The sound of a bell rang, the door to King’s room opened, and then King himself emerged, walking mechanically in one direction.
To avoid trouble, Chu Tang did not reveal himself but followed discreetly from the shadows.
A patrolling guard approached, bowing respectfully, “Your Highness, it’s so late. Where are you going?”
King “looked” at the guard, “I’m going to check the dungeon. Don’t follow me; continue your patrol. There have been villains attempting to break into the King’s mansion to rescue someone recently. Stay alert.”
“Yes, Your Highness,” the guard bowed, affirming his orders.
King continued forward.
Just past a corridor corner, a coquettish voice called out, “Your Highness, are you heading to my room?”
Chu Tang felt a shiver at the voice, which was too whiny for his liking. He rubbed his arms in discomfort.
King pushed away the concubine and kept walking.
Not willing to let go so easily, the concubine grasped King’s arm tightly, trying to drag him into her room, calling out for her maid, “Xiao Zhou, quick, help me.”
Chu Tang sighed inwardly; were all the women in the back King’s mansion this desperate?
