Ding Xuelan felt her heart tremble when she heard the footsteps coming to a stop in front of her door. Even though she did not know who was standing outside, she had a feeling that there must be something wrong.

Never before had he done such a foolish thing as fighting with anyone when she needed him. What in the world happened for him to lose his temper?

The sense of foreboding started to get stronger and while lying on the bed Ding Xuelan turned to look at Sister Shao and asked her, “What’s going on? Sister Shao? What should I know?”
Sister Shao now felt guilty. How was she supposed to tell Ding Xuelan such explosive news? But when Ding Xuelan continued to press her, she had no other choice but to come out clean, “It’s nothing— it is just…It is just that Nuan Nuan is not your —not your daughter.”
After speaking she closed her eyes hurriedly as if worried to face the worst but when she did not hear Ding Xuelan react, she opened her eyes and peered at the woman. It seemed like the truth shocked Ding Xuelan to the point where she couldn’t even breathe.
Her face was turning purple from pale as something was suffocating her.
“Xuelan! Xuelan! It is not worth dying over a mer like that! Don’t —calm yourself down!” Sister Shao said to Ding Xuelan.
Calm yourself down? Fart! She could never calm herself down! How could she when she found out that the daughter she was raising was actually not hers?
“A—are you sure?” Ding Xuelan asked, feeling annoyed and angry. She wished her legs were working fine if they were then she would have killed Gu Mo on her own! How dare that mer!
On the other hand, Yu Dong had no idea that Ding Xuelan was grieving over her inability to walk and even if she did, she wouldn’t have cared. Of course, she would have lamented as it meant that the father and daughter pair escaped a well-deserved beating.
Yu Dong stepped down from the carriage as it came to a halt and the second she stepped down her husbands came rushing out of the house. The sound of the carriage could be heard from three feet away.
And thus they were all waiting for Yu Dong who had snatched Yu Mai away from the dining table.
Yu Dong felt her heart soften when she saw them waiting for her. But as she walked over to where they were standing she still said to them, “Why are you standing here? Isn’t it hot? Go inside.”
“What do you mean by waiting here?” Ye Liu took the sleeping Yu Mai from Yu Dong’s arms and hugged him. He carefully looked at the mer and heaved a sigh of relief before saying, “Why did you take Mai with you and that too without telling us anything!? We were so worried that something happened.”
Others nodded as well.
Yu Dong: “…” I got happy for nothing. They were worried about Yu Mai and not me!
She rolled her eyes before saying, “If I hadn’t taken him, he would have been wronged to death.”
As she spoke she headed inside the house leaving the mers to stand outside with a shocked look on their face. They all looked at one another before chasing after Yu Dong inside the house Shen Li asked, “What do you mean by wronged?”
“Yeah, who wronged him?”
“Is it that girl again?” Chen Mi growled as he made a guess.
Yu Dong nodded as she relayed what happened at the medicinal hall to her husbands. “And she said that it was Yu Mai who had died and returned as a mountain spirit, who pushed her causing her to be bitten by the bees.”
“What!?” Her husbands’ enraged voice echoed in the living hall.
“I knew that girl was not a good thing,” Chen Mi repeated for the twentieth time. “Look at her, she is so young and yet she is so vicious. How could she even come up with such a dangerous scheme!”
If it was proven that Yu Mai was truly a mountain spirit, his future would have been ruined.
No, forget about his future he would have been caught and killed by others! How dare she say such ruthless things without considering the consequences?
“She is speaking nonsense. Mai was playing with Little Ru in the backyard,” Fang Chi who knew the impact of rumour fretfully said to Yu Dong. “Was it resolved?”
“It was resolved,” Yu Dong nodded. “It is a good thing that I brought Mai with me or else the pot of blame would have been difficult to push off. If we hadn’t gone, then things would have turned really difficult as by the time rumours would have already stopped.”
“Then how did you make that girl shut her mouth?” Ye Liu asked angrily when he thought about how Yu Mai was wronged by that girl, he hated her so much that he wished he could smack her on the bottom.
That girl wasn’t taught well which was why she became like this.
