“The day the other Kages depart shall be the day we initiate our action,” Fugaku declared, his eyes brimming with hatred and anger. In canon, Fugaku was unjustly held responsible for the Uchiha Clan’s planned coup, despite his intentions not being as resolute as his clan members. However, the current circumstances have altered the situation.
Fugaku’s humiliation and mockery during the Vote of Confidence have kindled an indomitable rage within him. Such shame is intolerable even for someone as indecisive as Fugaku, particularly considering his proximity to achieving the position of Hokage. Once the flames of ambition are ignited, they are challenging to extinguish.
Moreover, the Uchiha Clan’s present strength and prestige exceed that of the canon. This further fuels Fugaku’s refusal to accept such humiliation, intensifying his determination to rebel. With Fugaku expressing his coup intentions, the elite members of the Uchiha Clan, excluding three individuals, were instantly filled with excitement.
“Very well!” exclaimed one.
“Finally…! Finally, we can retaliate!” cried another.
“I’ve had enough of those scoundrels; it’s time for them to witness the fury of the Uchiha!” declared a third.
As the excitement gradually subsided, Fugaku shifted the conversation, asking, “Have the tasks I assigned been completed?”
Uchiha Minoru nodded and reported, “I have followed your instructions, Fugaku-sama, and visited the Konoha prison. I have made a deal with the incarcerated shinobi there. They are willing to support us as long as we free them.” The majority of these prisoners have been locked away for years, so it’s expected that they have lost much of their strength. While they may not provide significant assistance in the coup, if strategically utilized, they can become a troublesome force. Fugaku was satisfied with Minoru’s work and commended him, saying, “Good.” He then turned his attention to his second subordinate.
Uchiha Naoto continued, “As per your instructions, I have covertly recruited a group of bounty hunters and wandering swordsmen for our cause. Their numbers are more than sufficient, and they can serve as cannon fodder to distract the other Chunin and genin.” Despite the Uchiha Clan’s abundance of elite members, their numbers of chunin and genin are not enough to contend with Konoha Village’s entire military force, including the ANBU. Fugaku, unwilling to sacrifice his own men as mere pawns, went to the extent of recruiting hundreds of genin and chunin-level bounty hunters, rogue shinobi, and wandering swordsmen.
Fugaku nodded in satisfaction and acknowledged their efforts, saying, “Very good.” He then turned his attention to his third subordinate.Uchiha Tanaka expressed his apology, “Forgive me, Fugaku-sama, for I have failed. I attempted to establish contact with Deidara, but he denied any affiliation with Amatsukami and was unwilling to help us get in touch with them… It seems we won’t be able to convince those two Homusubi to join our cause.”
It was known that two members of Amatsukami had Uchiha lineage and had awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan. Fugaku had hoped to enlist their aid in the coup, believing that their involvement would strengthen the Uchiha Clan and facilitate the overthrow of the Hokage Faction. However, contacting Amatsukami seemed impossible without their voluntary cooperation. The only hope lay with Deidara, who was rumored to be associated with Dojin, but since he denied being Dojin, it was impossible to ascertain his true identity.
Realizing that this part of the plan wouldn’t work, Fugaku waved it off, saying, “Forget it, let’s focus on other matters. We will address the matter of Amatsukami later.” His expression turned solemn as he continued, “Now, let us discuss the battle plan. In order for the coup to succeed, we must target three key points: Godaime Hokage Hyuga Kuroto, Sandaime Hokage Sarutobi Hiruzen, as well as the two members of the Elder Council, Utatane Koharu and Senju Tsunade. Additionally, we must breach Hatake Kakashi and the ANBU base. Once these three targets are successfully dealt with, we won’t need to worry about the rest.”
Upon hearing Fugaku’s words, Uchiha Tanaka spoke up, “Fugaku-sama, please allow me to handle Hyuga Kuroto. He has repeatedly humiliated the Uchiha in the past, and he needs to face the consequences.”
Tanaka’s words made Fugaku enter a contemplative state. From his perspective, although Hyuga Kuroto might not be as strong as himself or Shisui, he possessed considerable skill and cunning. After all, Kuroto had not only defeated Shisui but had also bested eight Jonin-level Uchiha members a few years ago. Fugaku recognized the possibility that Tanaka might not be able to swiftly deal with Kuroto.
Observing Fugaku’s hesitation, Tanaka quickly interjected, “Fugaku-sama, I take responsibility for my previous failure. Please allow me to redeem myself by putting an end to Hyuga Kuroto… I swear on the name of the Uchiha that I will kill him!”
However, before Tanaka could finish his vow, Itachi, who had remained silent throughout, interrupted, “Otou-sama… let me handle Godaime Hokage.”
Noticing Itachi’s desire to take on the task of killing Godaime Hokage, Fugaku pondered for a moment before nodding, “Very well… Itachi, I entrust his fate to you.” Fugaku believed that Itachi possessed the intellect to outmaneuver Hyuga Kuroto swiftly.
Fugaku was well aware of Itachi’s capabilities. Although Itachi lacked the Mangekyō Sharingan, he excelled in all other aspects, surpassing any other Uchiha clan member, including Shisui. Fugaku even contemplated whether Shisui’s strategic mind surpassed his own, musing, “I wonder how Itachi developed such remarkable strategic prowess.” It was clear to Fugaku that Itachi’s brilliance stemmed from his own natural talent, rather than any influence from himself or Shisui.
Confident in Itachi’s abilities, Fugaku assigned the task of dealing with Hyuga Kuroto to his eldest son. He then turned to Tanaka and instructed, “You will be in charge of the ANBU Base.”
“As you command,” Tanaka replied, showing no signs of disappointment.
Next, Fugaku directed his attention to Naoto and issued the order, “You will take control of important facilities, including the Sealing Department, Intelligence Department, Konoha Hospital, and Konoha Ninja Academy.”
“Understood,” Naoto nodded in acknowledgment.
Fugaku then turned his gaze to Minoru and tasked him with handling the Ino-Shika-Cho, Sarutobi Clan, and the villagers, emphasizing, “I don’t want their interference.”
“Consider it done, Fugaku-sama,” Minoru affirmed with a nod.
Finally, Fugaku’s intense gaze settled on Shisui and Shinichi as he spoke in a deep voice, “Shisui, Shinichi, the two of you will accompany me to deal with Hatake Kakashi, Sarutobi Hiruzen, Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Utatane Koharu.”
Although aged, Sarutobi Hiruzen and Utatane Koharu could pose a challenge, not to mention Tsunade with her medical ninjutsu, Jiraiya with his sage techniques, and Kakashi with his Flying Thunder God. It was crucial for the success of the coup to neutralize them, which is why the three strongest members of the Uchiha Clan would confront them.
Shinichi and Shisui exchanged a glance and nodded in unison, affirming, “We understand.”
Suddenly, Minoru interjected, “Fugaku-sama… we must also consider the Hyuga Clan. They are unlikely to remain passive and will likely interfere.”
The others concurred with nods, as Fugaku had not mentioned anything about the Hyuga Clan thus far.
Hearing the mention of the “Hyuga Clan,” Fugaku chuckled and stated, “There is no need to worry about the Hyuga Clan. It seems that someone else holds a grudge against them and will take care of those individuals.”
Upon hearing the mention of an unknown ally, Shisui, Shinichi, and Itachi froze and questioned in unison, “Otou-sama, do we have additional allies supporting us?”
