My Werewolf System

Chapter 1358: Can I Have a Power?

Innu had been away from the group for a while, and during that time, he had learned a lot.

He’d found a mentor among the Altered Hunters, one who had taught him the power of telekinesis. And on top of that, during his time with the Altered Hunters, he had also learned to harness and utilize the power of Qi.

Combining these two skills with the beast weapons he already used in combat, Innu had become a serious force on the Howlers team. And all of this, without being a Werewolf or an Altered himself.

Yet now, upon returning to the group, he hadn’t even had the time to fully explain what he’d learned or how it could potentially help the others.

“Honestly though, I don’t mind teaching you, Gary, of course I don’t,” Innu replied with a small grin. “But the thing is, I don’t even know the first thing about teaching it to someone else. I could try and copy what my teacher showed me, but it took time… and who knows if Werewolves can even learn powers like this.”

He scratched the back of his head, thoughtful.

“I mean, you already have some powers, right? You’ve got those massive transformations, plus the fire powers you picked up after consuming Sin. So is this even something you can learn?”

The truth was, Gary didn’t know the answer to that either.

But there was one thing he couldn’t ignore. When the Vampires had attacked before, they’d used strange powers on top of their usual red aura and natural Vampire abilities. If Vampires could learn powers… then what was stopping Werewolves from learning them too?

“I do remember talking to Kai about an incident,” Gary said. “When he attacked Notsburg, he mentioned that someone had disguised themselves as Midwak. That had to be one of these powers too.”

He frowned, thinking hard.

“But now that I really think about it… that person was human, not a Werewolf. I wish I could ask someone about all this. If I was in contact with my dad, he’d probably know.”

“How do your powers work anyway?” Kevin asked, curious.

“I’m not really sure,” Innu replied, looking at his own hands. “It feels like… a separate kind of energy from the one I usually have. So, say if we all just have our normal energy, our everyday stamina, that’s what I use to fight, to run, to enhance myself.”

He paused, then continued.

“But it feels like there are two more pools of energy I can draw from. One of them is what we learned as Qi. I use that to enhance my body and activate my weapon. When I channel Qi through the beast weapon, the power drawn back actually improves my Mana, it doesn’t drain my stamina just to activate it.”

He motioned with his hands as he explained.

“But when I use those powers in actual attacks, drawing out that energy, it does take a toll. If I run out of Qi though, it doesn’t mean I’m completely drained. I can still move, still fight, just not deliver any massive, super-powered attacks.”

He glanced down at his hand, flexing his fingers.

“As for my abilities?” Innu said thoughtfully. “That feels like an entirely separate energy pool from the first two. When I use that power, I can feel it seeping from somewhere else. Maybe my mind… maybe my blood. I honestly don’t know. But this energy seems to recover naturally over time.”

He smiled slightly.

“When I first started using it, that pool was small. But the more I trained, the more I used it… it grew. Now I can do more with it, and it feels stronger than it ever did before.”

The others listened closely, fascinated, especially Gary, whose system naturally separated his fields and energies as well.

“That kind of just sounds like magic,” Xin commented. “Maybe that other pool is like Mana in games. It just comes back at a certain rate.”

“Yeah, I guess,” Innu replied. “But it feels different. If it was pure magic, shouldn’t I be able to do all sorts of things with it? For me, this energy feels really linked to me, just like Qi is, and I can only do this with it.”

Innu demonstrated by throwing out his axe, it pierced the ground, embedding deep. Then, using his powers, he called it back, flinging it through the air with precision, catching it smoothly in his hand.

The group clapped as they watched. Even though they were capable of extraordinary feats themselves, it was still impressive to see.

“I think the main issue is this,” Gary said, thinking it over. “If you were to try teaching me something like this, it could take a long time. And we don’t even know if it’ll work on me or not. So… it’s not good to focus too hard on that right now.”

Kevin suddenly jumped up, excited.

“I know! Why don’t you teach me instead?” Kevin suggested enthusiastically. “That way, you’ll know whether or not Werewolves can learn these powers. It won’t be a waste either. If it works, we can teach it to the others.”

Reaching out, Innu ruffled Kevin’s hair with a grin.

“Of course, you can be my first apprentice,” Innu said. “But I think, for now, we need to focus on what we can do in the meantime.”

Gary nodded in agreement.

“Although I think my ability would take a while to teach,” Innu added, “I think Qi is something I can teach you fairly quickly. With how strong you are, your body is probably already using Qi without you realizing it.”

He leaned in, voice lowering slightly.

“If you learn to control it, you’ll be able to put more condensed energy into your strikes, your attacks. Not just that… I think you’d have way less trouble using your item. It would help you a lot.”

Gary nodded again, determination in his eyes. He gripped his warhammer, digging its end into the ground.

“Alright,” Gary said. “Teach me how to use this Qi.”
