GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2197 - 2197: Reinfield City.

After confirming that things were in order, they went to the temple of the god of steam next. They went there to retrieve any letter that Tesla had sent to them.

The retrieval process took some time because his letters had been sent to Ivory Town. The letters had to be sent to Reinfield City again. For that, he had to pay some money.

There were other letters from other people. But he wasn’t interested in them enough to bother to pay for them to be sent to him directly.

He could only arrange for the letters to be sent by train to Reinfield City. This would take some days and might even lead to some misplaced letters, but it was cheap.

After taking his letters, he returned home in the inner city. This is where rich merchants and other upper-class people live.

Reinfield City is about four times the size of Ivory Town. But there are ten times more people in Reinfield City than in Ivory Town. So Reinfield has a higher population density.

Reinfield is also prosperous. This prosperity and the large population are not only because it has a spirit spring that is many times bigger than the spirit spring of a town. Most of its prosperity is because Reinfield is a merchant city.

Reinfield City was established by merchants, not nobles. Many merchants came together and built a city for doing business.

They built Reinfield in an economic location that makes it so that goods from different places are transported through the city. They also built many factories so the city is capable of producing many goods that leave its territory.

The city is demarcated into three rings and many districts. The outer ring is where commoners and workers live. It is also where factories are built.

The inner city is where the wealthy people of the city live. It is the best location that most people will be able to have access to.

The core of the city is where the administration of the city is. It is also where only the people belonging to the initial families that built the city can leave.

After many generations, the families of the merchants that built Reinfield City have become noble families. These nobles have staked their claim over the core of the city.

Just like they don’t let outsiders live with them, they don’t let outsiders take up important administrative positions either. They might compete among themselves, but they will never let outsiders encroach on their territories.

Legion doesn’t care about political power anyway. The only thing they care about is growing stronger. So if it were up to them, they would be in the basement of their house forever, slowly growing stronger.

Unfortunately, some things aren’t up to them. If they want to grow stronger, they must assimilate more divine flesh. But before they can assimilate divine flesh, they must meet the advancement requirements of the pathway.

They have four pathways whose advancement requirements they have to meet. Some of these advancement requirements are easy to fulfill. But some of them are difficult to do.

Besides that, they have a lot of divine flesh that they need to sell. They got these divine fleshes from the lamp bearers.

They also need to acquire the rank 4 divine flesh that they need to advance. The lamp bearers didn’t have rank 4 divine flesh lying around.

It is difficult to say which obstacle is more difficult to clear between the advancement requirements and acquiring the divine flesh they need to rank up.

Even though Reinfield is prosperous and they can acquire divine flesh up to rank 6 here, some divine flesh will still be very difficult to acquire.

The divine flesh from the pathway of the telepath and the pathway of the slaver are examples of this difficult-to-acquire divine flesh. They are not even allowed to openly search for them, even though the lamp bearers have no foothold in Reinfield.

Not only is the divine flesh of these two pathways scarce, but anyone looking for them will also have the tendency to become scarce. Anything and anyone can become scarce when there are forces actively getting rid of them.

Just thinking about the difficulty of their goals made them sigh in regret.

Legion-1 said, “At least, the divine flesh of the pathway of killing and the pathway of undying won’t be difficult to acquire.”

Legion-6 nodded and said, “That’s true. We can go to any major merchant and acquire it. So if we want something less savory, like the divine flesh of the pathway of slavery, we should go to the dark and secret places to look for it.”

Legion-3 agreed. “There have to be dark places in this world. I bet the nobles know about it more than the commoners. So we should go and ask a noble for advice.”

It is common knowledge that no one is allowed to use the pathway of slavery. They also know that if there is anyone who can break this rule and still live, the person is likely to be a member of the privileged class.

They don’t think that all nobles are secretly using the power of the pathway of slavery, but they are sure that every noble is doing something dark and shady.

They are also sure that if there is anyone who knows where to go in order to do something dark and shady, it will be a noble. This certainty comes from their numerous life experiences.

So they made up their minds to enslave a noble and use the noble to do things that they can’t do easily on their own. Even if the noble can’t help them with finding the divine flesh that they need, the noble will help them with other things.

But first, they decided to advance their two other pathways that they can in order to reach rank 4. They want to advance to rank 4 and become epic beings first because this will help them use the Bloody Heart divine artifact better.
