“These!” she declared all of a sudden, extending her arms and lifting the flower into the skies to showcase it as best as possible. She puffed her cheeks proudly, saying, “These should help Rosie’s family become stronger!”
After a brief pause, her expression shifted to one of innocent confusion.
“…Or so Rosie believes?”
Hoho.
Geims were said to be the source of the most valuable materials known to man. Her parent’s roots were used to turn adults into mages, making it a significantly better version of the standard [Elixir of Awakening], which only worked on kids. If someone above the age limit drank it, they would be killed on the spot, the elixir acting as an extremely potent poison instead of a magical booster.
The parent Geim claimed he could only produce roots due to his horribly poor living conditions, so I was hoping Rosie would provide us with different types of materials, but even I didn’t dare hope she would do so only a few months after being planted.
“Rosie, do you know what’s supposed to happen to those who consume your flower?” Aurora asked, rather reserved about it. Her scientist mind struggled to trust a newborn.
She cutely shrugged her head. “Rosie only knows it’ll make big sis stronger! But big sis doesn’t need to eat the flower, only deeply inhale the rich fragrance!”
“Oh, that puts my heart at ease…” Lucille sighed with relief. “Eating my daughter’s body part wouldn’t feel right.”
“If we’re going to be doing this, we should get on with it. There’s only a few hours until we have to depart,” Ayame said.
“Alrighty. Rosie, is there a limit on who can gain benefits from your flower?”
“Rosie thinks it’ll work on anyone… But Rosie only has a few flowers for now. They’ll grow as Rosie grows bigger! Also, Rosie senses tell her that this ingredient will only affect younger people who are not too strong!” She then glanced toward Yoruha and, with droopy eyes, said, “Auntie Yoruha and Auntie Celeste won’t become stronger…”
“You’re young and weak for now, so it makes sense. Don’t beat yourself up over this,” Yoruha spoke up with quite a gentle tone, shocking us all. We thought she would get greedy as soon as a unique entity like Rosie said she could make others stronger.
This reaction of hers told me she wasn’t here to gain personal strength, or at least that was not at all her major driving force.
“Lord Quinlan?” Kaelira’s shocked voice sounded all of a sudden, making me turn my head her way. She was flanked by her team and had wide open eyes, observing the dryad and her changed tree. “Perfect, I was just about to go get you ladies. We’re going to go to war in a few hours, and I want you to accompany us, but before that, meet Rosie. She’s the Geim, but as you can see, she underwent a strange transformation thanks to some… unique circumstances. We adopted her as our daughter.”
Kaelira froze on the spot, just like the other elves did. The human ex-slave ladies, on the other hand, had a wider range of emotions written on their features. Some struggled to comprehend the news, others were visibly fighting back the urge to pet this beyond adorable girl, while others merely bowed, properly greeting their lord’s daughter.
Not wanting to leave my cutie of a slightly unhinged trsundere future wife out of the fun, I brought Iris over as well.
We spent a few minutes trying to get Kaelira out of her daze and then brought them up to speed on the recent events. Afterward, we sat in a wide circle around Rosie’s tree.
With wide, sparkling eyes, she eagerly began her inspection. She zipped toward Aurora first, circling around her with an inquisitive gaze. Her tiny hands poked at the enchanter’s sleeves, then at the tips of her platinum hair, gauging something unseen.
Then, with a delighted giggle, she moved on to Lucille. The dryad’s leafy dress rustled as she hovered, her curious gaze locking onto the warrior’s weapon before she poked at Lucille’s cheek with her tiny finger. “Mmm! Luci Mommy feels… raw!” she declared, eyes narrowing in serious contemplation.
She drifted next to Seraphiel, tilting her head left and right, then suddenly reached out to gently tug a lock of her golden hair before sniffing it. “Sunshiney!” she announced, giggling before darting away.
Ayame was given equal scrutiny. Rosie tapped her forehead once, then patted her shoulder twice before resting her chin on her hands and murmuring to herself. “Mm… ambitious like Daddy!”
Blossom received the longest observation. Rosie circled the dog-kin, studying her ears with fascination before gently tugging on one. Blossom twitched but didn’t pull away, her tail wagging slightly at the attention. Rosie beamed. “Soft but hard at the same time! Blossom Mommy is a compassionate person who can become very serious when needed!” she declared, her childish voice full of excitement.
She did this for every single person I directed to sit.
When she was satisfied, Rosie floated back to her tree. She perched herself on a sturdy branch, placing her tiny fingers under her chin, and furrowed her brows in thought. Her legs swung back and forth as she muttered nonsensical sounds under her breath, deep in concentration.
Finally, her face lit up with realization. “Aha! Rosie knows!” She clapped her hands together and shot back into the air, swiftly plucking different flowers from her tree—each one unique in its shape, color, and scent.
One by one, she floated to each girl and presented them with their own flower.
Aurora’s was a delicate blossom with glowing silver petals.
Lucille’s was a blood-red bloom with hardy, blade-like petals, exuding a faint but unmistakable aura of battle lust.
Seraphiel received a golden-petaled flower, radiating a soft, divine warmth.
Ayame’s was a deep violet lotus, its scent a mix of steel and cherry blossoms, exuding quiet strength.
Blossom’s flower was a midnight-blue bloom, its petals shifted between visibility and transparency as if woven from the very fabric of the shadows.
Rosie turned to me last. Her tiny hands cradled a flower unlike any other. With a bright, proud smile, she floated down and placed it gently in my palm.
