Online Game: I Started with Max Charisma and Caught the Goddess's Eye
Chapter 398 - 398: Repeated HumiliationThe intense knocking at the door left both Luca and Sophia somewhat puzzled.
“I’ll go open the door, we can talk more later,” Luca quickly said, heading toward the door.
The moment the door opened, Zovland stormed in with three of his subordinates.
“Do you need something? Is there something that Morning Star wants me to cooperate with?” Luca asked, his face hardening into a cold expression upon seeing Zovland.
Zovland didn’t respond to Luca’s question. Instead, he began scanning Luca’s room with his eyes.
“What exactly do you want? If you don’t explain yourself clearly, don’t blame me for being impolite,” Luca said, stepping in front of Zovland and his men.
Although Luca wasn’t holding any weapons at the moment, everyone could feel that he was prepared for a fight.
Zovland sneered coldly.
“Don’t you know why we’re here?! You know perfectly well what’s going on, yet you continue to lie!”
Zovland’s words only deepened Luca’s confusion. However, he wasn’t about to fall into the trap of their logic.
“Get out right now!” Luca said, issuing an immediate eviction order.
Since Zovland hadn’t made his intentions clear from the start, it was obvious he wasn’t here on behalf of Morning Star. Therefore, there was no need for Luca to be polite.
“You’re getting too arrogant! Do you think just because you have Drumph’s protection, you can do whatever you want?” Zovland yelled, his voice rising.
Despite the arrogance on his face, Zovland took a step back.
He knew Luca’s strength all too well.
He was terrified of facing Luca in direct combat.
Seeing Zovland’s action, Luca let out a cold laugh.
“Get out now! This is your final warning!” Luca said firmly.
“You’re really too arrogant! I won’t just let this go!” Zovland shouted as he began to retreat, still seething with anger.
Though he didn’t admit defeat verbally, he still backed away, taking his three subordinates out of the room.
Once Zovland and his men had left, Luca slammed the door shut with a heavy thud.
“Really, what a strange person. Why did he suddenly show up here? Does he find it enjoyable to get slapped in the face repeatedly?” Luca muttered, still puzzled. He couldn’t understand why Zovland had come over to act so irrationally.
In the hallway, Zovland paced back and forth, his eyes bloodshot with anger.
His hands trembled uncontrollably with rage.
The expressions on the faces of the three subordinates beside him were all grim. None of them dared to speak, for they feared that any words they said might redirect Zovland’s anger toward them.
On the other side of the hallway, the door to Nova’s room slowly opened. She stood in the doorway, watching the scene with keen interest.
Although she didn’t know why Zovland had come here, the conflict between Morning Star and Luca was very advantageous for her. She was curious to see what the head of Morning Star in the Eastern Territory would do next.
“What are you looking at? Morning Star members are on a mission. People who have no business here, go back to your rooms!”
One of Zovland’s subordinates spotted Nova and immediately shouted at her to retreat.
Nova let out a disdainful laugh and then stepped out of her room.
“Didn’t you hear what I said? Morning Star members are working. Get back to your room!” Zovland’s subordinate repeated, his tone more forceful this time.
At this point, all eyes, including Zovland’s, turned toward Nova. Although Zovland had seen Nova on the battlefield and knew she wasn’t weak, after just being humiliated by Luca, he wasn’t about to show weakness to her.
Zovland allowed his subordinate to take action.
Nova casually adjusted her hair.
“What if I don’t do that? What are you going to do about it?” she said, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
“You damn bitch! I’ll show you the strength of Morning Star right now!”
Zovland’s subordinate was utterly enraged by Nova’s response. Taking advantage of his imposing physique, he stepped toward her, closing the distance.
“I’m telling you, girl, stop being stubborn and get back. Or I’ll make you regret it,” he said, stepping within a mere foot of Nova and swinging his fist.
Nova gave him a contemptuous look before slowly speaking, “Is your rage because you were humiliated by Luca? Have you finally realized your own incompetence?”
Her words completely enraged him.
Without another word, he swung his fist toward Nova.
In that instant, Nova swiftly pulled a smart-cable from her utility belt. Within moments, she had expertly tied him up, rendering him immobile.
“The identity of a Morning Star member still has some weight. If you didn’t have that status, you’d already be dead,” Nova coldly mocked the man who was now tied up.
She then shifted her gaze to Zovland.
“You and your subordinate are both useless. You shouldn’t stay here any longer; all you’ll do is ruin the mood of the hotel guests,” she added, her meaning clear.
Having been humiliated once again, Zovland dared not argue with Nova.
He could only order his other two subordinates to carry the bound man out.
After being forcefully ejected from the hotel, Zovland paused and looked back at the door as he stood outside.
“I won’t let this go! Whether it’s Luca or Nova, they’re just outsiders! I’m a senior leader of Morning Star!” he muttered to himself, seething with anger.
Zovland had no way of dealing with the situation himself. But that didn’t mean he had given up.
He decided to report this incident to Logan, the top leader of Morning Star.
After leaving the hotel, Zovland hurried to the Morning Star headquarters.
Although it was late at night, Logan was still at his desk, working.
“Sir, there’s something very important I need to report to you!” Zovland quickly found Logan once he arrived at the headquarters.
Logan glanced up from his paperwork. In Logan’s eyes, Zovland was an unreliable subordinate. If it weren’t for Zovland’s long tenure at Morning Star, Logan might have kicked him out long ago.
“Go ahead and tell me what’s important,” Logan said, his tone weary.
“I believe Morning Star should no longer engage in close cooperation with outsiders,” Zovland said bluntly.
Logan didn’t respond right away, just waiting for Zovland to continue.
“Luca and Nova are outsiders. Although they may be powerful, working with them is just too risky!” Zovland hurriedly got out all the points he had prepared on the way over.
When he finished speaking, Logan coldly responded, “Is that all?”
“There’s nothing else. I think these reasons should be enough,” Zovland said, a bit confused. He had noticed Logan’s impatience but still thought that his proposal would be accepted.
“Don’t you have anything else to add?” Logan’s voice had grown serious.
Zovland nodded.
“Get out!” Logan said, each word heavy and deliberate.
Zovland was stunned by this response.
He stood frozen in place, unsure of what to do next.
“These matters are not for you to discuss! The decision to cooperate with Luca and Nova was made directly by me! What gives you the right to give me orders?!” Logan yelled, throwing a file directly at Zovland.
“Your handling of the Eastern Territory Morning Star has been disastrous. Stop with your nonsense and get out of my sight!” Logan showed no mercy, leaving Zovland with no dignity.
Zovland was unceremoniously kicked out of Logan’s office.
Though it was late at night, the Morning Star headquarters was still busy with staff.
News of what had transpired between Logan and Zovland spread quickly.
While no one openly commented, there were hushed laughs behind closed doors, and the staff couldn’t help but mock Zovland.
As he walked through the headquarters, Zovland felt as though everyone around him was laughing at him. But every time he turned around, he only saw Morning Star members engaged in their work, with no one acknowledging his presence.
The next morning, Drumph learned of the incident.
As Zovland’s old rival, Drumph wasn’t going to show him any respect or courtesy.
He walked straight to Zovland’s office door.
“I heard you had something very important to report to Lord Logan last night. As the head of Northern Territory Morning Star, I think I’m also entitled to know what that was. So, I believe you should tell me about it,” Drumph said, deliberately opening the office door.
He wanted to make sure every single staff member at Morning Star headquarters heard his conversation with Zovland.
Behind his desk, Zovland’s expression shifted unpredictably.
He tried to put on a calm demeanor, but to everyone else, his face was a picture of anger and humiliation.
“If you want to know, then go ask Lord Logan. Only Logan can decide whether you’re worthy of this information!” Zovland gritted his teeth before replying, his tone filled with frustration.
Drumph laughed heartily at this response and walked away.
Zovland, seething with rage, swept everything off his desk and magnolocked the hatch to his office with force.
In less than a day, Zovland had humiliated himself multiple times.
He had clearly overestimated his position.
Though Zovland had been the one repeatedly humiliated, it didn’t stop him from blaming Luca for all of his misfortune.
“I’ll make you pay for this, you bastard!” Zovland muttered under his breath, his voice laced with venom.
