Chapter 2957: Cangbird

Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio

Outside the underground base square.

The Federation military squad held their energy weapons at the ready, eyes locked on the sky above.

At that moment, the sandstorm-covered sky began to twist and distort layer by layer.

An anomaly rippled through space, as if it were being pulled back and forth.

"Mr. Fang."

Collete saw Fang Heng emerge from the underground passage with his group and nodded, "The ship will arrive in ten minutes. We will initiate the transition back to headquarters immediately. Please prepare as soon as possible."

Vionne remained silent, standing to the side with a cold smirk.

Fang Heng!

You think you’re so powerful?

What, are you not going to evacuate with the ship?

Vionne was just waiting for Fang Heng to beg for help, so he could demand an outrageous price for the goods.

Suddenly, the players’ expressions shifted.

Looking up, they saw black round mechanical orbs begin to emerge from the distorted space in the sky.

Not good!

It was the Cangbird Mechanical Legion!

They arrived so fast?

They had expected to evacuate before the mechanical swarm attacked—who knew the enemy would come so soon?

"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!!!"

The Cangbird round battle units gathered, unleashing dense short-frequency black beams from the orb-like machines, striking the defensive barrier and exploding in bursts across its surface.

"Fire!"

With a shout, the Federation soldiers and Wayne’s player team immediately opened fire at the sky.

Still ineffective!

The black orbs in the air only needed minor adjustments to evade the incoming beams with ease.

Vionne began to panic slightly and glanced nervously at the time.

Less than eight minutes until the ship arrived.

Surely they could hold out with their current strength?

"Hey, Federation’s hired expert."

Vionne frowned, turning to the voice—Zaka.

Zaka gave a lazy shrug and said, "Need help? What’s the rate? Shouldn’t we get some protection fee?"

Seeing Zaka, Vionne’s temper flared again. He scoffed coldly, "If Mr. Fang Heng can repel the Cangbird mechanical assault, then name your price."

Such a deal?

And so bold?

Zaka lit up with joy. He thought, clearly, this guy had never seen Mr. Fang in action.

"Heh, and who exactly are you to make such promises?" Zaka grinned. "We won’t even ask for contribution points. Just give us those three temporary base modules, and lend us the researchers for a year. How about it? Deal or not?"

Vionne sneered, "If you can actually do it, take them. Why not?"

Zaka turned to Fang Heng with a smug look, raising his eyebrows in triumph.

Fang Heng responded with a glance of approval and didn’t waste any more words on Vionne. He raised his hand, and the Book of Elements levitated before him.

Crackling sounds followed.

Infused with mental strength, blue electric currents surged from the Book of Elements.

Lightning Storm.

Dark thunderclouds instantly gathered overhead.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!!!"

The storm clouds raged, unleashing wild chains of lightning.

Caught in the electric storm, the black mechanical orbs froze mid-air.

"Now! Fire!"

Zaka’s team had been ready. As the mechanical creatures stiffened, they quickly seized the moment to take aim and shoot.

"Whoosh! Whoosh whoosh!!"

Unable to dodge while paralyzed, the black mechanical orbs were struck head-on by blue beams and exploded mid-air.

"We got them!"

Zaka excitedly raised his arm in victory.

This was their first time successfully taking down the black orb mechanicals!

"Aim at those controlled black orbs!"

The Federation soldiers also quickly redirected their fire to the paralyzed targets under Fang Heng’s control.

Vionne hadn’t expected Fang Heng to be capable of fighting these black orb machines. Surprise flickered in his eyes.

Zaka emptied a volley of beam ammo, and while switching magazines, he threw a mocking glance at Vionne and grinned, "Heh heh, see that?"

"Hmph! Don’t get cocky. The enemy isn’t beaten yet."

Vionne scoffed coldly, though inwardly, he breathed a sigh of relief.

Fang Heng may be annoying, but his strength was real—he could at least delay the Cangbird Mechanical Legion for a while.

Reinforcements would arrive soon.

Then they could evacuate safely.

Deep down, Vionne never expected Fang Heng to defeat the entire mechanical swarm.

"Hey, don’t be impatient. We’re just getting started."

Rage boiled in Vionne’s chest. He clenched his fists and restrained himself from retorting.

The more smug they looked now, the harder they’d fall later!

He just hoped they wouldn’t end up begging to be taken aboard the ship.

"Chi, chi, chi..."

Huh?

Vionne, deep in angry thoughts, suddenly heard something and turned toward the sound.

What?

From behind Fang Heng, mutant worms surged out of the underground passage.

Mutant worm creatures!

One after another, the Lickers burst out in a line, quickly forming ranks and occupying most of the square.

That many?

Vionne hadn’t expected the underground cave to house so many summoned creatures.

The Licker swarm began setting up in artillery mode. Their spinal muscles bulged, and biological cannon muzzles emerged from their backs, aiming toward the sky.

That was...

Biological artillery!

Vionne stared intently at the Licker group.

He had never been on the battlefield and didn’t know about their long-range capabilities, so he was stunned at the sight.

Fire!

"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!!!"

Red biological shells blasted upward toward the black orbs in the sky.

These biological cannons had some tracking ability. The black orbs, with limited dodging capacity against such attacks, had to maneuver much more aggressively.

Fang Heng nodded silently.

Li Zixuan had been right. The Cangbird machines, being mechanical lifeforms, could scan and predict mechanical beam attacks, allowing them to dodge preemptively. But against this kind of biological energy cannon, their adaptation was lacking.

So...

Rely on sheer attack density to force success!

More and more Lickers poured from the underground passage, eventually covering an entire football field-sized combat platform.

Fang Heng reached forward once more, condensing an imprint in the air.

Lightning Storm!

"Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!!!"

Another massive cluster of Cangbird mechanicals caught in the storm froze in midair, and within just two seconds, they were annihilated by the concentrated fire of the Licker artillery.
