her beloved man made specifically for her.
After the small welcome-back banquet, they spend the evening together, as he was soaking in the feeling of being surrounded by his ladies and enjoying the moment with them.
—
The night fell over the large lake, with a giant ship anchored deep into the lake waters, the silhouettes of its towers lit by the bright light of the moon with no clouds to cover it.
The lake waters were quiet, like the surface of a mirror, and with no clouds in the skies, and nothing moving on the hills surrounding the visible lake shore, the world seemed to be completely still, like an incredibly detailed picture.
A lone figure was walking on the top corridor of the central tower, the only movement amid this stillness.
Cao Xiang’s delicate fingers lightly traced the hand railings as she slowly walked, seemingly deep in thought, the sound of her hills on the wooden floor sounding especially loud in the silence.
Left here with no one aboard, the ship seemed to be sleeping.
And then, she felt a familiar presence. Warm, precious, and beloved presence that could only belong to one man.
Her lips curled up as she turned to look down onto the upper deck of the ship, where Wu Long smiled back at her, and in the next moment, he stepped onto the wooden railing not far from her and then lightly landed on the floor.
She turned to him, coming closer and his arms wrapped around her.
“Thank you”, she said in a half-whisper, compelled by the silence, or the magic of this quiet moment to lower her voice.
“If I knew you would be this happy I would’ve hurried to make it happen sooner”, he smiled, matching her volume of voice.
She shook her head with a wry smile, knowing he wasn’t just joking and leaned onto his chest, closing her eyes as he slightly tightened his embrace and lowered his head to put his cheek on top of her head.
“Care to join me for a drink?”, she then asked, and he chuckled, feeling slightly nostalgic.
“You really think there’s a possibility I’ll refuse?”, he said as he let go of her, but not completely as he caught her hand with his.
She smiled, and led him toward the room they once drank wine in when they were not yet in a relationship.
She pushed the same window open, and he sat at the same small table as back then, in the same place while she went toward the same cabinet, opening it.
“You kept some here?”, he raised his eyebrows, since there were still three porcelain jars in the cabinet, even though the whole room was mostly empty of her personal belongings.
“Since it was in Sister Baihu’s realm, I thought it was fine to leave it here as a small hidden stash”, she chuckled, taking one of the jars and placing it on the small table, taking out two wine cups out of her Spatial Ring.
“An excellent decision”, he chuckled, opening up the wine and causing its fruity aroma to spread.
“Brings back memories”, Cao Xiang said as she looked at him in the moonlight coming through the open window.
“Of you trying to kiss me when you got drunk a bit?”, he smiled.
“What do you-…”, she raised her eyebrows, and then blushed with an exclamation of realization, “Ah! T-that’s…!”
Wu Long laughed seeing how bashful she became, even though they have done far more than that since.
She covered her face with both hands, trying to hide, but feeling his hand gently moving her hand aside, peeked at him.
“I… I just felt so comforted… i-it’s your fault for being so…”, she spoke, still slightly flustered.
“It was cute”, he smiled, his gaze looking into her eyes as he gently cupped her cheek and then caressed it with his thumb.
There was still no judgment in his eyes, just like back then. And she knew he only brought it up because he wanted to tease her a bit.
Her blush intensified, but now not because of embarrassment.
He then poured the wine for both of them, both savoring it this time along with a peaceful and quiet conversation.
She told him a bit about her late dear friend, the queen of the Liugwei Kingdom, and about her memories of first visiting this ship in secret. Back then, the queen also brought a bit of wine, though it was normal wine that Mortals drank, to split with Cao Xiang while venting some frustrations about her husband, the king.
Since then it became a place where the two women regularly came to have a drink without having to care about court etiquette.
“But those memories and all the time I spent aboard this ship is not the only sentimental value… that night as well… the night that we split a jar of wine here with you, and when I almost kissed you… it became another reason to cherish it, along with all the memories we made here with you and my Dao Sisters after that”, Cao Xiang added with cheeks rosy from liquor, and stood up, swaying a bit.
He lightly caught her, and as she looked up at him, she smiled, a light giggle escaping her lips, “Hehehe, a second attempt”
And then she leaned forward to kiss him, but this time it was successful, as he leaned in to kiss her as well.
