The White Tower is the name of the building and also the name of the organization that uses the building. The organization is similar to the lamp bearers in that they believe in a god.
The white tower believes in the god of Knowledge. Their members are exclusive to those on the path of knowledge who call themselves magus.
The white tower, as a building, is a large tower that was painted white. It is the tallest building in the town. Combined with the fact that it is glowing, it makes it quite eye catching.
Despite it being large on the outside, he is sure that it is larger on the inside. Unfortunately, he won’t be able to confirm that now because what he wants is sold at the foot of the tower outside of it.
Apart from their belief in gods, the white tower has nothing else in common with the lamp bearers. Maguses pursue knowledge at all costs and use both legal and illegal ways to acquire it. Lamp bearers only pursue justice.
While the lamp bearers will accept godclads from different pathways and will sell divine flesh from any pathway, they only sell the materials to become godclads to those they have vetted and those who will join them. They don’t sell to outsiders at all.
The white tower only sells divine flesh for the knowledge pathway, but they will sell to anyone. They won’t vet anyone as they don’t care what people do with what is purchased from them.
So he can go to them to buy things from them. He can buy the materials that prepare his existence from them, which he plans to do later. He also wants to buy formations for them.
The formations are what he came for at the moment. He wants to buy formations that will alert him when an intruder trespasses into his compound, and he wants to buy two more formations for hiding his basement and for protecting it from being invaded.
He can buy a formation to hide his whole compound from people, and he can also buy the protective formation that creates a barrier that seals off his compound from others.
But these formations will be too eye-catching. They will prove that he has something to hide.
The formations will also be too large, which will make them very expensive. These two reasons are why he only plans to hide and protect his basement.
The cost of these two formations for his basement is 21 gold coins. If he had wanted to seal off his whole compound, then he should be ready to spend 100 gold coins or more.
He plans to stay in the basement, but he is not going to leave his compound unprotected. He plans to set up an alarm array so that he will be informed of trespassers.
The alarm array was cheaper. Even though he got one for his whole compound, it only cost 5 gold coins.
He is doing all of these because becoming a godclad makes one both a predator and prey. Godclads hunt each other for their divine flesh every time. Even if they can’t use the divine flesh, they can sell it for money to buy the divine flesh they need.
It is not an understatement to say that godclads eat each other. Normally, two godclads on the same pathway are enemies. The funny thing is that it is the weaker godclad that always tries to kill the stronger godclad.
A strong godclad will have no use for divine flesh of lower power apart from the money that will be gained from selling it, but if a weaker godclad can kill the stronger one of the same pathway, then the weaker one will be able to gain the more powerful divine flesh and become stronger.
In some of his future lives, he didn’t become a godclad. But in some, he was a godclad of various pathways. In those lives when he was a godclad, it was never peaceful.
As a godclad, he never once died of old age or sickness. He was always murdered.
Many times, he was murdered in his own house. So he must secure where he lives. That way, he will be able to prevent ambush.
So even though the formations were expensive, he didn’t back down from buying them. After all, it was literally a matter of life and death.
After buying the formation, he didn’t bother to buy the materials he needed to prepare his existence for divine flesh from them yet. He wanted to wait until he got approved by the lamp bearers before he started preparing his existence.
If he starts preparing his existence now, they will notice it when he comes in for examination tomorrow. That will create more trouble than it is worth.
He is not going to buy from the White Tower because the lamp bearers will run out of materials to sell to him. He wants to buy from other sources because he doesn’t want the lamp bearers to know just how much material he used to prepare his existence.
That information is very important, as it will hint at his talent. It is common sense that the greater the talent, the more materials will be needed to reach the limit of human capabilities.
Someone with a poorer talent will have a smaller existence and will require very little material to reach the limit. While someone with the best talent possible like him will require a massive amount of materials to prepare his existence.
If someone is very talented, they might be able to assimilate divine flesh from two different pathways and be a godclad of two pathways. Those people are very strong and will be watched by others if not outright killed.
As someone with the talent to be a godclad of four pathways, he has to hide that fact very much, or he won’t live for more than a month. The spies in the lamp bearers will be willing to die just to kill him or spread out his information so that others will kill him.
