Genetic Ascension

Chapter 875: Pie [Top 5 in Golden Tickets Bonus Chapter]

Sylas’ vision swam, but he experienced something quite quickly that he had many times before almost immediately.

Danger.

He didn’t even get to see what it was, and he couldn’t move a single inch. Luckily, he felt a strong urge come from the depths of his Aether.

With a push, he expelled a large amount of Glassvolt Aether, forming a series of barriers.

Their shattering reverberated in his ears one after another before a strong force slammed against his chest.

A grunt left Sylas’ lips as he was sent flying backward, his back slamming against heavy, hard rock that made no attempt to give way. All of the pressure was transferred directly to his body, and he almost felt his bones collapsing on him one after another.

Finally, Sylas’ visualization cleared enough to see what was happening around him, his actual vision still lagging behind.

For a moment, he thought he was staring at the Bone-Tailed Lizard.

[Anklyosaurus (FFF+)]

[Level: 37]

’Level 37? How is it so strong?’

Though Sylas had dismissed his Scorpion Warlord Armor to conserve his Will, a Level 37 shouldn’t be able to blast through his Defenses like that.

All of these thoughts flashed in Sylas’ mind quickly, and the answers came the moment his feet touched the ground.

The gravity here was shocking.

’This doesn’t make any sense

Sylas knew that he was likely approaching the center of the Earth now. Although he didn’t have a hand in the teleportation, his ability to orient himself and feel his movement through space and time, or rather, the Mesh of Reality, was beyond what most could fathom.

While others would be disoriented, Sylas could actually vaguely tell what direction he had been sent in and had a guess as to how far. Thanks to the ability he awakened after reaching Rune Spark, he was certain that he had somehow instantly been teleported to a halfway point between the surface and the core of Earth.

This was all to say that, scientifically speaking, an increase in gravity made no sense. Something was wrong, or this was related to the Dungeon.

But could the Dungeon really still be so active this deep?

Sylas rolled to the side, avoiding the sudden follow-up attack.

BANG!

The ground cracked as Sylas leapt back up to his feet.

’It lacks flexibility.’

The body of the dinosaur was bulky, and its best means of attack required agility it didn’t have. It was good at a sneak attack, but otherwise…

Sylas flashed forward, getting so close that the next tail swing soared over his head, missing entirely.

He slid beneath the dinosaur, popping up on the other side and leaping into the air.

His telekinesis took hold of his body, and he smashed down a fist from above just as the dinosaur foolishly tried to turn, thinking he was on the other side of it rather than high above it.

BANG!

Sylas’ fist fell with the momentum of a meteor, driving down with such power the head of the beast into the ground.

There was a crack as its powerful exo-skeleton gave way beneath Sylas’ power, a pulsing Glassvolt Aether running into its body like jumping sparks of electricity.

The body of the beast convulsed, and when it tried to stand, the poison only spread faster, Runes spreading through it like a virus.

Sylas landed on its head, his Blackened Claws manifesting and shearing right through the cracks in its bones his fist had formed.

The beast twitched one final time before falling to silence.

Finally, Sylas exhaled a breath and got a chance to look at his surroundings. He found himself near a wall of earth that went to the skies, so tall he couldn’t see the end of it at all.

The wall felt completely out of place compared to the rest of the region that could only be described as a lush oasis. It was impossible to tell where the light source was coming from, but it felt like he was trapped in a perpetual dusk, low lights of purple, orange, and deep blues hanging over everything.

There was lush grass beneath his feet and tropical trees all around. He could hear the sound of running water in the distance and the approach of what was likely even more beasts.

’This… isn’t what I thought it would be.’

Sylas’ eyes squinted.

The pillar wasn’t here, and he also didn’t see anything that reminded him of the map in his mind.

’Hm?’

Sylas’ gaze flickered as he looked down at the dead dinosaur before him. There was a slight glow coming from it, and soon, it coalesced into a familiar energy that suddenly flowed toward him.

’Mature Aether?’

Sylas was a bit shocked. Had he accidentally entered another Split Realm?

This time, Sylas didn’t panic, and he easily diverted the Mature Aether to the Bone-Tailed Lizard. But oddly enough…

’It didn’t Level up?’

Sylas’ frown deepened.

Although the Bone-Tailed Lizard was a Bronze King Beast now, the gap wasn’t exaggerated to the point a Level 37 shouldn’t be able to help it Level up.

’Something is off about this place

Sylas’ pupils trembled when he realized something. The Bone-Tailed Lizard suddenly started sending him hunger signals, as though it hadn’t had enough, like it had suddenly become insatiable.

Trouble

Sylas realized that he had made a mistake. He hadn’t left the Lost City of Greed at all. If anything, he was in the thick of it now.

This place probably lured people in with false hopes of quick Level ups and improvement, only for it to be empty. This wasn’t a Split Realm, it was a trap.

Sylas hurriedly summoned the Bone-Tailed Lizard. It snapped toward him, its eyes red and fiendish.

Experience tales with

’Semi-Reversal.’

The red slowly faded from the Bone-Tailed Lizard’s eyes as the "Mature Aether" was expelled from it.

Sylas exhaled a breath. Luckily, he had unlocked this ability, or else he might lose one of his most valuable assets.

The Bone-Tailed Lizard snapped away, and seemingly realizing it had done something wrong, it looked to Sylas with an apologetic gaze, nudging its large head at him.

Sylas absentmindedly rubbed its head. He didn’t blame it; it was his fault for not thinking things through.

Seemingly sensing that Sylas wasn’t mad, the Bone-Tailed Lizard licked at him.

Lost in thought, Sylas allowed the Bone-Tailed Lizard to do as it pleased.

After a while, the beast got bored. Happy that Sylas wasn’t mad at it, it stalked off to the Anklyosaurus corpse and began to devour it.

At the start, everything was just fine. Sylas paid attention somewhat, just in case another change was triggered in his Contract. But to his surprise, while there was a change, it was a shockingly positive one.

The Bone-Tailed Lizard’s body began to glow, and it Leveled up to Level 1. As it continued to eat, its Level continued to increase.

Sylas watched in silence, feeling like something was on the tip of his tongue, but not quite something he could articulate.

Gluttony and Greed danced around in his mind, the two concepts pulling and tugging at one another.

By the time the Bone-Tailed Lizard finished eating completely, it had improved to Level 7, brimming with power.

As things stood now, the improvement of the Bone-Tailed Lizard was far more important to Sylas than the Glasirith. The abilities of the Glasirith were a bit redundant to the current him. But he had a feeling that the Bone-Tailed Lizard would be especially helpful against the Dogons.

And it seemed a pie had fallen from the skies this time.
