Lian Xi’s expression changed instantly, a cold gleam flashing through his eyes, “What, Brother Huang, are you scared?”
“Have we come this far to back out now?” he asked sarcastically.
“I am indeed scared.” Huang Jiu replied nonchalantly, nodding, “I’m scared you’ll blunder again.”
“The Yun Chong Lower Courtyard was destroyed, and you gained nothing. If you’re not confident, you’d better tell me in advance. I don’t want Yun Chong Lower Courtyard to end up like the Dian River Lower Courtyard.”
Lian Xi’s face twitched at this, and he couldn’t help but defend himself, “That monster is mysteriously unpredictable and difficult to track; I was inexperienced and had to act hastily, which is why I blundered.”
“But it was also that encounter that allowed me to grasp the distinctive aura of that strange monster.”
“That’s why the Nightmare Victory Spell took effect so quickly. Just hold on for two more days, and that monster won’t be able to escape my lock!”
Huang Jiu nodded noncommittally.
“Are you sure there won’t be any more mistakes?” he stared intently at Lian Xi and asked.
“I guarantee it!” Lian Xi immediately asserted confidently.
However, no sooner had he spoken than a series of roars suddenly erupted from the clouds, and the smoke that had just stabilized midair began to churn violently again!
Lian Xi’s face darkened instantly.
He didn’t have time to explain and began to chant rapidly. An invisible force transformed into layers of nets, swiftly tightening around the inside of the smoke.
…
To the north of Chongmei Mountain on Three-leaf Island, a dense fog that couldn’t be dispersed tightly enveloped the three small islands.
It seemed as though some invisible force was suppressing it, making the water surface around it smooth as a mirror, without a ripple.
Inside the island’s forests, the sounds of insects and birds had disappeared, leaving an eerie silence all around.
On the southern peak of the small island, Chen Mu sat on a large tree branch, hidden within the dense canopy. He operated his Breath Ending Divine Ability, completely concealing his presence.
Before long, a little paper man surreptitiously floated out of the dense forest, looking back every three steps, with seven or eight Netherworld Worms, each bearing a human head, obediently following him.
Chen Mu promptly executed the Five Ghosts Moving Mountain, skillfully swallowing the Netherworld Worms into the Five Ghosts Bag.
In the past quarter of an hour, five small paper men had made repeated excursions, easily bringing back over a hundred Netherworld Worms to him.
“Well done!” Chen Mu extended a finger and gently stroked the top of the little paper man’s head.
The little paper man immediately squinted and grinned, emitting a series of sharp, playful laughs.
“Shh! Quietly lure the Netherworld Worms, we can’t wake the Strange Demon,” Chen Mu cautioned, holding up his finger.
The little paper man instantly restrained his expression, crouched, and stealthily floated back into the thick fog.
Chen Mu had originally planned to attack forcefully, raiding the Netherworld Worms while simultaneously sending the Strange Demon on its way.
But before he could act, he noticed that the Strange Demon on Three-leaf Island was unusually calm, as if it were asleep, lacking the chaotic, frenzied, and all-consuming aggressive mood typical of Strange Demons.
“It’s good that it’s not aggressive. This way, I can quietly abduct all the peripheral Netherworld Worms without a sound!” Observing the hundreds of small and large Ghosts added to his Five Ghosts Bag, Chen Mu smiled.
“Indeed, good deeds are rewarded.”
“I haven’t even helped the Strange Demon find release yet, and it’s already sending a great gift my way.”
“Ha ha…”
…
An hour later.
Just as Chen Mu was joyfully collecting a new batch of Netherworld Worms.
Buzz!
The air around him suddenly vibrated, light twisted, and a bedroom-sized, semi-transparent cat head abruptly materialized.
In the blink of an eye, it shifted from an illusion to a solid form.
Its fur was pitch-black, with dense, interlocking Fanged Teeth protruding around its mouth, and its head was covered with large and small bright yellow pupils.
A mere glance from Chen Mu, and a force of intimidation penetrated his mind. He instantly felt dizzy and terrified as if an Immobilization Spell had been cast, freezing him in place, unable to move.
Then the ferocious cat head suddenly opened its wide mouth full of sharp teeth, biting towards Chen Mu as if to sever him in half.
Clang!
Black smoke twined with silvery threads appeared next to Chen Mu, and dozens of uneven pale sharp teeth were instantly shattered by the backlash from the Five Dragon Dharma Body.
Chen Mu looked expressionlessly at the cat head straining close at hand, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
With black smoke threaded with silver strands, it suddenly expanded with a buzz, and a pitch-black dragon’s head emerged. The eerie head, brimming with eyes, had most of it bitten off instantly, transforming into white smoke that dispersed.
Chen Mu’s figure flickered and turned into a gust of Yin Wind, shooting into the sky.
Looking down, he noticed that, unbeknownst to him, nine huge and fierce cat heads had vaguely appeared beneath the clouds.
Their foreheads were all covered with bizarre eyes—some bright yellow, some blood red, some pitch black, some deep blue.
“It seems they have finally awoken, what a pity…”
He originally only intended to stealthily abscond with the Netherworld Worm.
Five Dragon Dharma Body!
With a roar, five dragon heads, each as tall as two or three stories, materialized above Three-leaf Island. The air churned, dispersing the clouds above as if a tidal wave had spread in all directions.
Chen Mu, floating mid-air, looked down expressionlessly.
“Since they’ve awoken, there’s no need for secrecy anymore.”
“Five Ghosts Moving Mountain!”
Immediately, the Five Ghosts Paper Man turned into dozens of dense black smoke trails, slithering like hungry snakes, darting chaotically around Three-leaf Island.
With an angered roar, the nine fierce cat heads tore through the mist and surged towards the sky.
However, Chen Mu remained unfazed, swinging his right hand downward.
The Five Dragon Dharma Body suddenly plummeted, its surroundings engulfed by turbulent air currents, descending ferociously like a meteor.
It looked like a collision was imminent.
But in the next moment, with a swift sound, those nine massive heads abruptly vanished.
Then, like a poorly transmitted video signal, they appeared and disappeared intermittently, flickering continuously. The expressions on those fierce cat heads alternated between savage ferocity and calm confusion.
Chen Mu furrowed his brow, swiftly retracting the Five Dragon Dharma Body to guard his side.
This Strange Demon was not right!
Whether it was its previous slumber or its current transformation, none of it was typical for Strange Demons. It was as if… as if an invisible person was helping him suppress it.
Yuan Xian?
Could that old man be so benevolent?
Chen Mu shook his head.
“Forget it, no matter what, I’ll first capture the Netherworld Worm!”
He immediately stopped hesitating and exerted his full strength to activate Five Ghosts Moving Mountain.
The Five Ghosts Paper Men converged and transformed into a large cloud of black smoke, which surged into the white mist.
The Strange Demon let out a poignant scream, trying to bite and chase after the Five Ghosts Black Smoke, but soon fell into a static stupor. It struggled continuously but seemed to be bound by an invisible net, unable to mount any substantial counterattack.
Suddenly, the Strange Demon regained its composure, all its multicolored eyes simultaneously glancing at Chen Mu.
Then, it silently exploded into Netherworld Worms, resembling a school of deep-sea fish.
Before Chen Mu could urge the Five Ghosts Moving Mountain to devour them, an icy cold power emerged from nowhere. With a single sweep, all the Netherworld Worms completely vanished.
…
Atop Chongmei Mountain, inside the northern loft.
Bang!
The entire cloud of smoke burst like the gas from a popped balloon, violently dispersing.
Then, with a crisp crack, the ancient Bronze Incense Burner, like about-to-shatter pottery, suddenly exhibited dense cracks.
Lian Xi’s face instantly turned ashen.
Everything had been fine before, how could this…
Huang Jiu glared at Lian Xi with a grim face: “Is this your guarantee?”
“Dare to fool me, Lian Xi, you’ve got some nerve!”
