Chapter 2216 - Inquiring About Unfettered Wanderer

Chapter 2216 – Inquiring About Unfettered Wanderer

Su Yi could tell that Lu Qingmei had brought Fang Shuo to use his Torch Dragon bloodline to test his identity.

After all, the Torch Dragons had been gone for far, far too long. The vast majority of Master Gods had never seen a true Torch Dragon before.

That woman is as crafty as ever. She’s patient, but when she takes action, she’s always prepared. Unfortunately for her, she’s miscalculated this time!

As these thoughts flashed through Su Yi’s mind, Fang Shuo attacked in full force.

Boom!

Fang Shuo’s blood and qi brimmed with power. When he attacked, the illusory Torch Dragon attacked with him, its ferocious majesty shaking heaven and earth.

But when Su Yi unleashed the power of his Torch Dragon, an unbelievable scene followed.

Fang Shuo suddenly froze, and the illusory Torch Dragon behind him quivered, then wailed in apparent terror, like a baby beast before its ancestor.

This was pure bloodline suppression! It affected and disrupted Fang Shuo’s blood and qi, making them stagnate within him.

His expression shifted abruptly, but Su Yi was already attacking without hesitation.

Boom!

He swung his fist, and a roaring Torch Dragon seemed to shoot out of the darkness. It stretched out its claws, then seized Fang Shuo’s illusory Torch Dragon and held on with unstoppable force.

He’d basically seized hold of Fang Shuo’s weak point. After all, that Torch Dragon was a manifestation of his blood and qi.

Suppressing it meant suppressing his blood and qi, too!

When Su Yi’s fist landed, Fang Shuo could in no way dodge. He was sent directly flying, and he landed with a thud outside the arena.

Silence descended over the crowd.

A moment later, the audience boiled over, like a pot blowing off its lid. A tidal wave of cheers arose from the stands.

The ritual grounds were in complete uproar! No one had anticipated that Fang Shuo, the strongest Lesser God of the Severed Heavens Demon Court, would be defeated in a single punch.

It all happened too quickly, and too unexpectedly!

Many of the onlookers’ eyes widened. They stood there in a daze, unable to believe what they were seeing!

“He used his weak points to attack his enemy’s strong points. How could Fang Shuo have been so stupid?” One of the higher-ups frowned. “Had he used his abilities as a soul cultivator, he would never have lost so easily.”

“That’s true. It seems his Torch Dragon bloodline is incomplete; Xiao Jian’s bloodline completely suppressed his, which is why he lost in a single hit. It’s a pity…” someone else sighed.

The top experts could naturally tell at a glance why Fang Shuo had been defeated.

“Fellow Daoist, why do I get the sense that Fang Shuo was using his bloodline power to test Xiao Jian?” Second High Elder Bai Liyun turned to look at Lu Qingmei.

“On our way here, Fang Shuo heard about Xiao Jian, and he was convinced that Xiao Jian couldn’t possibly be a real Torch Dragon, which is why he decided to use his bloodline to test him,” Lu Qingmei said softly. “It’s just a pity; Fang Shuo lost to his own preconceptions. He thought he was the only remaining descendant of Torch Dragons in this world. He never even considered the possibility that your sect’s Xiao Jian would have a far stronger Torch Dragon bloodline.”

Only then did the crowd understand.

“It really is a pity, but he’s already lost. It’s too late to change course,” sighed Bai Liyun.

She said it was a pity, but in truth, she was smiling. In truth, she wasn’t the least bit regretful about Fang Shuo’s defeat. On the contrary, she found it immensely satisfying. Now, when she looked at Xiao Jian, her gaze was full of appreciation. We’ve got to train Xiao Jian up properly!

The entire crowd was in uproar. Fang Shuo crawled to his feet, his face pale as he stammered, “You… You really are from the Torch Dragon lineage?”

Su Yi turned around to look at him. “You’ve already tested it. You ought to know the answer to that.”

Fang Shuo fell silent. He did indeed know the answer, because he’d fought Su Yi, and he’d sensed the suppression of a pure Torch Dragon bloodline!

It was to the point that when he faced Su Yi, he felt as if were gazing upon his own progenitor. Su Yi’s Torch Dragon bloodline was just too ancient and too pure. It was full of source energies and supremely tyrannical.

By comparison, Fang Shuo’s Torch Dragon bloodline seemed mottled and impure. It was qualitatively far inferior!

“Before my mother passed away, she told me that I was the last descendant of Torch Dragons, and that no matter what, I had to live on and work hard to grow strong so as not to bring shame upon my bloodline,” murmured Fang Shuo. “I’ve been cultivating all this time, never slacking, but I never considered that there might still… be another… like me in this world.”

Su Yi could tell that Fang Shuo was shocked, dazed, and dejected. He couldn’t help but feel a bit bad. After all, he ultimately wasn’t really a Torch Dragon.

“You’re already quite strong. Even by the standards of the God Domain as a whole, you’re among the most heaven-defying handful of Lesser Gods around,” said Su Yi. “As for your bloodline? It doesn’t mean anything. When cultivating the Grand Dao, a bloodline alone has never been able to determine someone’s prospects.”

Fang Shuo grimaced, shook his head, and turned to leave.

“Would anyone else like to fight me?” Su Yi surveyed the surrounding area.

A long time passed, but no one answered.

Eventually, an old man stepped forth to announce the end of the second round of duels. Qingwu Divine Court had won!

The whole venue erupted into cheers. A long time passed before they faded away.

“We won!”

“Hahaha! Who could have imagined that Deacon Xiao would arrive at a critical juncture and turn the tides?”

“Even after the sect leader suppressed him, Deacon Xiao was willing to fight for the sect. I find even the thought of it hard to take.”

“Rest assured that after this battle, the sect is sure to treat Deacon Xiao properly. Otherwise, they’d be taking things way too far!”

The disciples of Qingwu Divine Court rejoiced throughout the ritual grounds. Even the higher-ups beamed.

One elder went so far as to say, “Deacon Xiao’s victory has protected Qingwu Divine Court’s reputation. This glorious accomplishment should be considered an act of supreme merit!”

“That’s right! He deserves no less!” The other higher-ups nodded along.

Grand Elder Wei Zhong went so far as to say directly, “After this extraordinary feat, Deacon Xiao is completely qualified for a promotion to vice palace master. If Wandering Night Palace doesn’t have a spot for him, my Wandering Sun Palace will naturally give him a position as vice palace master!”

Countless people instantly cast him sideways glances.

Sect Leader Liang Lingxu frowned, then said calmly, “Rest assured that this time, this lofty one will ensure that everyone is satisfied!”

Ku Zhen opened his mouth to speak, then shut it. In the end, he just sighed, his expression dark. It would have been obvious to anyone that he wasn’t happy.

It was then that Tie Wenjing stepped forth, clasped his fist, and said, “Sect Leader, allow me to make another suggestion. Please, let Deacon Xiao return to Spirit Bamboo Peak. He… deserves it!”

The crowd was stunned, but they quickly realized that Tie Wenjing was trying to strike while the iron was hot. The sect leader had only just promised to reward Xiao Jian generously, and there was such a large crowd gathered here. How could Liang Lingxu possibly refuse?

Tie Wenjing had seized the perfect opportunity to snag even more rewards for Xiao Jian!

Liang Lingxu’s brow furrowed, but then, he burst into hearty laughter. “What does a request like that amount to? If anything, I’m worried that Spirit Bamboo Peak won’t be good enough for Deacon Xiao!”

Tie Wenjing smiled. “I’m sure that he’ll just be happy that you agreed, Sect Leader.”

This little interlude passed quickly.

When the curtains fell on this sparring competition between two top orthodoxies, Sect Leader Liang Lingxu personally arranged for a banquet to welcome the Blue Rose Demon Master and her companions.

Su Yi was naturally invited to participate, too.

The banquet was lively, and the air was full of the sound of clinking glasses and laughter.

Many of the prominent attendees took turns drinking with Su Yi. Any other deacon would have been shocked and flattered, but Su Yi found it all rather dull. Better to just drink by himself.

But when Tie Wenjing saw all this, he felt increasingly gratified. He knew that after this discussion of the Dao, even most of the sect’s higher-ups attached great importance to Xiao Jian!

Anyone who wanted to touch Xiao Jian going forward would have to carefully weigh the consequences first!

For some inexplicable reason, a sentence rose unbidden to Tie Wenjing’s mind. “The fledgling’s feathers are growing in. His future looks bright!”

By now, both Xiao Jian’s reputation and his status carried real weight!

But Su Yi wasn’t thinking about all that. He’d noticed that although Lu Qingmei seemed like she was just casually chatting with other experts, she was, in truth, paying attention to everything he did!

Su Yi suddenly realized that even though he’d proved the veracity of his Torch Dragon bloodline, he still hadn’t cleared up Lu Qingmei’s suspicions!

But then, Su Yi couldn’t be bothered to pay her any heed. Unless they pushed him to the brink, no one would be able to see through his identity!

Liang Lingxu did in fact carry out his promise. He promoted Xiao Jian directly to vice palace master of Wandering Night Palace and restored his right to residency on Spirit Bamboo Peak!

That aside, he gave Xiao Jian an enormous supply of cultivation resources. It was obvious to anyone that Liang Lingxu had really opened up a vein this time; many of the resources were extremely rare and precious!

“Is there anything else you want, Deacon Xiao?” laughed High Elder Wei Zhong. “If so, go ahead and say it directly. If the sect leader can grant it to you, he’ll naturally make arrangements. What he cannot do for you, I can help make a reality!”

The sect leader, the third elder, and the others in their camp frowned. It might have seemed that Wei Zhong was trying to rope in Xiao Jian, but more than that, he was deliberately provoking the sect leader!

Before Su Yi could say anything, Tie Wenjing couldn’t help but say, “Grand Elder, if you really admire Vice Palace Master Xiao so much, why not return that broken sword, Unfettered Wanderer?”

Many of the onlookers were stunned. Wei Zhong’s smile stiffened.

And Su Yi’s heart sank. He’d just noticed that Lu Qingmei was looking directly at him!

Unfettered Wanderer was once Yi Daoxuan’s sword, and now, he’d gone out of his way to acquire it. How could that not provoke Lu Qingmei’s suspicion?

Even though Wei Zhong had since “borrowed” it, who here didn’t know that it now belonged to him?

The road to hell really is paved with good intentions. Su Yi was exasperated, but he wouldn’t blame Tie Wenjing; he knew the elder was trying to help him.

Just as Su Yi expected, Lu Qingmei asked Bai Liyun with feigned casualness, “To the best of my knowledge, Unfettered Wanderer once belonged to Yi Daoxuan. Why does your sect’s Vice Palace Master Xiao have it?”

All the while, she was staring intently at Su Yi!
