Farming Life in Another World

Chapter 881: Preparations for Spring

Shirukine-san has visited the Big Tree Village a few times before, though not frequently.

Once a year, if that.

She seems quite busy managing her territory.

However, lately, she’s been coming almost daily.

She said it’s for mental recuperation.

No, it’s not a bother or anything.

It’s just… the angel(Malbit) responsible for her mental strain, is here as well. Is that alright?

Ah, your granddaughter Fracia is here too.

And you’re also here to explain how to use your cosmetic products to the villagers?

I see.

Due to the negotiations regarding the breeding of Mereos, some of the cosmetics sold by Shirukine-san’s company have been transferred to Big Tree Village.

So, Shirukine-san herself kindly came in person to explain them.

Much appreciated.

Hmm?

Not a part of the exchange, but Malbit seems to be trying to recruit the caretaker of the Mereos that Shirukine-san brought along, and she wants me to stop her?

Apparently, that caretaker took Malbit down with a flying knee strike, so she’s earned her admiration.

Malbit is surprisingly a martial art person.

Alright, alright.

I doubt she can be so easily recruited, but I’ll keep Malbit in check.

Besides, Fracia has arrived.

It’s a result of her education.

She used to call Shirukine-san “Granny Shir”, but now it’s “Shirukine-oneesama”.

Well, let’s not nitpick.

Demons’ appearance and age don’t always match, after all.

Beezel, watching from the shadows, went from “Gramps Beezel” to “Grandfather Beezel”, and he looks a bit disappointed.

The Mereo from Village Four is being transported to the Mereos breeding grounds in Beezel’s territory.

The devil girl who raised the Mereo in Village Four agreed to let it be taken outside the village for a month.

Her only conditions were that he’ll be returned, and that she would like at least one child, to which Shirukine-san readily agreed.

Then came the question of how to transport it.

Initially, we leaned toward carrying them by dragon, but the Mereo was unwilling to ride on a dragon’s back.

Well, it can’t be helped.

Even if it was raised in captivity, it still can’t overcome its fear of dragons.

Not that it’s anything to fear, really.

To avoid unnecessary stress, we decided to use the universal ship for transport.

I thought Loo had promised Dors not to take the ship out of the Forest of Death, but that was only about its construction.

In fact, there’s no issue with using it wherever we need.

It’s just that if we flaunted it outside, people would start clamoring for us to build more, so we simply kept it within the forest.

Dors understands this, so we won’t get scolded for using it outside.

Even if there were a promise not to take it out of the forest, there’s always a loophole.

The Forest of Death’s boundaries are quite vague, after all.

If we temporarily designated our destination as part of the Forest of Death, it wouldn’t technically break the promise.

However, this approach would just anger Dors.

Such sophistry isn’t even worth considering.

Promises should be kept sincerely.

The ancient devils working for Dors and the others also advised us to act with integrity.

And I believe that’s the right thing to do.

Now, Village Four will be isolated while the ship is away, but we can communicate via the castle’s communication system.

I’m talking about the video communication they used when Village Four arrived.

Though communication can only be initiated from Village Four, it somehow allows two-way conversations once connected.

With that link established, we can rely on the dragons to handle the transportation of supplies.

We decided it would be manageable, even with the universal ship gone for a while.

As for those transport duties assigned to the dragons—

At first, I thought of asking Hakuren or Rasuti, but Hiichirou volunteered, so I left it to him.

Raimeiren will supervise, and Guraru will accompany him.

There shouldn’t be any danger.

Hiichiro is fully motivated.

……

The problem is whether there will be any transport to be done.

We’ve already transported more than enough before the universal ship departs, so unless there’s an unexpected turn of events, Village Four likely won’t need more supplies.

Even if there’s produce to carry from Village Four, the ship should be back by then…

Maybe I should arrange a transport job to keep him busy, just to be safe.

I’ll discuss it with Raimeiren.

Spring is almost here!

Spring!

Fufufu.

It’s the season for the AFT to shine!

I can hardly wait!

As for spring preparations, we’re always prepared, so there’s no need to rush.

However, there’s one important event this spring.

A wedding and reception.

Not mine.

It’s Metora’s wedding and reception.

Metora, who has been looking after Ursa, Alfred, and Tiselle, is an impure dragon.

She married her fiancé this winter.

At least that’s the report I received.

So, I consulted with Dors and the others, and we sent her congratulatory words and gifts.

That’s why, when I heard there’d be a wedding and reception now, I thought the timing was a bit off, but apparently, Ursa and the others encouraged her to hold one.

It seems that after initially holding a small, private wedding and reception, troubles began cropping up one after another.

Not bloodshed or anything, just… romantic entanglements, I suppose.

To put it simply, there were apparently quite a few men in the Demon King’s Army who secretly admired Metora, the one looking after Ursa and the others.

When they heard she got married, they wanted to know: who’s her partner?

What’s he like?

Is he strong?

Several skirmishes ensued as some challenged Metora’s husband to duels.

I wondered what connection they’d have to the Demon King’s Army, but when I thought about it, Ursa and the others spend a lot of time with Glatts, the Demon King’s Army leader.

So it makes sense they’d cross paths with Metora.

Incidentally, Metora’s husband is also an impure dragon, but he fought in human form and won the duels without issue.

Metora even sent a report full of endearments, saying, “My husband is just amazing,” which isn’t something she’d normally say.

The report has a strangely heroic tone, making me wonder if she embellished it a bit, though the young scribes in the village seem to enjoy it.

I see.

Even an ordinary love story has its appeal.

I’ll ask Michael-san to bring in some books like that.

Regardless of content, it’s good to have more books in the village.

Back to the story.

Another problem arose with four other male impure dragons who came, concerned about Metora’s husband.

Though their issues were resolved, their wives then came to Metora.

And they said…

「Who the heck beat the pulp out my husband!?」

「Explanations are unnecessary. Let’s settle this with fists. 」

「EH? Dandaji? Dandaji got married? No way! 」

「Perfect! I can finally settle old grudges! But congratulations on the wedding! 」

Four one-on-one fights took place.

In dragon form.

The details were ascertained in a simple report from Metora’s now husband.

Yes, well… to put it simply, “I was terrified”.

The fact he didn’t flee says a lot; he put in a good effort.

Even if he only stayed because his legs gave out and he couldn’t move…

……..

This trouble here has nothing to do with Metora’s marriage, right?

-0-

In any case.

Ursa and the others want to properly spread the word about Metora’s marriage to minimize further issues.

I believe the trouble with the impure dragons ends with those four, but given the wild days when she was still called Dandaji in the past, it wouldn’t be surprising if there’s more.

Apparently, there are still impure dragons furious that she found happiness for herself while they still aren’t.

To calm them, they want to hold the wedding and reception in the Big Tree Village.

After all, Dragon King Dors and Dark Dragon Girar are here.

If the marriage is acknowledged by those two, no one will dare object.

As for me, since Metora has taken care of Ursa and the others, I’m fully willing to help.

So, I’ll cover the expenses for the wedding and reception here in the village.

It’s the least I can do.

And everyone in the Big Tree Village is pitching in too.

That said, what we’re doing here is our usual banquet.

The women of the village are preparing various things to give it more of a wedding feel, and the Oni maids are testing out some extravagant dishes.

The prototype wedding cake has the Fairy Queen and children thrilled.

I don’t mind if they taste it now, but the same cake will be served on the big day.

Won’t they get tired of it?

They claim the flavor will be even better on the day.

I get it, but I wish they wouldn’t say that out loud around the Oni maids.

See, they’re fired up now.

Metora’s wedding and reception will be held not only in the Big Tree Village but also grandly celebrated at the base village where Tiselle is building a nation and in the capital.

That’s what I heard in Ursa’s letter, as part of their plan to introduce Metora’s husband and prevent any trouble.

That makes sense.

Knowing that Metora’s husband is an impure dragon should discourage challengers.

Hmm?

Also, it seems Tiselle will announce the name and representative of the nation she’s building.

Oh, it’s been decided, has it?

But using the wedding and reception as a stage—is that really okay?

If Metora and her husband are fine with it, then it’s all good.

I’ll just check to make sure they weren’t pressured into it.
