Global Beast Mastery: Only I Can See the Hints
Chapter 614 - 614: You're the Real Traitor!Aldany’s expression shifted rapidly—first anxious, then ashamed, and finally, it turned into outright fury.
His face flushed bright red, and his fists clenched tightly, as though he was about to explode with rage at any moment.
Just then, Kent the High Priest, who was seated beside Aldany, slammed his staff heavily against the floor.
“Silence! What we are discussing here concerns the very survival of the Serpent People. How can any of you be whispering amongst yourselves at a time like this?!”
Kent’s stern words had the desired effect.
The other high priests, who had already begun murmuring to one another, immediately quieted down.
Aldany also took this opportunity to regain his composure.
He quickly sorted through his thoughts.
“You’re suspicious of me just because I wasn’t present when Her Majesty’s curse erupted? That’s completely unreasonable!” Aldany said calmly.
“How could I possibly know when Her Majesty’s curse would explode? As the regent of the Serpent Empire, I have countless state affairs to attend to! I’m not like you, wandering aimlessly around Serpent’s Eye Lake Oasis without a care.”
Aldany had successfully turned the blame back toward Charles.
Moreover, his words subtly implied that the reason Charles was able to arrive at the scene immediately when the Queen’s curse broke out was because he was the one who caused it.
Charles let out a cold laugh and asked in return, “So what you’re saying is—the person who arrives first is the one responsible for triggering the Queen’s curse?”
“That’s the most likely scenario!” Aldany shot back.
His answer played right into Charles’s hands.
The smile on Charles’s face deepened.
He took a few more steps forward, this time shifting his gaze away from Aldany and turning toward Kent the High Priest instead.
“High Priest Kent, do you agree with Aldany’s statement?” Charles asked with amused interest.
He asked the question deliberately—because Kent was also one of the first people to arrive at the scene.
At the time, he, Zara, and Kent had actually been in the middle of discussing another matter.
Kent slowly shook his head.
“I wouldn’t say I completely agree. But then again, I don’t fully support your conclusion either. After all, there were many who weren’t present at the very beginning.”
Kent clearly had no intention of siding with either of them.
In truth, he preferred to see Aldany and Charles keeping each other in check.
From his perspective, neither of them was a trustworthy person.
A look of mild disappointment flickered across Aldany’s face as he heard Kent’s response.
He hadn’t expected the High Priest to remain neutral between him and Charles.
Charles is a human, after all. Yet Kent showed not even a trace of bias against him!
Although Aldany was deeply disappointed, he quickly adjusted his thinking.
He decided to change his strategy of attack.
“We won’t be able to figure out the reason behind Her Majesty’s curse suddenly erupting in such a short time. I’m not trying to make things difficult for you—I’m simply expressing my suspicions,”
Aldany said in a deliberately gentle tone.
“Why don’t you explain why you and Zara didn’t head to the Wall immediately after the horn sounded?”
“I don’t think there’s anything to explain,” Charles replied coldly. “As I’ve already said, we were dealing with something far more important at the time.”
“And what exactly was that?”
Aldany asked quickly.
He was eagerly awaiting Charles’s answer—because it was a carefully laid trap.
Without a moment of hesitation, Charles answered.
“Zara and I discovered a very mysterious Serpent Beast Master in the Grand Library. He appeared to be secretly monitoring us. When we noticed him, he tried to flee.
After a brief battle, we managed to subdue him and seal him away. What we were doing at the time—was sealing him inside Zara’s chambers.”
A triumphant, scheming smile appeared on Aldany’s face.
Seated beside him, Kent the High Priest looked utterly shocked.
“This mysterious Serpent Beast Master you mentioned… was his mystical beast Death Herald Bat and Wraith of the Shadows?” Kent asked anxiously.
In truth, Charles hadn’t learned the names of the two mystical beasts from the hidden clues.
But based on the names, they matched the traits of the beasts that mysterious Serpent Beast Master had controlled.
After a brief moment of thought, Charles nodded.
“He’s the Beast Master assigned to protect the safety of Serpent’s Eye Lake Oasis. Only a handful of high-ranking members of the Serpent Empire are aware of his identity! You must release him immediately!”
Kent the High Priest shouted in panic.
Aldany stood by with a malicious look in his eyes, clearly enjoying Charles and Zara’s dilemma.
Zara herself looked visibly stunned.
She asked in disbelief, “Is this true? Are you sure even Her Majesty knows about this Serpent Beast Master?”
“Of course! It was Her Majesty who assigned him to guard the Grand Library!” Kent roared, furious.
The other high priests remained silent, observing.
None of them had known about the existence of this Beast Master.
“What are the two of you still standing there for?! Even if you don’t want to release him right away, at the very least, bring him here! That’s the only way you’ll be able to clear your names!”
Seeing that Charles and Zara hadn’t moved an inch, Kent urged them on, his voice filled with impatience.
Zara turned her gaze toward Charles.
She felt that she was not in a position to make any decisions.
Charles stood motionless, his eyes locked on Aldany.
From the expression on Aldany’s face, he could tell that there was definitely a hidden conspiracy behind this.
So, he would not bring that Serpent Beast Master here under any circumstances.
“You don’t need to keep urging me! I won’t bring him here! Keeping him sealed in Zara’s room is the safest option. Perhaps he has already betrayed the Serpent Empire.”
Charles said casually.
His words shocked Kent the High Priest.
“How can you make such a rash judgment?” Kent exclaimed. “Don’t forget, you’re just a human! You’re in the Serpent Empire now, and you must obey our orders!”
“Obey your orders?” Charles scoffed. “Are you serious? You seem to have forgotten something. My strength is greater than all of yours, and I came here because your Queen requested it.”
At those words, the Serpent High Priests were enraged.
Aldany stood up immediately and roared loudly, “There’s no need to argue any further! He’s a human spy! While I don’t know if he’s a spy from the Stellar Empire, he is definitely a threat to the Serpent Empire! I suggest we imprison Charles right now!”
The majority of the High Priests agreed with Aldany’s suggestion.
However, Kent the High Priest did not give his opinion.
He knew Charles’s strength well.
If they tried to imprison him by force, a bloody battle would surely break out at Serpent’s Eye Lake Oasis.
It was very likely that the Serpent Empire would collapse entirely because of that battle.
Charles coldly observed the enraged High Priests.
He was already prepared for a fight.
If these people dared to take action, he would make them remember it for the rest of their lives.
“Are you still going to oppose this?”
Aldany asked Kent, pretending to be pained as he looked at the still figure of the High Priest.
“Charles is a spy! Maybe the Tears of an Angel he brought back is the reason behind Her Majesty’s curse eruption. The improvement in Her Majesty’s condition was just a facade.”
Aldany’s persuasion made Kent the High Priest even calmer.
He took a deep breath and slowly said,
“I think it’s too early to make a judgment. Since Charles refuses to release Azka, let’s go to Zara’s room and question the Azka sealed inside.”
As soon as Kent finished speaking, Charles quickly retorted,
“Absolutely not! I won’t let you see him!”
His words only made him more isolated.
Kent the High Priest’s face showed an expression of surprise.
In his view, Charles’s actions were a clear sign of guilt.
Aldany, on the other hand, was filled with excitement.
He shouted loudly, “You’re the spy! Her Majesty was deceived by you earlier, and you betrayed her, becoming a traitor to the entire Serpent Empire!”
Aldany had already started to judge Charles on his own.
Charles smiled coldly.
He had already decided that as soon as the fight began, he would kill Aldany on the spot.
But just then, Zara, who had barely managed to calm herself, suddenly broke down.
She screamed angrily at Aldany.
“Charles isn’t the traitor! You’re the traitor! You’ve always been against Her Majesty! She’s already realized your disloyalty! The only reason she hasn’t eradicated you is because your tribe is so powerful!”
As soon as she spoke these words, the entire hall fell into complete silence.
All the high priests, including Kent, instantly understood.
They all knew that the second half of Zara’s statement had to be true. Everyone knew that Aldany’s tribe had gained immense power within the Serpent Empire.
It could even be said that, to some extent, Aldany posed a threat to Empress Aria’s authority.
Therefore, it was entirely natural for Aria to be wary of Aldany.
Even if what Zara said in the first part was false, and Aldany wasn’t a traitor, they all knew they had to balance Aldany’s power to ensure Her Majesty’s safety.
Kent, having understood everything, interrupted Aldany before he could speak again.
“I think we should end this for today. You’ve all become too agitated. Once everyone has calmed down, we can sort this out. Everyone, go rest now.”
With that, Kent the High Priest immediately left.
The other high priests quickly followed suit, leaving the room as well.
