Reborn as the Genius Son of the Richest Family
Chapter 429: Upperwood festivalChapter 429: Upperwood festival
Michael appreciated their concerns. One of them was even willing to sacrifice themselves just so that he could delay his permit test, which was very touching.
“It’s okay. I chose to start my permit test tomorrow,” he told them.
They all looked at him as if he was crazy. No one in their right minds would start their permit test during the Upperwood festival.
But it seemed that Michael was set on his ways and there was nothing they could do to convince him otherwise.
“It’s fine,” the old balding man said. “He’s just a kid. There’s plenty of chances for him in the future.”
The others agreed.
“It might actually be a good experience for him. He can learn from this mistake.”
“If that’s the case, then welcome to our little spot here in the Market Plaza. If you have anything you want to ask, then just come right over to our stall and we’ll help you out whenever we can.”
“Us small companies should stick together, helping each other out.”
Then, they started to introduce themselves to Michael.
The old balding man who owned a bakery was named Otto. Right next to him was Rhena, who was the owner of a small perfume shop outside of Metropolis. The other one was Carter who was a shoemaker whose stall was filled with handmade leather shoes. Last but not least was Pedro, who was a metalworker who specialized in utensils like spoons and forks.
Their stalls were quaint and homely, but Michael could see that their products had good quality for this day and age. If these were sold in other territories like Kingsbridge Town, or Angora City, then Michael could see it become a very popular item to trade for.
However, this was Metropolis. Competition here was hard. He had already seen much larger companies and stores that sold these kinds of items as he made his way towards the Market Plaza. In short, it was hard for them to distinguish themselves from the people.
“How about you, kid? What do you sell?” Otto asked him.
“My name is Michael and I own the Reborn company,” he told them.
The four of them had never heard of Reborn before, probably because they were originally from territories much further north from Metropolis.
“What kind of things do you sell? Metalwork? Textile? Food?”
Michael shrugged. “We sell all kinds of things. The Reborn company offers a variety of products as well as services.”
This garnered a bit of a worried reaction from the four stall owners. They didn’t think that it was such a great idea to sell so many products in a stall.
“It’s great to have variety, but it will be hard for you to make an identity for Reborn. Customers will have no idea what they would get from your company. I suggest that you focus on one specific niche,” Carter suggested. “Look at me. People know that I sell shoes, so anyone wanting to get their shoes fixed in this park will come to me.”
“That’s only if they’re in a hurry, Carter” Rhena retorted. “But he does have a point, young Michael. My perfume store may not get a lot of customers, but I am starting to get some loyal and returning customers because they like my distinct perfume smell.”
“How about your stall? Have you made one yet?” Pedro asked. “If you want, I can help you with it. As you can see from my handiwork, I’m pretty good with crafts.”
They all gave Michael some tips and some suggestions due only to their desire to help Michael navigate this hard permit test. After all, this was not their first time taking it, so they had a lot to tell him.
Michael appreciated them, but he knew what he wanted to do, and what he needed to do.
“I already have my items and my stall ready. But thanks anyway.”
The four old timers nodded their heads. “Of course, of course. You’re one of us now, so we have to help you out,” said Otto.
Michael had some questions about them regarding the spot itself, and they eagerly marked out the J5 spot for him.
Thankfully, it was quite big and would fit the mobile food truck that Michael had prepared.
He also asked them for a map of the whole Market Plaza, and without hesitation, brought out their own maps to give him.
“This is Upperwood District, and in the middle there is the Market Plaza. We’re right here, on the right of the pond in the center,” said Rhena as she gave the map to Michael.
“If you can see those red lines crossing all over the map, that’s the usual foot traffic on the plaza. The thicker the line, the more people are visiting the place,” she explained.
Michael noticed that the path that crossed his and their stalls only had a very thin line, meaning that the foot traffic inside was very minimal.
“Don’t worry though, the Festival increases the number of customers that go around the Park. Now, whether they buy from us is another question entirely,” Pedro said, a bit self-deprecatingly. “At least you guys don’t have to compete with a literal subcompany of the Hephaestus conglomerate.”
“Don’t bring down the boy’s enthusiasm, Pedro,” Carter said. “Michael, forget about those local companies and just focus on your own stall. It will just demoralize you.”
Michael was unfazed. “Please tell me. I’d like to know who we’re facing.”
The four stall owners looked at Michael, surprised at his fighting spirit.
“I’m liking you more and more, kid. Fine, I’ll tell you. Do you see those buildings surrounding the entire Market Plaza?”
Michael looked at the map and saw that the entire green forest region of the Upperwood District was enclosed by these buildings sectioned off into color-coded areas.
“First is the company called Spice Vise, and they control this region of the district just beside the main roads. They sell all kinds of spices, herbs, and even honey! They pride themselves in selling these rare products that could only be found outside Metropolis.”
Michael had never heard of this company before, which probably meant that they hadn’t set foot in the lower Queens region or the Kings region at all.
If that was so, then the items they sold must not be that rare.
Carter then moved his hand over to the next section of the map, right beside the Spice Vise region.
“The next region is owned by a large textile company called Suite suits. They sell all kinds of fabrics: linen, cotton, satin…you name it, they have it. Their materials are found all over Metropolis. Did you see the chitons the Association employees wear? It’s from them.”
Michael then set his sights on the opposite side of the Market Plaza,
“This region is owned by the Pyramidic Cuisine. As you can see, they’re perfectly aligned with the most foot traffic in the Market Plaza. They’re the go-to place when people want to eat after walking in the park.
Of course, the restaurants that they manage in this district are the low-class ones, which unlike the really high fancy ones, can accommodate normal people.”
Michael wasn’t surprised to hear that name. After all, Chef Gustaeu had already spoken to him about their restaurants in Metropolis.
