"Feather King…seems to have been defeated?"
"How could the unbeatable Feather King be defeated? In these past few months, she has traveled across the land, challenging not only us martial artists, but even the powerful demons in the mountains. How could anyone overcome her?"
"Is the Qiao family member from Nan Province and Zhong Province really stronger than the Feather King?"
The sight of the Feather King Army outside the city, by the Sky Piercing River, left everyone stunned, unable to believe what they were seeing.
"Rescue the Feather King!" Jade Carp’s face turned pale at the sight, wanting to command her troops to buy precious time for the defeated Feather King.
But trying to help from afar could not solve the immediate problem, as everyone knew it was a futile attempt.
On the city gate tower, Lord Chen put down his All-Seeing Mirror, his hands trembling slightly, shocked and unable to comprehend the unexpected outcome.
"Did they really win? Did this siege of the city get resolved by a Zhong Province martial artist who came alone?"
Lord Chen and the soldiers on the city wall didn’t expect the arrival of Qiao Mu, a martial artist from afar. The battle of the city was originally between Linhe City and the Feather King Army, and no one expected that a third person would actually change the course of the war.
Lord Chen pondered:
"Although the Feather King Army is powerful, without their leader, the Feather King, their morale will surely plummet. We are not without the strength to fight…"
The soldiers on the city wall became excited, discussing how to leave the city to pursue and counterattack the Feather King Army.
These conversations were also heard by two cultivators from the Yunxiao Sect, Yu Shan, in the sky above.
The skilled martial artists were sensitive to any disturbances and refrained from using their divine senses to avoid alerting the two individuals and interfering with the situation.
However, the ordinary people didn’t have such concerns.
"These ordinary people are making a lot of noise," remarked Taoist Child Yu Shan with a furrowed brow.
"For ordinary folks who haven’t embarked on the path of cultivation, this is how it is," said the Nascent Soul Elder with a light tone.
"Immortals live in the mountains. The way of cultivating immortality involves letting go of emotions, leaving only a heart devoted to the path."
"Take for example the Feather King, who was poisoned by the Spear Saint since childhood. A noble bird of divine bloodline, but because of killing some ordinary people and causing others to die, she ended up in a terrible state. I found it quite amusing."
"The laws of the court, the morals and rituals of ordinary people, are merely self-restrictions."
"By casting aside meaningless moral constraints, one can step by step ascend the mountain and become an immortal of the mountain…"
Taoist Child Yu Shan frowned deeply as he listened from the side.
It wasn’t because he thought Immortal Yu Hua’s words were wrong, but purely because – he casually mentioned something, and Immortal Yu Hua started talking about the way of cultivating immortality?
If someone didn’t know, they might think he was Immortal Yu Hua’s disciple.
"Senior brother," he interrupted Immortal Yu Hua’s incessant speech.
"Is this Sky Piercing River prepared thoroughly?"
"Of course," Immortal Yu Hua nodded.
"This matter is of great importance, that’s why it is presided over by the sixth person in our sect, naturally there will be no mistakes."
The rain gradually grew stronger, and the tide of Sky Piercing River slowly rose, approaching the riverbank.
Immortal Yu Hua was here to ensure that Feather King Qin Li’s death was flawless, dying with the utmost hatred in his heart.
"Feather King’s fame was at its peak, about to conquer the largest city in the Southwest Province, but died at the hands of his enemies," Immortal Yu Hua said. ꭆΆΝȎΒΕṠ
"Although such regrets and hatred run deep, adding a bit more drama always makes it better."
"Before dying, witnessing the grand tide of Sky Piercing River, the prolonged battle between the two armies ends in laughter, comrades and enemy soldiers alike submerged in the floodwaters."
"Ending this way, it’s perfect."
"Is there a good chance we can create a Jingwei?" asked Taoist Child Yu Shan.
"Thirty percent."
"Only thirty percent?"
"Jingwei is an ancient divine bird, achieving thirty percent is the result of our Yunxiao Sect’s efforts for many years and deep research on the Jingwei clan," said Immortal Yu Hua.
"Do your best, and leave the rest to fate. Thirty percent is in our hands, seventy percent is in the hands of the heavens."
"Although we only have a thirty percent chance, if this succeeds… the deep resentment of the Jingwei Bird is extraordinary," Immortal Yu Hua said.
"Ghosts are remnants of attachment."
"Those with Jingwei blood may possibly transform into Jingwei monsters after death, a mythological creature born out of attachment."
"The deeper the attachment, the longer the Jingwei monster can exist."
"In the beginning, the Jingwei Bird was said to be persistent and everlasting, living for tens of thousands of years until the East Sea dried up and it disappeared."
Taoist Child Yu Shan nodded, feeling a bit regretful.
"In the long years, even the vast sea can turn into mulberry fields."
"If the original Jingwei Bird had a greater enemy than the ocean, perhaps it could have lived even longer."
"This is our plan for today," said Immortal Yu Hua.
Taoist Child Yu Shan seemed to be thinking, looking a bit worried as he asked:
"But the Jingwei Bird is an ancient divine bird after all. If it becomes nearly immortal, wouldn’t it become a great enemy to the Immortal Gate that we created?"
Upon hearing this, Immortal Yu Hua chuckled.
"The Feather King, as a half-demon, practices mortal martial arts, but whether it’s a monster or human, the weaker ones will always be subdued. Besides, our Immortal Gate has its own tricks up its sleeve," said Immortal Yu Hua.
He was a beginner soul cultivator, able to control the power of heaven and earth that could collapse rivers and cause wild winds to destroy cities with a mere wave of his hand.
In such a state, in the eyes of the people, he was no different from a True Immortal…
After all, among ordinary people, martial artists at their peak were only slightly more sensitive than 1st ranked martial artists, their physical bodies and internal strength were not worth mentioning.
Only a few exceptional geniuses could become superb martial artists, but they were not systematic, how could they compare to the ancient immortal path that has been passed down through the ages?
Practicing martial arts can never defeat cultivating immortals.
Forty years ago, the Immortal Gate had already investigated the so-called superb martial artists.
The former self-proclaimed greatest martial artist in the world, with the grand title of Earth Sword Immortal… ended up facing cultivators without even the will to fight.
The other superb martial artists below Earth Sword Immortal were even worse off.
In the fleeting forty years, with just a period of seclusion, could these martial artists really change their fate?
Although Feather King Qin Li was not weak, he was actually stronger than the Spear Saint at the beginning. However, in the eyes of the Immortal Gate, this was mainly because Qing Li carried demon blood.
Yu Shan stood nearby, his eyes flickering as he suddenly remembered the Qiao family member who seemed like a great demon…
Despite the confusion in his mind, he pushed down this thought and didn’t warn Immortal Yu Hua.
………………………
The sky was dark and low, as if it was about to collapse. The dark clouds loomed overhead, seeming closer to the earth than ever before.
The tides surged and roared by the Sky Piercing River, with the sound of waves rising and falling.
"Take action!"
"Slay the traitor!"
Feather King sat on the ground, holding his breath and waiting for his death.
However, after a long time had passed, there was no response from behind.
When he turned around, he saw a bloodied figure standing behind him, seemingly more injured than himself.
Qing Li’s eyes flickered slightly, showing a hint of confusion.
Previously in Taotie City, witnessing Qiao Mu effortlessly using the Heavenly Demon Disintegration Method, although brutal, he was still lively and energetic afterwards… she had thought it was just a minor skill with limited consequences.
How come today, upon seeing him looking worse off than herself, his vitality was rapidly declining.
Although Qing Li anticipated a grand death, there was no need for Qiao Mu to risk his life in acting for her.
"Is the nostalgia over?" Qiao Mu’s words immediately disrupted the long-awaited atmosphere:
"With a heart set on death, arranging one’s own demise, using one’s reputation and lifelong martial arts as stepping stones, creating a hero who slays kings."
Qiao Mu stared directly at Qing Li, "But given the current circumstances, why not challenge the Immortal Gate?"
Qing Li hesitated for a moment before speaking:
"This kind of death doesn’t hold much meaning."
"If the Feather King were to die like this, another king would emerge in the Southwest Province, and the situation in the Southwest Province wouldn’t improve at all."
"Only by using the Feather King as a stepping stone can the Qiao family member, with such a reputation as a hero, rise to fame—"
Qiao Mu interrupted directly:
"If the Qiao family member takes on this burden, can they defeat the Immortal Gate and not fear being killed by cultivators?"
Believe it or not, he’s not afraid.
Whether or not he takes on this burden is a different story… after all, he’s not one to invite trouble, and the taste of dying in battle or being imprisoned is far from delightful… He truly isn’t afraid of death.
But he wouldn’t say it out loud. Instead, he stood up defiantly:
"You only think about yourself, have you ever considered the feelings of the Qiao family member?"
Qing Li was speechless.
For someone burdened with heavy moral constraints like her, there was truly nothing to say.
Qiao Mu actually knew as well.
The focus of this question isn’t whether the Qiao family member fears death, but rather Qing Li’s way of thinking.
She initially had thoughts of seeking death, then, driven by a desire to make amends, she used her own death as a stepping stone to create a hero in the next life.
It could be considered as the final act.
"In your heart, there has always been an invisible shackle." Qiao Mu’s gaze was sharp, as he unleashed the Eye Sword Technique, ruthlessly intimidating Qing Li’s mind:
"The Immortal Gate is evil, and you know that the Immortal Gate is powerful, so you compromised and became a lackey of the Immortal Gate."
"Feather King is Qing Li, and Qing Li is Feather King, no matter how you split it, they are the same person."
"Compromise one step, compromise every step. Until mistakes are irreparable and irreversible."
"In the end, your choices are all punishing yourself, giving away your skills and reputation, offering everything to others, seeking redemption through death."
These words are not about right or wrong, they aim to penetrate Qing Li’s defenses with the Eye Sword Technique and words.
"Not drawing the sword against the Immortal Gate, ultimately, it is more useful not to die by my hands," Qiao Mu said slowly.
"But it’s the fact that you make mistakes and only punish yourself, trying hard to make amends, that’s what matters…."
"I don’t like this way of dying."
Qing Li’s forehead immediately wrinkled.
While she was indeed touched, there was also a feeling of displeasure.
She stood up in the rain, pointing towards the gate of Linhe City, towards the collapsed section of the city wall. Inside and outside the wall were corpses and bloodstains washed away by the rain, and she calmly said:
"At this point, does Mr. Qiao still intend to persuade the Feather King to just survive?"
"I cannot convince someone determined to die to keep on living," Qiao Mu shook his head.
"But I am more skilled at finding a path to death, perhaps I can find a different way to die."
Qiao Mu spoke slowly:
"The Qiao family motto: Instead of blaming oneself, it is better to blame others."
"When you make a mistake, don’t rush to find the reason on yourself. Maybe it’s the world’s fault, isn’t it?"
Qing Li was momentarily stunned, never expecting such words to come from the renowned Qiao family member.
As she turned, she saw Qiao Mu lift his head, looking at the dark clouds that had covered the mansion city from beginning to end. His gaze was sharp, as if piercing through the clouds.
"I’m not saying you’re completely wrong."
"But here at the Immortal Gate Yunxiao Sect is truly the source of chaos in the Southwest Province." He spoke slowly:
"As a martial artist, Joe only longed to soar high in the sky, wishing for wings to ascend to the heavens and defeat immortals."
After saying this, his gaze landed on Feather King Qin Li and her wings, and he continued:
"Being a mortal, one must reach for the skies, use martial arts to battle immortals, and perish from exertion."
"Would you be willing to die this way?"
Qing Li remained silent.
She seemed to be moved by his words but didn’t respond immediately.
She appeared lost in thought, contemplating which way of dying would be more meaningful for herself.
Qiao Mu waited for a while, but Qing Li didn’t respond. He decided not to wait any longer.
He had said his piece, and it was up to her whether she listened or not.
When Qing Li looked up at Qiao Mu again, she saw him bend his knees slightly, the ground beneath his feet cracking and sinking as he soared into the cloudy sky.
"Heavenly Demon Disintegration Method – Heavenly Dragon Eight Steps!"
Qiao Mu was once again surrounded by a strong crimson energy. His skin cracked like a spider’s web, and blood rained down from his body, indicating he was seriously injured.
After using the Heavenly Demon Disintegration Method repeatedly in battle, he was reaching his limit and had little energy left.
The Heavenly Dragon Eight Steps was the top light skill in the world, and Qiao Mu had mastered the first three steps.
It was like a three-part jump, with opportunities for two mid-air accelerations and turns.
When he leaped for the first time and was exhausted, he bent his legs slightly in the air and then forcefully stomped on the air.
With a loud howling sound, the figure suddenly soared into the sky covered by dark clouds.
The view in front of him darkened, and Qiao Mu quickly broke through the clouds, seeing two Taoist monks standing on the cloud.
One of them was Taoist Child Yu Shan, and Qiao Mu felt that the other person seemed much more dangerous… Both of them had the same expressionless faces, showing a brief surprise when he just broke through the clouds, but soon it disappeared.
Qiao Mu locked onto the direction of the two people, his feet stepped down violently again, taking the third step in midair.
The air behind him rippled violently like the surface of water, his figure accelerated suddenly again, heading straight towards the two Taoist monks.
However, neither Yu Shan nor Yu Hua paid much attention.
"He hasn’t even activated Sky Piercing River yet? Is he in such a hurry to die?" Taoist Child Yu Shan spoke.
"Indeed," Immortal Yu Hua said lightly.
"In the sky above, there are thunderclouds everywhere; this person is simply seeking death," he continued.
Immortal Yu Hua raised his hand and made a magical gesture.
The dark clouds overhead suddenly lit up with flashes of lightning, snaking through the sky in all directions, making everything around as bright as daylight.
Amidst the thunderous roar, countless bolts of lightning shot out from the clouds and struck Qiao Mu incessantly.
The blinding flashes of lightning engulfed Qiao Mu in an instant.
