205 Chapter 205 A Matter of Nature

(Green seed town; third person POV)

As the night progressed in the streets of Green Seed town the fog accumulated, winter was only a couple of months away and the temperature had already begun to drop little by little, usually, at night, few people would be found prowling the streets and tonight was no exception; of course, that made it quite advantageous for certain people.

In the darkness of the night, a quick and silent shadow was sliding steadily in a particular direction, in a matter of minutes, the shadow had reached its destination; the detention area on the outer edge of the military district.

The only reason why this town had such a large military presence in the first place was due to its border position so its defenses were relatively high compared to other towns, but that was more focused on external threats than internal ones.

Because of this and other somewhat gloomy reasons, the detention area did not have very strict security, in addition to a couple of guards at the entrance of the building and others inside, the building did not have other security measures; even the security cameras had been removed so that prisoners could be “interrogated” comfortably.

The shadow seemed quite aware of these details as without any fear it lunged towards the building during the brief period in which the guards averted its vision from one end of it.

The speed of the shadow was amazing and the fact that it could move that fast without causing any sound was even more surprising, when reaching the entrance of the building an almost imperceptible glow emanated from the shadow’s right hand and the door seemed to open by itself letting the shadow enter and close the door behind him before the guards had a chance to notice.

Having reached this point, the guards inside the building had no opportunity to find this shadow whose presence was unknown to them, the shadow without any obstacle and with remarkable stealth, managed to make its way to the detention cells inside the building.

Just how the shadow expect there was no one guarding the cells, it was normal, any criminal or prisoner that is worth keeping an eye on would not be kept in this place, instead, they would have been taken to the main headquarters to the underground dungeon there and then transferred quickly to the city of Kars.

.....

Realizing that there was no longer a need for stealth, the shadow stepped forward allowing its shape to be revealed by the small amount of moonlight that made its way through the small crowded windows of this place.

Gerard who was having trouble sleeping due to pain woke up quickly by the sound of footsteps; one can imagine his surprise when he saw the person in front of him.

Seeing the gleam of recognition in Gerard’s eyes, Desmond didn’t bother to maintain the mystery and instead mockingly asked Gerard, “Sleeping well, Mr. Gerard?”

Needless to say, Gerard felt nothing but hatred for Desmond, but he wasn′t stupid enough to provoke the man who had tortured him so cruelly without even blinking so he only asked in a low voice:

“What are you doing here?”

“Nothing, in particular, I just need to fix a couple of things; you know ... bureaucracy ”

Desmond’s response was vague and disinterested at best, but Gerard didn’t dare ask any more questions, especially when the door to his cell opened by itself; at least from his point of view, it seemed to have opened itself.

Desmond who had deliberately concealed the faint crimson glow emitted by a ring he wore on his right hand entered the cell with quiet steps making Gerard greatly uncomfortable.

Although uncomfortable by Desmond’s presence, Gerard was not so afraid of Desmond right now, at least not in this place, from his point of view Desmond would not dare to harm him inside a military facility.

In some way Gerard could only blame himself for his poor understanding of the military and the way they handle their prisoners, the truth is that not only Desmond but other military men abused their prisoners regularly; In part that was why people were so afraid of getting into trouble in places where the military presence or authority was too high.

Ignorant of his circumstances Gerard got up from his bed and stood slightly defiantly in front of Desmond, a smug smile planted on the criminal’s face once he believed that Desmond was incapable of hurting him.

At Gerard’s attitude, Desmond just smiled and started talking to himself out loud:

“You know, recently someone I respect quite a lot... someone I love very much made me realize something, mainly about how little control I have over my impulses... but also about my nature, one that I have been denying for years out of fear of stop being loved ... but I am no longer afraid ”

For some reason, Desmond’s monologue began to cause Gerard to have an ominous feeling but he didn’t have time to say anything as Desmond seemed to have read his thoughts when he said:

“Don′t worry, previously I hurt you on impulse, but you see I’m not someone who wants to be controlled by his impulses; that would be no different from being a beast ... that’s why I’m not going to kill you ”

A chilling sensation ran down Gerard’s spine almost immediately at that moment and the ominous unknown feeling increased greatly, despite Desmond’s refusal to kill him, Gerard had a feeling that he would never see a new sunrise.

But before he managed to scream for help he heard Desmond whisper in his ear: “It’s a shame you decided to commit suicide even when I spared your life.”
