First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 1870: The Sword of the Nine Hells’ TransformationDeep within the tribulation clouds, heaven and earth were as dark as an eternal night.
The Sovereign of Sin and the other old monsters quivered from head to toe, perhaps due to excessive nerves, or perhaps due to sheer horror. Their hearts shook.
This calamitous grand tribulation was so terrifying that even the gods themselves appeared within it!!
All of them were Great Profound experts who’d proven their Daos in the Primeval Era, but they’d never even heard of a tribulation like this, let alone seen one.
Practically instinctively, the Sovereign of Sin blurted, “No one beneath the god level could possibly overcome this tribulation. He’s doomed!”
He spoke with incontrovertible force, as if it were perfectly obvious.
The other old monsters shivered. Although they were overcome with horror, they couldn’t help but feel excited and eager, too.
It was true. Such a calamitous and grand tribulation was enough to kill anyone beneath the god level. No matter how heaven-defying Su Yi was, there was no way he’d survive this. There was no need for them to flee, nor was there any point in fighting. They just had to sit back and watch as Su Yi perished beneath his tribulation. Then, they’d be free to leave!
“‘No one beneath the god level could possibly overcome this tribulation?’” Su Yi stood beneath the dome of heaven, laughed, and sighed. “You’re not wrong, because this cultivation isn’t targeting my cultivation base. Rather, it’s… targeting me.”
He glanced down at the old monsters in the bronze hall and said, “Don’t you think the so-called gods are a bit shameless?”The listeners' jaws dropped.
During the Primeval Era, all of them had been emissaries of Divine Venerate Tian Huang. They were naturally keenly aware of how lofty and powerful the gods were. They were also well aware that blasphemers met with painful ends!
“I suppose not. You were once their dogs. You naturally don’t realize how shameful it is for a group of gods to join forces against an Immortal King like me,” Su Yi whispered to himself.
He looked back into the tribulation clouds. This tribulation was even more terrifying than past ones. They were still separated by an endless expanse of time and space, but he could dimly discern the gods’ features and attire!
That aside, the divine tribulation was full of taboo power, terrifying almost beyond imagination. This was many times more terrifying than the tribulation Wang Ye faced as an Immortal King attempting to break into the Great Realm. He didn’t even need to think to know that this tribulation was targeting him, or that the gods peering down from across space and time were all but certain to interfere!
Su Yi hadn’t forgotten what happened when he broke into the Miracle Realm in the Corpse-Strewn Ruins, atop the Lifeless Mountain. The gods had appeared across time and space then, too. The young Daoist seated on a wooden sword had even attacked across time and space in an attempt to seize the Sword of the Nine Hells!
“Su Yi, you’re blaspheming against the gods! You’ll perish beneath this tribulation beyond a doubt!” bellowed the Sovereign of Sin.
Su Yi’s composure made him extraordinarily uncomfortable, and the gods reflected deep within the tribulation clouds left all of the old monsters terrified and ill at ease.
Yet Su Yi, the one about to undergo tribulation, was more than just calm. He even mocked the gods for their shameless behavior. The contrast was jarring and uncomfortable.
Su Yi laughed. “I will have to disappoint you. This tribulation cannot kill me.”
Boom!!
His voice had only just rang out when the long-silent divine tribulation suddenly rumbled and boomed. In that moment, countless cracks appeared in the dome of heaven, and all of Spiritual Desolation Mountain shook violently. Spiritual ripples surged through the formerly tranquil skies.
Streaks of murky gray tribulation light visible to the naked eye danced about the depths of the tribulation clouds. The calamitous aura intensified, becoming all the more explosive.
Thud!
A Great Profound expert fell to the ground, so scared that his knees turned to jelly. The others quivered too, their faces pallid. It wasn’t that they were cowardly, but that the imposing might of heaven was overwhelmingly terrifying. It suppressed and assailed even their hearts and souls. They almost couldn’t take it!
Were any other Immortals here in their stead, they’d likely have long since fainted from sheer fright. It was even entirely possible that their minds would have broken down completely, ruined forever!
Su Yi chuckled derisively.
A moment later, he threw back his head, faced the heavens, and laughed uproariously, free, unrestrained, and contemptuous!
A Dao Sword silently rose out of him and soared into the air, straight into the heart of the tribulation clouds gathered beneath the firmament. Sword force instantly filled everything on all sides, connecting heaven and earth. The calamitous aura enveloping heaven and earth instantly crumbled like rotten wood and dissipated with a bang.
That unparalleled sword force shook the dense layers of tribulation clouds covering the firmament. Countless massive rifts formed and spread like spiderwebs.
The Sovereign of Sin and the other old monsters stood there, tongue-tied and dazed.
What kind of sword was this? All it did was fly into the sky, yet its sword force filled the entire area, shaking the tribulation clouds on all sides!!
None of them could see the sword clearly. It was too mysterious, and it was swathed in boundless, ethereal light. All they could see was indescribable, unsurpassed momentum!
They felt much like an ordinary mortal might trying to gaze directly into the blazing sun. Who could withstand that? And who could see the sun’s true appearance clearly?
Using their divine senses was even more impossible. That unparalleled sword force would shatter it in an instant, badly damaging their souls!
Boom!
That mysterious sword leaped into the firmament, and wherever its edge pointed, tribulation clouds churned and broke. A rain of light fell, like the river of stars pouring down onto the world below.
Deep within the clouds, across an endless distance of time and space, the grand and terrifying gods finally took action!
The young Daoist leaped into the air, gripped his wooden sword, and charged explosively. Sword qi shot across time and space, shattering countless barriers between worlds.
The Vermillion Bird carrying a goddess beat its wings, and a sea of flame swept across time and space, burning every barrier in its path and scattering countless resplendent divine flames.
A thin man threw back his head and roared, holding an entire starry domain aloft as he charged. The countless stars moved with him, crushing one spacetime barrier after another.
A three-headed, six-armed monk shifted on his feet, then expanded until he was one million feet tall. His head was crowned by stars, while his feet were supported by an ocean of blood and a mountain of corpses. His entire body shone with Immeasurable light, illuminating both time and space.
The monk carried a grand and holy Buddhist kingdom in the palm of his hand. Countless Buddhas, bodhisattvas, arhats, and novice monks chanted sutras, and the sound of Sanskrit chanting resounded throughout all worlds!
The entire kingdom was supported on the palm of the gaunt monk’s hand. It wasn’t even remotely comparable in size to his massive frame. He stood amidst the void, so enormous that he filled in the gaps between the stars!
The other gods displayed their abilities too. All of them attacked at once, crossing endless space and time to hurtle toward Su Yi.
It was like a scroll painting, a vision of gods marching into battle. And their goal was to seize the sword rising into the tribulation clouds!
The Sovereign of Sin and the others were completely overcome with fright. Their minds went blank, and they could no longer see or hear anything at all. Their six senses had been completely severed!
Su Yi silently narrowed his eyes, and a thought rose unbidden to the forefront of his mind. There’s no doubt about it. The gods have been eyeing me for a long time, and they knew I’d need the Sword of the Nine Hells’ help to prove my Dao and undergo tribulation!
Last time, only the young Daoist attacked.
This time, all of them attacked at once. They had just two simple goals.
First, to seize the Sword of the Nine Hells.
Second, to make him fail his tribulation!
Boom!
Deep within the tribulation clouds, across an endless expanse of time and space, the gods drew closer and closer. It seemed they were trying to force their way into the time and space of the Immortal Realm. Seeing this put immense pressure on even Su Yi. He practically felt suffocated.
His heart was as clear as ice, but even so, he felt an instinctual thrill of terror, as if sharp knives were piercing his skin. His entire body went taut.
Too terrifying!
Despite the spacetime barriers separating them, and despite standing in a different epoch altogether, Su Yi dared say with certainty that even a wisp of the gods’ auras would be enough to destroy him!
A powerful fury and unwillingness coursed through his heart. His gaze frosted over, and he stared intently at the gods. As they approached, their appearances were increasingly clear, and he committed every detail to memory, from their features and attire to their auras and even their treasures.
Clang——!!
Meanwhile, the Sword of the Nine Hells seemed to sense the impending danger. A sudden sword hum rang out, the sound like the first parting of primordial chaos. Then, something happened that Su Yi had never seen before.
An illusory figure rose from the blade!
He was dressed in old, worn-out Daoist robes, and his hair was tied into a loose topknot. He was as tall and elegant as an ancient pine rooted in a cliffside, and he emanated a dazzling, dreamlike rain of light.
He and the Sword of the Nine Hells were both at the heart of the tribulation, and he was facing away from the people below, so they couldn’t see his face. But his aura was terrifying to the extreme!
He was like an unparalleled divine sword standing proudly beneath the blue dome of heaven, slicing through the endless darkness to illuminate the nine heavens and the ten earths!
Who’s that? Su Yi’s heart shook.
Before he could wrap his head around it, that tall, graceful man in dark robes swung his sleeve, and the Sword of the Nine Hells whooshed into the endless starry void.
Boom!!
Su Yi felt a piercing pain in his eyes, and his soul trembled as seemingly indestructible sword qi soared into the heart of the tribulation clouds.
The young man with the wooden sword fell endlessly far away. He was visibly overcome with shock and fury.
The Vermillion Bird beating its wings amidst an endless sea of flame let out an agonized wail, and it fled like mad, carrying the woman on its back away. Fresh blood poured down the bird’s body like lava.
The endless starry domain cracked and split. Countless stars exploded with a bang. The man holding it aloft let out a muffled grunt and retreated to the far end of time and space.
But the gaunt, million-foot-tall monk suffered the heaviest blow. A massive chasm tore open in the sea of blood and mountain of corpses beneath his feet. The Buddhist kingdom in the palm of his hand was struck as well; the chanting Buddhas, bodhisattvas, arhats, and novice monks disappeared in a puff of smoke.
The giant monk retreated without hesitation, instantly shrinking to a fraction of his size. He then transformed into a speck of Buddhist light no larger than a dust mote and fled.
The other gods also fled in panic, one after another!
This slash reached across an endless expanse of time and space, and its sword qi forced even the gods to retreat!
Only the boundless hum of the Sword of the Nine Hells still echoed throughout heaven and earth.
Its majesty was enough to suppress a sky full of gods and Buddhas!
