I Can See Your Combat Power

Chapter 825: Chapter One Hundred and Nineteen: Threat

Dawn broke, roosters crowed, and what was thought to be a simple outpouring of feelings had unexpectedly taken all night.

Chen Menglu glanced at the pale light in the east and said apologetically to Tang Luo, “I’ve delayed the young friend’s night; I am truly sorry. Should you encounter any trouble in the future, you are welcome to come to Xumi Mountain.”

“Actually, this young one didn’t offer much help, just listened to a story all night,” Tang Luo touched his nose and said with a guilty conscience, “To exchange such a promise from Master Chen for that is really…”

Chen Menglu waved his hand and interrupted, “Let it be considered as me leaving some good karma for the Four Imperial Spirit Clans in Xumi Mountain.”

“Then, I thank Master Chen.”

“It is I who should thank the young friend for being willing to spend a night listening to the old tales of the Four Imperial Spirit Seals,” Chen Menglu replied.

Just as Tang Luo wanted to continue his polite remarks, he noticed that, aside from a cup of tea steaming faintly, the figure of the Illusionary Master had vanished from the seat opposite him.

Silently collecting the tea set, Tang Luo sat back at his desk, intending to pick up his pen and continue his study of the mystic teachings, but his mind was cluttered, not knowing where to start, filled with the stories of Chen Menglu and the Four Imperial Spirit Clans.

He was not really a busybody; being aloof from worldly affairs, he had a strong sense of boundaries – apart from his own most cared-for family members, everyone else was viewed equally.

Perhaps because he bore the memories of another world, he didn’t integrate well into this one, feeling that others would find it difficult to understand him, and he found it hard to communicate with them.

His dedicated practice of martial arts, beyond the love for it, was also driven by fear; he was frightened that all of this was but an illusionary dream, and upon awakening, he would still be that ordinary young person on Earth.

Since his transcendence, he had never slept again, not just because his cultivation could replace rest, but also for other reasons.

He thought such fears were unique to him, but after hearing Chen Menglu’s story, he felt that perhaps this Illusionary Master with the Heaven-level Bloodline harbored just as much fear in his heart.

As the guardian of a world, the last practitioner of a complete cultivation system, the moment he died, the moment the Illusionary Dream Space shattered,

who else would know that in this world there once was a branch of the Human Race known as the Four Imperial Spirit Clans who once, to expose the darkness of the ancient Divine Dynasty, wandered in the void for a thousand years and brought back to life a lost legacy of a bygone world.

Perhaps Chen Menglu’s obsession wasn’t because the future of the King Realm was so critical, but because he wanted to use his existence to protect this greatness.

Even if to others, this greatness might not seem all that incredible.

But what have these obsessions got to do with me… Holding the pen in hand, Tang Luo frowned and chided himself aloud,

“Tang Luo, mind your own business. So many Martial Arts Grandmasters on Martial Saint Mountain have condemned the Four Imperial Spirit Seals to death. You’ve done the calculations yourself; attempting to reestablish the mixed element using four types of elements is simply daydreaming. Wasting time on studying such techniques is to court heavenly wrath!”

“Whether Chen Menglu regrets his choices or not is none of your business. He chose his own path, and even in death, he would taste it as sweet as honey. If you butt in, you’re just being foolish. You might as well go back to Longxi and research those Han Family collections in the Scripture Pavilion; at least there, you might find a way forward!”

“Damn it, I know all that, but I just can’t convince myself,” Bu Xiao lamented.

“Snap.”

With a crack, Tang Luo broke the bamboo pen in his hand. Looking at the fragments in his palm, he muttered resentfully, “You say this guy can’t find his way, and he can’t find it, but why did he come to my room, spouting stories about the Four Imperial Spirit Clans and the Four Imperial Spirit Seals? I’m here to listen to stories, not to write them! The fragments of the Four Imperial Spirit Realms have already merged into the Great Thousand World. Can’t it all just end here? I have enough troubles as it is. Telling me is of no use! Wow, the schemes of today’s Grandmasters are so deep!”

Had Chen Menglu come to seek help, Tang Luo’s refusal would have been the end of it. However, the man had not asked for help but merely told the story of the Four Imperial Spirit Realms and, upon leaving, left behind a significant favor.

This left Tang Luo so annoyed and distracted that he couldn’t concentrate on his studies. He could have used the secret technique of a clear and bright Dao Heart to calm himself forcibly, but he simply couldn’t make up his mind. For the first time, he who practiced with the intent of following his heart, felt the desire to do something foolish.

“Just one day!” Tang Luo picked up another bamboo pen from the holder and declared earnestly, “I’ll spend just one day deducing the way forward for the Four Imperial Spirit Seals. If I can’t figure it out, so be it. But if I can, it would not be in vain for having listened to a night of stories!”

Bifang Mountain, Inner Hall Discussion Chamber

Several Grandmasters were engaged in an unending debate over the rankings for the twentieth Martial Arts Tournament. The focus of their contention was the suddenly emerging Tang Luo.

“This youngster is too dangerous to overlook. He dismisses the social etiquette and hierarchies of the human world, treating them as nothing. If we allow him to grow, he could become another evil deity from Beimang. Have you forgotten the scenes of bloodshed?”

“Grandmaster Luo is being overly alarmist,” came the resounding response from Wei Hanyuan. “The evil deity from Beimang grew up in loneliness, with only the darkest and fiercest aspects of the lower realms in his eyes. It’s completely normal for someone who grew up in such an environment to become unruly and isolated. But Tang Luo was raised within the Tang family in Xiling, and his mother is a lady from the Xu Clan of Yuanzhou. He has led a privileged life since childhood. Combined with his extraordinary talent, it’s totally normal for such a young man to be somewhat arrogant and to believe in the nobility of one’s own birth, but to become a demonic maniac like that deity? I’m sorry, I cannot concur.”

Hearing Wei Hanyuan’s emphatic rebuttal, the other Grandmasters nodded. At their level of cultivation, each possessed highly independent judgment.

Lumping a young man of limitless potential together with demons just because they share the same divine power was not something they could easily agree upon, especially since Luo QingChi was a Grandmaster from Qilin Mountain. His malicious words against Tang Luo required careful consideration.

Luo QingChi, seeing that his words were not taken seriously by the other Grandmasters, took out another scroll from his bosom, placed it on the table and said to everyone, “If it was just Luo’s personal opinion, you could dismiss it. But what about Yankong, the Buddha Son from the Buddha’s Country of Zhongzhou? He has no grudges against Tang Luo, and he even wished to take Tang Xing as his disciple to pass on his legacy. According to the Zen tradition, even if the bloody past of the Tang family in Xiling were to be exposed, they would still stand by him if Tang Xing entered the Buddhist path. But he said that Tang Luo is a Mara that has descended into the mortal world. Gentlemen, do you really think I would slander a scion of a noble family out of pettiness because of a Dao Child’s defeat at Qilin Mountain?”

The Sacred Land Dao Children of this era were indeed famous, especially Yankong, who had restored the Sutra of No Suffering and Extinction, and was favored by many Sacred Land Sect Masters.

If the future of Bu Xiao, Wang Chan, and Old Xu Ying still needed time to prove, almost no one doubted whether Yankong could succeed in his ascension to king.

Such an esteemed judgment naturally made the Grandmasters take pause, and after passing the scroll among themselves and reading its contents, the Grandmasters of Bifang Mountain fell silent.
