1765 Cold and Hot 1
A chilling sensation swept through Gu Chaoyan’s body, causing her to turn pale and yearn for a warm place to seek refuge.
Sensing that something was amiss, Xie Yan looked at her intently. “Are you alright?”
Although Gu Chaoyan still felt uncomfortable, the sensation had subsided to some extent. She used her own warmth to shield against the coldness.
She realized that she had been enduring various minor and major issues all this time. Life at Fengxian Palace, including Huaijin, was far from peaceful. If she could bear with it, she would do so for now.
Forcing a smile, she reassured Xie Yan, “I am fine.”
“….”
“Let’s try a new tea, the first harvest after the spring rain. It has been carefully processed and baked, exuding a delightful aroma. It suits this season quite well. Winter will arrive soon, which isn’t ideal for this tea. Let’s enjoy it while we can,” Gu Chaoyan suggested calmly.
“You possess extensive knowledge of tea, Elder Miss…” Xie Yan began, then corrected himself, “Chaoyan.”
“I’d prefer if you called me Chaoyan since you aren’t working for us. I’m not accustomed to the Queen’s title,” Gu Chaoyan stated frankly.
“Alright.” Xie Yan feigned a slightly aggrieved expression before replying.
Gu Chaoyan let out a laugh, finding Xie Yan’s playful side quite enjoyable.
Soon, Gu Chaoyan rose from her seat. “Lingyun has been working on some medicines lately. I should go and check on her. Mr. Xie, please continue enjoying the tea.”
Xie Yan nodded, his gaze following her as she departed.
He felt perplexed.
Normally, Gu Chaoyan would engage in lengthy conversations with him, eagerly seeking his insights and opinions on various matters. A clever woman like her wouldn’t waste her time and effort without a purpose.
Her sudden departure, in such a rush, was unusual compared to her usual interactions with people.
Xie Yan couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss, but he couldn’t quite pinpoint what it was.
As Gu Chaoyan stepped into the garden…
Sword One swiftly grabbed hold of her. “Elder Miss, were you feeling unwell just now? I will inform the King.”
Gu Chaoyan firmly held onto Sword One’s arm. “Don’t. I simply felt a bit unwell, but I’m fine now. He is occupied with matters concerning Shiling Palace, and it demands his full attention. Please, don’t inform him about this. Let’s go see Lingyun instead. She is knowledgeable about medicines. The King is unaware of all this. If he finds out, he will become overly concerned.”
Sword One relented upon hearing her explanation.
Gu Chaoyan made her way to Lingyun’s location.
Lingyun had been tirelessly working on finding a solution to Gu Chaoyan’s ailment. She had been conducting research and experimenting with various herbs, yet no clear breakthrough had surfaced thus far.
As Gu Chaoyan arrived, Lingyun was engrossed in studying poisonous herbs.
Gu Chaoyan found a vacant spot and took a seat.
Her gaze landed on an item that seemed to originate from Piaomiao Pavilion. It triggered a memory, prompting her to inquire, “Did Wuxing visit you?”
Lingyun nodded, acknowledging the item in question.
It was a token he had given her, but she hadn’t responded to the message. She didn’t wish to waste time on such matters, as her priority was finding a solution for Elder Miss.
“When you have the opportunity, you can reply to him.”
