Of all the people they imagined coming through that door, Blake never expected that he would see his father, Ozacas. Maybe Midwak returning or Ylva checking up on them, but to see the hunter and for him to be on his own.
“Blake… and Innu, it’s good to see that the two of you are safe,” Ozacas said as he wandered over. He used his hand to touch the vine and was testing the shackles to see how easy or what would be needed to break them.
“You know, I know I’m just an afterthought, but I didn’t like how long it took for him to say my name there,” Innu commented.
“Father, how did you find us?” Blake asked.
After seeing the shackle, Ozacas had figured out just touching the vines on the outside was drawing some of his energy. So he drew his sword, and sliced at them, they broke off quite free.
He was quickly doing this for all four that were attached not just to Blake, but to Innu as well.
“I was with Edvard and Donald, they had agreed to come with me to try and find you, but the situation had changed,” Ozacas explained. “We learned that all the gardens toward the back near the castle, they had moved their Ironfang leaders to the front Gardens.
“They had predicted that we would call for backup and I imagine they’re trying to finish off the Altered hunters in one swoop.”
Both Innu and Blake, being in the Altered hunters and the front lines of this war long enough, knew what that meant. They were already heavily weakened. They didn’t know the full extent of the situation due to how early they had been captured, but Ylva had often bragged about how well they were doing.
Blake didn’t know if it was just Ylva trying to annoy them at the time, but now the words seemed more true compared to before.
“Why didn’t you go back with Edvard then?” Blake asked. “All of the Altered hunters, they could be in trouble, and you, a five-star hunter, they could need you.”
Ozacas drew back his weapon, he had finished cutting off the vines and now there was just the metal shackles. He was drawing the power from his sword, ready to swing and break the shackle in one hit.
He could see they were incredibly sturdy. They didn’t look like the type that were used to hold any humans, that was for sure.
“Are you being stupid, how could I, when I know my only son is in trouble, go back!” Ozacas said as he swung the sword and hit the chain hard. It had made a big dent in the chain, but it was unable to break through it in one clean hit.
Ozacas then pulled his sword back again and started to draw power into his sword one more time.
It was the first time for Blake to see his father caring about him. It was the first time he had seen his father choose him over the Altered hunters. There were so many times where Blake wanted to just have a conversation with his father, and not Ozacas from the Altered hunters.
Part of the reason Blake had joined the Altered hunters was so he could see him, but even when they were in the Altered hunters, Blake was unable to talk to his father freely and only as a colleague.
However, this entire time, Blake had been calling him father, and his father calling him son, and he hadn’t told him off for it, or told him off. This was all the actions of his father.
“I searched the Garden nearest to where the two of you disappeared. I had entered the Garden and I decided to search every single corner of it before I would move onto the next one,” Ozacas answered.
The two imagined that couldn’t be easy. Even if the Ironfang had left the place, they would have left some Werewolves in the Garden. They always did no matter what. So his father had to have attacked a large number of them.
When Blake took a closer look at his father, he could see his breathing was hardening. He had sweat running down the side of his face, he was tired. He had to have been searching every area as fast as possible.
Searching top to bottom and fighting, not drawing attention, all to look for his son. It was strange to say, that a moment of Blake being captured by the enemy might have been the happiest moment of his life, and one that he would remember for a long time.
Giving it another large swing, the sword had cut right through the chain, and finally one part was cut off, a single arm of Blake’s was now dangling free.
“I haven’t gotten rid of the shackle, but I’ll just cut you all free first,” Ozacas said, as he got ready to swing again at the rest.
“Did you run into Midwak or Ylva?” Innu asked.
“Midwak or Ylva, who’s that?” Ozacas asked.
Innu almost forgot, of course Blake’s father wouldn’t know them on a full name basis, but if he had run into them, would you have been able to have got here?
“Break down the door to the storage room,” Innu said. “If you do, I can help break out of these things quicker.”
At first Ozacas thought it was strange, how could that help at all, but Blake had agreed.
“Please, Dad,” Blake asked.
“Alright,” Ozacas said as he headed to the door, until he heard footsteps creaking in from behind.
“An uninvited guest. You know I don’t like intruders who have entered my home,” Ylva said.
