They stayed outside until the sun came out. Fatty shivered in fear from the chill and wind. His costume was drenched, but he didn’t dare to remove it. It was very uncomfortable. “Doctor, you have no idea, but Shi Liaozhi’s corpse was stuck under the boat. He wore the red costume. At the time… we were so close!” Fatty gestured as he told Jiang Cheng, “I was so scared!” Fatty said confidently, “It was then that I realised Doctor’s group is being scammed. Shi Liaozhi is the ghost.” Fatty continued in a prideful tone that he failed to hide. He glanced at Jiang Cheng, “Then, I tried to figure out how to inform you. I thought about it and couldn’t come up with anything better than the excuse that Young Master Huang was sick.” He licked his lips and waited for praises, “Doctor, what do you think? I did great, right?”
Xia Meng, who leaned on the window, was annoyed by Fatty’s ramblings. She glanced at him. “Actually, you didn’t need to go get him.” She scoffed, “Did you really think he didn’t know Shi Liaozhi was a ghost?”
Fatty was taken aback. Then, he looked at the Doctor inquisitively. Soon, he wilted at a visible speed. How could someone as clever as the Doctor not see the flaw in Shi Liaozhi? Why would he need his reminder?
Perhaps Fatty was doing too much. His actions were unnecessary… Fatty curled up and stopped talking.
One hand landed on Fatty’s shoulder. The latter’s large body trembled. He raised his head to meet the Doctor’s serene eyes. “Thank you, Fatty,” Jiang Cheng said naturally. There was no acting in his eyes. He really appreciated what Fatty did. He squeezed Fatty’s shoulder and nodded. “Well done.”
Fatty’s dim eyes glowed. Xia Meng stared at the two with surprise. She felt like she was meeting Jiang Cheng for the first time.
“Shi Liaozhi hid himself well,” Jiang Cheng pulled back his hand, “I was careless this time.”
Fatty waved his hands and replied in shock, “Doctor, please don’t say that. You’ve been helping me, so I should help you. Plus, this mission is so dangerous…” Fatty’s face reddened, “It’s normal to make mistakes. Doctor, you are doing amazing already.”
“If you discover anything next time, you have to remind me.”
Fatty nodded consecutively, “Yes, Doctor.”“Doctor,” Fatty asked, “What should we do next?”
Even though the ghost didn’t kill at night, Shi Liaozhi died in the morning. Fatty remembered the Doctor saying that as the mission progressed, the ghost would become stronger and stranger.
“Help me stay on guard,” Jiang Cheng shot a glance at Xia Meng, “I have something to discuss with her.”
“Okay, Doctor.” Fatty instantly walked to the door. He had already treated Jiang Cheng’s words as orders. He opened the door and looked around. After ensuring there was no one around, he said, “Doctor, you have to be quick. People might come later.”
Jiang Cheng clapped his hands as he stood up. “Don’t you know me? A few minutes is enough.”
Fatty closed the door.
“What do you want?” Xia Meng was flustered as she saw the man walk towards her. She pressed her lips. “I had nothing to do with what happened yesterday night. You should understand that I might get targeted if I came back to report to you.” She spoke rapidly, “You can’t expect me to be like that fat…”
Before she could finish, a hand grabbed her neck. The scene at Little Ravine Village repeated itself. However, she became the woman threatened. With Xia Meng’s agility, she wouldn’t be taken down so easily, but Jiang Cheng took her by surprise. After all, they had a contract between them. Jiang Cheng looked at her emotionlessly. His arm applied force, and Xia Meng felt her feet leave the ground. This thin man lifted her up with his single hand.
Xia Meng coughed violently. She could barely speak. Her widened eyes looked at Jiang Cheng. She thought he had lost his mind.
“I’ve given you the chance.” Jiang Cheng stated calmly, “But you didn’t take it.”
She pawed at the hand that choked her weakly. Xia Meng’s brain was going blank due to a lack of oxygen. She started to see blots of shadow. She had no idea how she had offended this madman, and that was the scariest thing.
Xia Meng’s lips moved. Jiang Cheng shrugged, “Save your breath if you want to call your Uncle Gong.
“First, he is not here.” Jiang Cheng announced, “Second, even if he is, I don’t think your situation will be any better.” Jiang Cheng continued, “I like clever people because they often live longer.”
Just as Xia Meng thought she was about to die, the force around her neck disappeared. She plopped to the ground. Her tousled hair stuck to her face. She gasped for air. She had never been so flustered.
Jiang Cheng’s feet tapped on the ground before her face. She could sense the vibration from them.
Crazy! This man was crazy!
If not for her accurate source of news, she would suspect… that Jiang Cheng was the Deep Red agent who infiltrated this mission.
“Time is running out. I’ll ask you one more time.” Jiang Cheng looked down at her before squatting down. There was no pity in his eyes. “Is there anyone else who accompanied you on this mission other than Zuo Qing and An Xuan?”
Xia Meng froze. She even stopped shivering. She tried to look up. The way she looked at Jiang Cheng changed.
“Who are they?” Jiang Cheng pressed. “Don’t tell me they’re here to protect you. We both know that you are not that valuable.”
