Chapter 547: 546 Promise me

“Ranran, promise me, don’t leave me.”

It was not until Wen Ran could hardly breathe that Mo Xiuchen finally let her go.

He slid his large palm down, resting it on her shoulder, his eyes burning hot, staring intently at her.

His voice was deep, filled with unease and fear. He was so scared.

For the kiss just now, she was forced to endure it without responding to him. Although he kissed her passionately and deeply, it had nothing to do with desire.

He deeply felt the bitterness. Yes, bitterness, a kiss permeated with fear, a kiss without her response, there was no taste of sweetness nor happiness in it.

Wen Ran stiffened slightly, she just tried to lower her eyes, but he held her cheek with his large hand, forcing her to meet his gaze. His eyes were filled with pain as he stubbornly repeated his previous words: “Ranran, promise me, don’t leave me.”

Wen Ran’s heart throbbed, a sharp pain running from his eyes to her heart, spreading throughout her body at an extremely fast speed.

The ringing of the cell phone chimed in right on cue, breaking the silence, just as she was unable to agree to his request.

As Wen Ran lowered her head to take out her mobile phone, a dim light flashed in Mo Xiuchen’s eyes. He slowly let her go, sat up straight, and drove on.

Even though she consciously ignored him, Wen Ran could still feel the heavy sense of loneliness emitting from him. Her heart tightened, and the grip on her phone unconsciously tightened as well.

The call was from her brother, Wen Jin.

Wen Ran deliberately started a conversation, chatting with Wen Jin for more than ten minutes, until Aston parked in the villa garage, and Mo Xiuchen stopped the car. Only then did she hang up the phone.

Mo Xiuchen did not mention his earlier remarks again, he walked into the living room and nonchalantly said: “Ranran, you rest for a while, I’ll go prepare dinner.”

“I’ll go with you.”

Looking at his clear eyes, Wen Ran blurted out without thinking beforehand.

At her words, Mo Xiuchen’s dark eyes suddenly lit up. The shine in his eyes was like dazzling starlight, leaving Wen Ran breathless for a moment.

“Alright!”

The face that was a bit cold just a second ago now carried a layer of soft affection at her words. A charming curve appeared at the corner of his mouth, the voice from his thin lips was even more clear and joyful.

Seeing him like that, Wen Ran only felt aching in her heart. One word from her easily affected his mood. Influenced by him, she couldn’t help but smile, took the bag from his hand and headed towards the kitchen: “I’ll be your assistant.”

“Alright!”

Mo Xiuchen did not refuse but was very happy. He followed her into the kitchen.

The next day, Wu Tianyi was brought back to G City.

It was not until 3:40 in the afternoon when Mo Xiuchen received the call.

He glanced at Wen Ran sitting not far away, got up, walked away from his desk, and only then pressed the answer button: “Hello!”

When Wen Ran looked up, she met his gaze. He gave her a smile, talking on the phone while striding to the door, opening the door, and exiting the office.

As the door to the office closed, Wen Ran blinked her eyes, then lowered her head to continue her work. Outside the office, Mo Xiuchen walked into the guest room next door, listening to Lu Zhiyan telling him that they had arrived in G City.

“The drug Ah Kai was researching last time is ready. You can try it. I’ll have him send it to the police station.”

Mo Xiuchen pondered. The drug was specifically developed for people like Wu Tianyi and Xiao Wenqing, they had not tried it on them yet, they didn’t know what the effect would be, but it was worth a try.

“So soon?”

On the other end of the phone, Lu Zhiyan was somewhat surprised, then quickly replied: “Alright, then let him know.”

After hanging up the phone, Mo Xiuchen didn’t return to his office, but dialed Gu Kai’s number. The phone rang twice and was answered, Gu Kai’s cheerful voice came through: “Hi, Xiuchen!”

“Lu Zhiyan has returned. Ah Kai, bring the medicine to the police station now.”

Considering Zhou Mingfu’s earlier condition, Mo Xiuchen thought the sooner Wu Tianyi revealed Fu Jingyi’s whereabouts, the better. The night is long, with many dreams!

“Ah, I have a surgery coming up soon. If you’re free, then…”

“I’m not free.”

Mo Xiuchen decisively refused. It wasn’t that he wasn’t free, but he didn’t want to go to the police station, leaving Wen Ran alone at the company. If she weren’t in his line of sight, he would be restless.

“You’re that busy? Alright then, I’ll take care of it.”

Gu Kai frowned, agreed reluctantly. Thinking about something, he asked again: “Xiuchen, has Ranran been doing well these few days?”

He originally wanted to ask how Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran had been getting along these few days, but the question changed on the tip of his tongue.

“She’s fine!”

Mo Xiuchen’s thin lips unconsciously tightened. The word he uttered carried a hint of stiffness that was not easily detectable. Gu Kai, who was on the other end of the phone, couldn’t see his expression, but heard the difference in his voice. He didn’t pursue the matter though.

“Xiuchen, remember what I told you, don’t force Ranran. Keep her by your side, let her finish this course of medication, and then bring her in for a check-up.”

Gu Kai was somewhat worried and reminded him thoroughly. He understood Mo Xiuchen’s character very well and was afraid that he couldn’t control himself.

“I know.”

An unusual light flashed in Mo Xiuchen’s eyes. His hand clutching the phone tightened. He stood up and said: “You better hurry up, I’m hanging up.”

Without waiting for Gu Kai to say anything else, he hung up and walked out the door. He had left the office just a few minutes ago, but he was already impatient to return.

Kangning Hospital

Gu Kai was engrossed in the screen of his phone for a while. He then picked up the landline, dialed the hospital director’s office, and told his father that Wu Tianyi had returned.

“Ah Kai, you can go ahead into the operating room, I’ll go to the police station.”

Gu Yan’s voice carried a hint of repressed emotion. With Wu Tianyi being apprehended, it was very possible that Fu Jingyi, who had been in hiding for thirty years, would appear as well.

The thought of the man who had killed the woman he loved most and made his daughter live a life worse than death filled his heart with hatred. It was as if anger was constantly burning, wishing he could tear that man to pieces.

“Dad, why don’t you perform this surgery for me, and I’ll go to the police station.”

Gu Kai hesitated and proposed this idea.

He knew how much his father hated Fu Jingyi. Wu Tianyi was the only one who knew Fu Jingyi’s whereabouts. He was worried that his father wouldn’t be able to control his emotions when he saw him.

“Don’t you trust your old dad?” Gu Yan knew his concerns, and again assured him: “Don’t worry, I won’t do anything to Wu Tianyi.”

He wouldn’t take Wu Tianyi’s life. He just needed Wu Tianyi to disclose Fu Jingyi’s whereabouts, then find that man, so he could reveal the method to heal his daughter.

Gu Kai gave a smile, “Dad, it’s not that I don’t trust you.”

“Then stop wasting words, I’m going to the police station now.” After saying that, Gu Yan hung up the phone.
