403 Distracted
Fang Su Jin held her breath as she waited for her mentor to give her his feedback.
From the moment she showed her new painting to her mentor, the man has been staring at it for a long time without saying a word. This was really making her anxious.
Fang Su Jin recalled that the last time her mentor had stared at her painting this long was the first time she had shown him her paintings.
Time passed.
After waiting for a long time, Fang Su Jin finally inhaled a deep breath and spoke, “Teacher Jiang.”
Her voice snapped the man out of his trance. Teacher Jiang turned around with a questioning look on his face.
“Teacher Jiang, you have been staring at my painting for a long time. What do you think of it?” Fang Su Jin asked slowly. “Is it not that good?”
A deep frown appeared on his face. Teacher Jiang turned to look at the painting as he tried to come up with an answer. “It’s not that it’s not good.”
Fang Su Jin felt uneasy.
.....
Teacher Jiang turned to look at her again and spoke. “Su Jin, is there something bothering your mind? I just thought that you looked a little confused when you were working on this painting.” He pointed at a spot and continued, “The color you used here was a little strange.”
Fang Su Jin followed her mentor’s gaze and looked at the spot.
She could not deny that she was feeling rather distracted while she was working on this painting. For the past few days, Fang Su Jin has been trying to concentrate on her painting and forget a certain someone.
However, that person continued to appear in her mind. The result was that she became a little absentminded while she was working on the color. When that certain someone appeared in her mind, Fang Su Jin was a little giddy.
Then, she recalled how she haven’t heard anything from that man, and her mood plummeted.
She tried hard to work on this painting, which was the result. Her moods were reflected in this painting.
Fang Su Jin lowered her head as her mentor continued to look at the painting. After a long silence, Fang Su Jin spoke again, “Then, maybe we should not use this painting for that exhibition.”
Teacher Jiang turned quickly. “No. I think that this painting is good enough for the exhibition.” He heaved a sigh and patted his student on her shoulder. “I just thought that this painting was different than your previous one. I did not say that it was not good.”
Fang Su Jin was not convinced. However, after listening to her mentor, she decided to follow his judgment and let this painting be displayed during the exhibition.
The two of them stayed in the room for a while to discuss the upcoming exhibition.
Just as Fang Su Jin was about to leave again, her mentor called her name, making her turn around.
Teacher Jiang smiled. “I just thought that I should let you know that you have to be prepared. I heard that someone from Blue Media Group will come to cover this exhibition.”
Fang Su Jin felt the corner of her lips begin to twitch again. She recalled that someone from Blue Media Group was somehow related to the Zhang family.
Thinking that she will be meeting the people from the last time made her anxious.
She did not think she would be able to give Zhang Yi Hai her answer with the pressure around her.
After spending a long time with her mentor, Fang Su Jin finally left the building.
Fang Su Jin was planning to head home and rest when the phone in her hand began to ring. Seeing her best friend’s name on her caller ID made her smile.
“Fang Su Jin, what are you up to?” Zhang Li Xue’s voice was heard from the other line the moment she pressed her phone to her ear.
“I just ended my meeting with my mentor.”
“Then, are you free?” Zhang Li Xue spoke. “Let’s meet up.”
Fang Su Jin glanced at her watch. “Where should we meet? Do you want me to pick you up?”
“Let’s just meet at the mall nearby the hospital,” Zhang Li Xue said. “You don’t have to worry about me. Bai Qi will send me over.”
“Your Doctor Bai had so much time?”
Zhang Li Xue laughed. “I’m visiting the hospital for a checkup. My leg is recuperating well.”
After thinking about this for a while, Fang Su Jin quickly agreed. After all, she was a little stressed out after meeting her mentor and discussing her paintings. It would be best if she could relax and clear up her mind a little bit.
Fang Su Jin grabbed a cab and headed to the mall that Zhang Li Xue had mentioned.
When she arrived, Fang Su Jin found Zhang Li Xue waiting for her with Bai Qi waiting by her side.
Zhang Li Xue turned to her husband and spoke, “Hubby, I will go with Su Jin now. Don’t worry about me. I will ask someone to pick me up later.”
The couple exchanged a few words. Then Bai Qi leaned over to kiss his wife on the forehead. When he looked up again, Bai Qi turned to Fang Su Jin and spoke, “Miss Fang, I will have to ask you to look after my wife.”
Fang Su Jin laughed. “Doctor Bai, don’t worry. I will keep my eyes on your wife.”
After giving his wife one more kiss on the forehead, Bai Qi finally left the mall.
Fang Su Jin turned to her friend and saw that she was still watching Bai Qi’s silhouette as he left. A heavy sigh escaped her. “Look at you. Are you unwilling to watch your Doctor Bai go?”
A hint of pink appeared on Zhang Li Xue’s cheek. “What are you saying?” She let out a cough and quickly changed the subject between them. “Su Jin, let’s sit at the cafe and talk.”
Fang Su Jin nodded. She pushed the wheelchair until they reached a cafe. The two girls sat down and began to catch up with their recent news.
Zhang Li Xue was reporting to her friend that she was going to return to the office next week when her phone rang.
Fang Su Jin glanced at Zhang Li Xue’s screen and saw the name on the caller ID. Her heartbeat accelerated. Because she was sitting too close to Zhang Li Xue, Fang Su Jin was able to hear Zhang Yi Hai’s voice well.
