Three figures stood atop a mountain adorned with cliffside springs, waterfalls, and a churning sea of clouds.
A Buddhist monk, a Daoist, and a woman.
A snow-white jade disc hovered in the air, reflecting everything that happened at the Immortal Peach Assembly. All three figures watched with rapt attention. No one said anything, but their expressions were increasingly grave. In the end, there was no hiding their astonishment, disbelief, confusion, and uncertainty.
All was silent save for the mountain gales whooshing past and rustling their clothing.
“The heretic turned the situation around at a crucial juncture with that mysterious Dao Sword,” said the monk, the first to break the silence.
He was thin, with steely features, coppery skin, and taupe monk’s robes.
This was none other than the Dinpankara Buddha’s Temple Guardian Arhat, Jia Yun!
“I suspect that sword is the same one the Swordmaster of Spiritual Desolation used, his mightiest divine weapon, the one even the gods proclaimed taboo. To this day, none know its name,” said the Daoist, his brow tightly furrowed.
He was tall and thin, with youthful, elegant features. His robes were neat and pristine, without the slightest embellishment. When he looked around, his eyes flashed with countless flecks of silver starlight, intimidating the soul.
He was Huo Jianfeng, one of the Three Purities Daoist Court’s Four Sons of the Dao!“It’s a pity that we couldn’t see anything that happened after that sword appeared! It affected even the Divine Space Jade Record, preventing it from displaying what happened next,” the woman said with a deep, unwilling sigh.
The snow-white jade disc hovering in the air was the Epoch Treasure she’d brought to the Immortal Realm, the Divine Space Jade Record. The three of them had used it to see everything that happened at the Immortal Peach Assembly. They watched as Su Yi arrived at Cloudsoar Peak alone save for his sword, cleaving through endless powerful foes. And not even they, unparalleled divine children from the God Domain, could stay calm after all that.
The woman was in a long dress with wide sleeves. Her skin was smooth, fair, and delicate, and her gaze was utterly bewitching. She was Wenren Qingyu, the unparalleled Immortal Sovereign of the God Domain’s Wenren Family.
She casually twirled a lock of dark hair, and her smooth red lips parted. “There’s no need to even question it. Even if the gods’ avatars of will force their way into this world, they’ll be helpless against Su Yi!”
Jia Yun’s eyelids twitched, while Huo Jianfeng sank into silence.
“Disregarding external items and comparing only your personal strengths, do you two think you could fight him?” Jia Yun asked suddenly.
Huo Jianfeng’s eyes flashed with imposing light. “Even if I went all out, I’d have at best fifty-fifty percent chances.”
But Wenren Qingyu just shook her head. “In a life-or-death struggle, external items are part of your strength. You have to take them into account.”
She suddenly looked at Jia Yun. “And what about you?”
The monk sighed. “It’s hard to say.”
In truth, just a few days ago, he’d sent a clone to fight Su Yi, only for it to be destroyed, but he wouldn’t reveal something so embarrassing to his companions.
“Fu Tianyi’s death is sure to utterly infuriate the ancient Fu Family. He was an unparalleled figure among their divine children, and he had the greatest hope of achieving divinity,” whispered Huo Jianfeng.
Fu Tianyi had worked with numerous other divine children and divine emissaries, as well as the factions of the Immortal Realm, to lay this trap. Had they fallen into this trap, not even other unparalleled divine children could have turned things around.
Yet somehow, Su Yi had done just that!
In the end, he had won, while Fu Tianyi, Qing Xiao, and the other divine children had been wiped out. If word of this battle returned to the God Domain, it would trigger a massive wave of uproar, shaking even the gods!
Wenren Qingyu said, “I wouldn’t have guessed that even that demoness Gu Lingxiao would die.”
Gu Lingxiao was the woman in black who’d died a brutal death at Su Yi’s hand just now. She’d wielded the Blood-Soaked Demonic Diagram, and she had an extraordinary status. This was because she was the descendant of the Severed Heavens Demon Lord!
The Severed Heavens Demon Lord was one of the twelve most terrifying demon Master Gods in the God Domain, an ancestor-like figure to Demonists, with numerous demon gods under his command. In the God Domain, his status was comparable to Master Gods like the Dipankara Buddha of Western Paradise’s Spirit Mountain, or the three Origin Master Gods of the Three Purities Daoist Court. Even ordinary gods could only look up to him! ŗàɴŐ฿ЕⱾ
Gu Lingxiao was his direct descendant, yet now, she’d died a brutal death in the Immortal Realm. Who knew how great a storm would arise when word reached the God Domain?
Jia Yun and Huo Jianfeng understood this full well.
“Tell me, you two. If we want to kill that heretic Su Yi, how should we go about it?” asked Huo Jianfeng.
“There are feasible approaches,” said Wenren Qingyu without missing a beat. “First, we could join forces with the other divine children and every divine emissary in the Immortal Realm, then attack together. We ought to be able to win then.”
Before she could continue, Jia Yun shook his head. “Impossible. Every divine child in the Immortal Realm has their own ambitions, and they all represent different camps. Some have deep grudges between them. How could they possibly work together?”
Huo Jianfeng nodded.
Even disregarding the others, he, Jia Yun, and Wenren Qingyu each represented different camps. They could coexist peacefully in the moment, but that didn’t mean they could truly cooperate with one another.
Wenren Qingyu seemed to have anticipated this response. “Then there’s only one other way: achieving divinity.”
Achieving divinity!
Jia Yun and Huo Jianfeng fell silent. It was true. Su Yi might only be in the Great Martial Stage, but he was already strong enough to threaten the lives of Great Profound experts like them.
That aside, he controlled the power of reincarnation, and had two of the Nine Mysteries of Chaos, the Sword of Proximity and the Book of Karma. On top of all that, he had a mysterious Dao Sword even the gods saw as a taboo.
Given the circumstances, becoming gods really was their most reliable route to victory. So long as they became gods before Su Yi, they could crush him with absolute strength.
Huo Jianfeng said gravely, “But becoming gods won’t be easy. We’ll have to overcome brutal competition to succeed. Still, Miss Wenren is right. So long as we achieve divinity, defeating Su Yi will be as easy as turning over our hands.”
“Earlier, this humble monk sensed that divine misfortune is receding at ever-increasing speed,” said Jia Yun. “At this rate, the Path of Divinity will appear earlier than anticipated!”
Wenren Qingyu and Huo Jianfeng’s hearts shook. Both of them looked at Jia Yun. “How much earlier?”
“No more than four years from now,” said Jia Yun.
Four years!
“To people like us, four years is nothing at all, but I’m worried that Su Yi’s cultivation will become even more terrifying in the time leading up to the Path of Divinity’s appearance,” said Huo Jianfeng with a frown. “Don’t forget, it’s only been a few months since he became an Immortal King, but now, he’s already in the Great Realm! Even in the God Domain, such rapid advancement is shocking and unheard of. If we give him another four years, he might well reach the Great Profound Stage and have a shot at achieving divinity too!”
Wenren Qingyu and Jia Yun couldn’t help but frown. This was a thorny problem indeed!
A little while later, Jia Yun said slowly, “Rest assured. After what happened at the Immortal Peach Assembly today, Su Yi stands where the wind and waves are the fiercest. Even if we don’t go out of our way to target him, that doesn’t mean the other divine children will hold back!”
Huo Jianfeng and Wenren Qingyu couldn’t help but nod.
It was true. It was highly likely that that would happen. No, it was all but certain!
They knew that some of the fiercer unparalleled divine children had long since made their stances clear. They wouldn’t tolerate Su Yi!
“That aside, over the next four years, we can employ various methods to leave Su Yi plagued with endless problems. For example, we can arrange for the nine races of the Spirit Domain to invade the Immortal Realm, or make arrangements with his past lives’ enemies…” said Jia Yun.
Here, he laughed. “You ought to understand what this humble monk is getting at. For the next four years, let’s just stand back and watch the show. It’s getting late, so I’ll be on my way!”
With any further ado, he turned and left.
“I ought to get going too.” Wenren Qingyu drifted away.
Huo Jianfeng furrowed his brow, but after a moment’s thought, he turned to leave too.
……
That very day, word of what happened at the Immortal Peach Assembly spread throughout the Immortal Realm.
Everyone was astonished. The world’s cultivators were in complete uproar!
“This battle has already rewritten the Immortal Realm’s balance of power! Those factions that once stood proudly above the masses are doomed to decline, and those who colluded with the demons of the Beyond will pay for their crimes in blood!”
“The master of the Little Heavenly Court, the sole ruler of his era, has finally returned! Seeing him is like seeing the heavens, the First Immortal of the Sword!”
“The curtains have already opened on a new era!!”
……
Far to the west, in a palace built beneath countless layers of ice.
Jiang Tai’e shattered his teacup, the look on his beautifully handsome face as dark as could be. His gaze was utterly vicious.
“You really did it this time, Wang Ye!”
……
An overcast, lifeless, hidden realm.
When the Blood Firmament Immortal Sovereign learned what had happened at the Immortal Peach Assembly, his hands trembled uncontrollably, and he couldn’t help but roar in grief and fury.
He’d completely lost control of his emotions!
……
To the south of the Immortal Realm, in the mundane Donglai Kingdom.
“How could even a god… have failed to kill that blasted Tyrant!?” Nan Pingtian sprawled out on the ground, completely disconsolate, as if he were attending his parents' funerals.
Prior to the Age of Fallen Immortals, old-timers like them could at least contend with Wang Ye, but after what happened during the Immortal Peach Assembly, Nan Pingtian realized that Wang Ye’s former greatest rivals were no longer qualified to oppose him.
After all, hadn’t Su Yi defeated every expert who’d stood in his way at the Immortal Peach Assembly? He’d even slaughtered a group of divine children!
Even a god's avatar of will was helpless to stop him!
This victory came as an incomparably heavy blow to him, as well as Wang Ye’s other remaining old enemies!
……
Elsewhere.
A waterfall of lightning poured from the heavens amidst a boundless swamp, only to strangely disappear without a trace. It didn’t create even the slightest ripple in the muddy water.
Whoosh!
A hundred-thousand-foot-long skeletal bird beat its massive wings, blotting out the sun. As it moved, its knife-like wings ripped open the sky, stirring up turbulent currents of time and space.
When Luo Tiandu saw this in the distance, he couldn’t help but gasp. This blasted place is far too terrifying!
A moment’s incaution could easily destroy even an unparalleled divine son like him.
Suddenly, Xi Ning’s cold, clear voice resounded behind him and said, “I think you’d best refrain from fighting Fellow Daoist Su going forward.”
