Chapter 1692: Chapter 1691: It’s Settled Like That

Duan Tian tasted Qiao Xiaomai’s cooking for the first time and was utterly amazed.

He had long heard about Qiao Xiaomai’s many legendary deeds in Daqi. Previously, he thought the messengers were exaggerating, but now that he had actually tasted Qiao Xiaomai’s creations, he realized the messengers had been far too modest. If he were the one spreading the word, he would have used the most beautiful language in the world to praise Qiao Xiaomai.

He finally understood why Bei Yun had gone through so much trouble to bring Qiao Xiaomai here. She was a walking treasure chest.

Bei Yun alone was worth a thousand troops, and now, with a treasure chest in tow, Duan Tian was confident his endeavor had a nine-out-of-ten chance of success.

In high spirits, Duan Tian readily agreed to Qiao Xiaomai’s requests. Wasn’t it just about making money? Since Qiao Xiaomai enjoyed the thrill of earning wealth, he would happily indulge her.

“Miss Qiao, rest assured, after the meal, I will inform the kings of Longshi Country, Yuchi Country, and Taian Country. If any of them wish to taste your culinary skills, they are welcome to seek you out. Don’t worry, all the ingredients you use will be provided to you free of charge, and all the silver you earn will be yours to keep. How does that sound?”

Qiao Xiaomai’s expression remained indifferent. “Then I’ll trouble you, Master Duan.”

“It’s my duty, my duty. Miss Qiao, you are a guest here, and as your host, it’s only right that I take good care of you.” Duan Tian waved his hand and smiled warmly. Off to the side, Bei Yun clicked his tongue twice and remarked, “Qiao Xiaomai, you truly are a treasure that everyone loves!”

Hearing this, Qiao Xiaomai felt a chill run down her spine. She rubbed her arms and glared at Bei Yun. “You, buying a jar of Floral Dew for three hundred taels silver—fine—but since Master Duan has offered me such favorable terms, everything he eats from now on will be free.”

At this point, Qiao Xiaomai had completely adjusted her mindset. Instead of wasting energy lamenting her situation or missing Tong Sanlang, she might as well focus on earning silver. After all, she had her personal storage space—she’d stash all the silver she earned in the warehouse for now, and when it was time to leave, she’d pack everything into her space.

So even though she was currently a hostage, her main objective was to make as much money as possible. Since Master Duan was offering her preferential treatment, she naturally reciprocated with the same.

Master Duan gave her face; she couldn’t not return the gesture, could she?

However, her goodwill toward Master Duan clearly came at the expense of Bei Yun. Bei Yun clicked his tongue again and said, “I have no money. All my bills go to Master Duan.”

Duan Tian chuckled and replied, “Miss Qiao, whatever the divine doctor wants, make it for him. I’ll cover all the expenses.”

Hearing this, Qiao Xiaomai narrowed her eyes slightly and asked, “How much silver does the Duan family have in storage?”

Having his capability questioned, Duan Tian quickly reassured her, “Miss Qiao, don’t worry. I can certainly afford both my and Divine Doctor Bei’s bills.”

Qiao Xiaomai turned her gaze to Bei Yun and asked, “Have you told Master Duan the prices of the items I sold in the Capital City?”

Before Bei Yun could respond, Duan Tian interjected, “I’ve heard about it, I’ve heard. Miss Qiao, I even have a ledger of everything you sold in the Capital City.”

Hearing this, Qiao Xiaomai replied with a long “Ohhh.” “Since Master Duan has done his homework, I have no concerns. May I use that storage room in my courtyard as a warehouse for silver going forward?”

“Of course, Miss Qiao. It is your courtyard; you may store whatever you wish there,” Duan Tian replied with a hearty smile.

And so, the meal concluded in a harmonious and congenial atmosphere.
